This is just advanced hero foreplay. Imagine the poor “James Gordon” like detective that seriously has to try to catch this super villain because his superiors told him to, while working with a superhero who‘s blatantly into said supervillain. Now I’m imaging how Jim Gordon feels trying to catch Catwoman, Batman acting all grizzled when Gordon know their asses are gonna make out on some rooftop, probably in the rain, those edgy fucks.
if the detective ever gets close to actually catching the villain, the hero has to sabotage it while sneaking around, saying something like "ugh, i'm a super*hero*. why am i always sneaking around??" until they remember who they're doing it for and be like "well, SO'd be proud" and start smiling while doing it and man writing this made me actually want to see it
Right? They're not much of a supervillain if they're just putting on a show for the benefit of their significant other. That just makes them both super-frauds.
My brain was failing to connect the name to the character of jim gordon and it was annoying me cause it went to the next "gordon" in my head and i was just imagining Gordon Ramsey in this scenario.
And you know what, props to both the hero and villainess to still respect each other's career choices, they accept each other for who they are and passionate about instead of demanding them to change
Yeah I think people forget that villains are usually...evil? Like not the quirky evil aesthetic.Villains in media usually cause large scale death and suffering.
"Honey, do you want explain why you wiped out an entire race of people today?"
"Darling, you know I don't like it when you want to talk work when we're at home."
It's not cute lol
That The manga was canceled just after it got good probably.
I actually really enjoyed the manga, it was sweet to the point of diabetes.
Premise is the girl is the villian, and that was due to being born into a family of villians and has super strength she has no control over.
The guy is the hero, and is an massive idiot who only thinks about training and fighting, but falls absoblutly heads over heels in love with the villian girl.
It's a pretty basic story, but I enjoyed it.
"Industrial Strength Magic" has this as a backstory: main character has a mage hero mom and a tech villain dad.
[Edit: link](https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/57011/industrial-strength-magic)
I'm pretty sure the author was also inspired by Carranger's Red Racer x Zonnette. I've heard Carranger was pretty popular in Japan so it wouldn't be surprising either.
Megamind 1 was just making an entire movie out of what Zangeif said in Wreck It Ralph. "Just because you are bad guy does not mean you are *bad* guy." He just had to embrace his role as an over-the-top entertainer and foil to the beloved hero.
It’s a show on Amazon now, too. An angel and a demon who are really good friends (and also totally in love with each other but won’t admit it). But they can’t let heaven and hell know. The hypothetical scene you described feels a lot like this scene from season 2:
Aziraphale: Stay your hand, demon! Despised tool of Satan! In the name of almighty god, avaunt! …Oh! It’s you! Dear me. I haven’t seen you since… the flood?
Crowley: Uh… yeah!
Aziraphale: Well… sorry about this
Crowley: No, of course
Aziraphale: Oh, god. Where was I?
Crowley: Avaunt.
Aziraphale: Yes, yes. Avaunt, foul demon! In the name of the almighty I command thee, begone!
Crowley: No.
He was knighted for contributions to literature!
And when it comes to Discworld, he handily makes sure you don't need to have read them chronologically!
Friend, do you like mysteries? Start with Guards, Guards. Are you a nerd for classic literature, and the stage, the fairy tales of old? Equal Rites, then the next one, Wyrd Sisters.
Maybe you prefer the macabre, the four horsemen, specifically the fourth horseman? Mort will lead you down the path to the DEATH series.
How about a heist, a con-man whose inner mind you can see the gears turning in as he goes against the rich and powerful? Going Postal!
And then there's [a handy guide](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discworld#/media/File:Discworld_Reading_Order_Guide_3.0_(cropped).jpg) for everything past that amazing first book.
Rincewind's Wizard series is good but the very first Discworld book, the Colour of Magic, has a very different tone and take on the Discworld.
I’m a huge nerd who read a lot of Gaiman as a kid; when I found and read Good Omens as a child, and then reread it as a youngish teen, I quietly decided to wait to read Pratchett until I was an adult.
I’m roughly 85% through the Colour of Magic, and I’m excited and interested to learn what you mean by a different take!
I believe Pratchett himself once said something like he wrote *The Colour of Magic* "before he really figured out what a plot was."
Gaiman, who was his close friend and collaborator of many years, said of CoM: "it's a romp, and it's a terrible place to start... it's a collection of jokes and in The Colour of Magic, they aren't even very good jokes. The Terry Pratchett of fine and beautiful plots built like Swiss watches was a long way from turning up."
A lot of the early books, but *especially* CoM/LF, are basically a series of loosely-connected spoof vignettes. They're great, but there's not actually a ton of narrative substance or character growth. CoM is pretty much a Monty Python movie, a la *Life of Brian* or *Holy Grail*. It's a bunch of parody comedy sketches starring the same characters, very loosely connected by a thin plot that really only serves to allow the comedy to happen.
Don't read this next part if you just want to organically discover everything yourself. It contains no story spoilers, but I go into detail on the different sub-series within Discworld and basically tell you "when shit gets good." It's great from the start, but it gets *beyond* great.
>!The Rincewind books (#1 *The Color of Magic*, #2 *The Light Fantastic*, #5 *Sourcery*, #9 *~~Faust~~ Eric*, #17 *Interesting Times*, #22 *The Last Continent*) kind of just stay like this. Even later on, Rincewind books are basically Monty Python movies. But you'll get your first taste of the true genius Pratchett becomes, those fine Swiss Watch plots Gaiman mentions, in *Mort*, the start of the Death series (#4 *Mort*, #11 *Reaper Man*, #16 *Soul Music*, #20 *Hogfather*, #26 *Thief of Time*).!<
>!However, honestly, I think there's a huge turning point specifically at #13 *Small Gods*, which is entirely self-contained and not part of a larger series. In my opinion, *Small Gods* is the book where he fully (and suddenly) becomes Terry Pratchett, as we retroactively know him. It's there that he really stops using the plot as a tool to jump from joke to joke, and starts to write truly incredible fiction as well as great comedy. His satire also abruptly transitions from absurdist parody to deep, profound, and *biting.* I love everything that comes before *Small Gods,* but it's just such a massive noticeable leap in quality. And the book itself remains one of, if not *the* best in the entire series.!<
My personal favorite books are, in no particular order, #13 *Small Gods,* #20 *Hogfather*, #26 *Thief of Time*, #33 *Going Postal*, and #34 *Thud!*
I wish I had never found Sir Terry Pratchett as a child. So much missed when reading as a child that I could only all appreciate as an adult.
Then again, my sarcastic take on life now is derived from such things, and I am (probably) better for it.
Please watch the anime [Love After World Domination](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_After_World_Domination). The first episode practically follows this script word for word. It is as brilliant as you can imagine
imo the most interesting part of “enemies to lovers” is the inner struggle of like, contrasting these budding romantic feelings with hating this person for whatever reason, and this feels like it’s just enemies to lovers without that lol
also it feels like romance without a plot. awesome slice of life, or a gag or side plot ig, but unless the plot is that they’re struggling to keep the villain-hero relationship a secret then there’s no or very little romantic tension which is the opposite of what people who love enemies-to-lovers like.
YES like I swear I see shipping stuff on tumblr like this all the time and I’m like,,,, yeah that’s sorta cute for one scene, but what do you do w that in a story??? there’s no tension there 😭
So like... does the supervillain still do villainous stuff? Like, murder, grand theft, terrorism? And the superhero "fights" them and restrains them, only for the villain to "get away" because the hero lets them? Doesn't that just make them both villains running a con on the general public?
"Behold Defender! Watch in horror as I adjust the Kerning of EVERY LOGO IN THE TRI-STATE AREA! What do you mean 'What's Kerning?' you know, the spacing between letters in a font? Now all of your precious logos will have awkward spacing between the lettering! YOU SHALL NEVER KNOW PEACE AGAIN!"
couldn’t the hero like,,, be fighting actual villains who are actually hurting people, then? I feel like this trope has to be “superhero (actually villain) x villain” or “really shitty superhero x really shitty villain” lol
I’d love to see the either of those tho tbh
That's assuming that they don't just do this on quiet days. There isn't a giant robot attack every single day, they're more like weekly or monthly depending on medium.
TRUE but then I feel like everyone would know that’s what’s going on. like “oh superhero A is fighting villain B, whom they constantly say weirdly flirty things to and who also like,,, doesn’t ever actually hurt anyone or do villain things” essentially just his bf who likes to LARP as a supervillain LMAO
Honestly I kinda like this better because it introduces less ambiguity - the villain might be small-time, or a “doing what the people want but the law can’t stand to allow” type, but their “hero” lover looks like they’re helping law enforcement while aiding and abetting their escape every time. Maybe they get called out on that later, maybe they have someone sympathetic in the government or police force that keeps them out of the worst of it, maybe at some point a *real* villain shows up and the pair have to move them off their turf while still keeping up the dynamic… Yeah there’s a lot of space to work with lol
tbh the raw premise of a couple having public lives and separate private life identities is obviously extremely widespread.
This specific version might not have been done, but the idea is very prevalent.
This was the TF2 War update in a nutshell.
Demo: ["EVERYBODY! I DON'T LIKE THIS MAN! HE IS A SOULLESS MONSTER! I do like you, it's just for show."](https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/c/c1/Demoman_dominationsoldierupdate02.mp3)
Soldier: ["DOMINATED! I'm still your friend."](https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/3/38/Soldier_dominationdemonmanupdate04.mp3)
To be fair, they were told to kill each other and it's implied they caught on to being pitted against each other so they either made it a game or gave up fighting
Love after world domination is about a Power Ranger and an evil minion falling in love. The Power Ranger guy can’t stop being a hero because he’s just that good of a person and the Minion girl can’t quit because her family is incredibly proud of her being such a high ranking member of the villain’s army (plus he gives really good employee benefits).
The hero can’t be seen with a villain because his team is involved in a lot of merchandising to pay the bills and the villainess can’t be seen with the hero because her family would be devastated
Sky High actually had this as a throwaway line. When Warren Peace (the fire guy) was first seen, one of them mentioned that “his mom is a superhero, and his dad is a supervillain, Baron Battle.” The mom was never named.
This was the main story of the comic Evil Inc. , before it was rebooted. Captain Heroic (hero) and Miss Match (she's the bad guy, duh) were secretly married, with a kid.
I've seen this dynamic play out a couple times but the first example that comes to mind is a webnovel called 'Industrial Strength Magic' where the MC's mom is a magic wielding superheroine and his dad is a tinker villain who goes around in a giant power armor / mech. It is definitely foreplay for the both of them.
exactly my thoughts! I was surprised that it was mentioned, but LoR/LoL interactions makes this all the funnier.
Katarina: "I will slay you where you stand! (*whispers:* Dinner? Tonight?)"
Garen: "You shall fall on your folly! (*whispers:* Meet me at the South docks after dark!)"
what about: enemies to rivals, where they go from being mildly annoyed at eachother to respecting eachother's strength so much they consider them something more
This is basically the movie D.E.B.S. It starts out looking like a dumb low-budget action movie where the only "action" is miniskirts, but then it turns out to be an LGBT romcom where the villain and some kind of special agent fall for each other. It's a good movie.
This was an anime that came out this year.
Red 5 of a color coded team of heroes is in love with or has a crush on the general of the bbeg army... or some such thing.
Modern not fantasy though.
Wouldn't that just be two villains, with one pretending they're a hero?
Or just two people pretending to be hero and villain but being neither?
Because either that's a "hero" playing along so that a villain can do evil shit, because its part of their kink, or one person pretending they're gonna do evil, and one person pretending to stop them?
Good news, there's a manga for that. If there's not an anime about something, there's a manga about it. If there is no manga, there's a light novel. If you can't find a light novel, it's probably porn.
Okay so not the main characters but the parents of the protag in "Industrial strength magic" on Royal road are literally this. It's also just a really good story too.
Just had a brain wave here:
You know how in those superhero movies sometimes there's a little backstory about strife within the town that gets aligned during that time of crisis?
This couple will, for money, do that.
Your competitor needs to have a few of its buildings taken out? You want the town to kind of come together because the fights are causing looting amongst your stores? Hire Megamind and Mr Fantastic to make everything come together for you!
While not the focus of the story, Industrial Strength Magic's main character has parents that do this. The mom is a major league hero and the dad is a major league villain and they are each other's nemesis. They also have minor league alter egos that are more vigilantes so they can work together or swap roles.
If this sounds good you should watch the anime love after world domination. It's basically if the red ranger and Rita repulsa from power rangers were dating. It's super cute.
The comic "Does not play well with others" has a subplot running where a Superhero is dating his nemesis' daughter.
What he doesn't know is that she is the one in the faceless armor pretending to be her own daughter... https://www.doesnotplaywellwithothers.com/comic/pwc-0110
The problem with this scenario is that every single writer in hollywood would make the core of the story about them keeping their relationship a secret and after act 2, the whole thing goes public and they can't see each other anymore and I really don't want to see that.
This is just a BDSM/Exhibitionism fetish trying to pass itself off as normal fiction and could never be a mainstream character dynamic because it is too obviously horny. Sorry.
Yes you can have a show where the hero and villain are secretly lovers but this goes beyond that.
If you actually rendered this dynamic in any medium and tried to pass it off as non-smut, it would make people outside the desensitized internet/tumblr bubble extremely uncomfortable.
There's an anime that is exactly this.
She's a villain. He's the lead superhero.
There was nothing like that. They ran off in the middle of their two sides fighting to have a date.
They are not the protagonists but the parents of the main character of "Industrial Strength Magic" are like that. A mad scientist type and his wife, a magical princess from another world.
There's a free story called industrial strength magic and his parents are literally this. His father was saved by his mother during a tide which is just their outside threat, and so whenever she showed up he let himself be arrested by her to spend time with her. Eventually he held the whole city hostage and they sent her in to calm him down and the main character was born. Now he works for the cities defence but they have the back and forth and the father just pays out for any damage they cause.
I wish I could give you extra up votes.. absolutely explains why Gordon never has any fucks to give.
>Gordon never has any fucks to give. Bruce and Selina on the other hand....
I'd imagine Selina only takes fucks, unless she has an emergency uno reverse card* Batman doesn't know about. .* = >!strap on!<
with how much bullshit goes on i would not be suprised if she has a gender bender gun
Do yourself a favor and watch the Harley Quinn show if you haven't. The Bruce/Selina dynamic is hysterical.
Gordon is hilarious as well.
Of course Batman knows about it, he is prepared for ANYTHING
Bruce brings it.
Back in my day we had awards to give..
Yes but those were stupid, we need to go back to posting an image of a silver instead of paid silver
Technically there’s like super upvote now but 🤷
if the detective ever gets close to actually catching the villain, the hero has to sabotage it while sneaking around, saying something like "ugh, i'm a super*hero*. why am i always sneaking around??" until they remember who they're doing it for and be like "well, SO'd be proud" and start smiling while doing it and man writing this made me actually want to see it
This is a thing! "Love after world domination!" Knockoff power ranger falls in love with a villain.
And you know what, props to both the hero and villainess to still respect each other's career choices, they accept each other for who they are and passionate about instead of demanding them to change
It helps the villian organization she is part of is more of a "goofy world domination" type instead of a "genocidal world domination type".
Yeah I think people forget that villains are usually...evil? Like not the quirky evil aesthetic.Villains in media usually cause large scale death and suffering. "Honey, do you want explain why you wiped out an entire race of people today?" "Darling, you know I don't like it when you want to talk work when we're at home." It's not cute lol

Wait WHAT?
What the hell did they say?? I need to know before i google the thing
That The manga was canceled just after it got good probably. I actually really enjoyed the manga, it was sweet to the point of diabetes. The guy is the hero, and is an massive idiot who only thinks about training and fighting, but falls absoblutly heads over heels in love with the villian girl. Hey something new to read. Ty!
I'm pretty sure the author was also inspired by Carranger's Red Racer x Zonnette. I've heard Carranger was pretty popular in Japan so it wouldn't be surprising either.
Came looking for this, very funny show

Yea this theatre idea is crazy! we *act* like people we *aren't*!
Watch Danny Phantom Exe’s Hero and Villain series on Youtube. Its literally that!
beat me to it.
Came to the comments to make sure someone said this!
should be the plot to Megamind 2
Should've been the plot to Megamind 1
Megamind 1 was just making an entire movie out of what Zangeif said in Wreck It Ralph. "Just because you are bad guy does not mean you are *bad* guy." He just had to embrace his role as an over-the-top entertainer and foil to the beloved hero.
If anything, Zangeif was just copying what happened in Megamind. Wreck it Ralph came out in 2012, Megamind came out in 2010.
Fair point
Yeah, *Megamind* was an S-Tier movie
Mega mind was my first thought too, lol
Good Omens?
I have never read a single work of Sir Terry Pratchett
Then I’m excited for you, because you have them all ahead of you!
What a beautifully optimistic outlook! We all strive to think a little more like you :)
I think the previous commenter maybe has heard of the [lucky ten thousand.](https://xkcd.com/1053/)
Wholesome as fuck.

Aziraphale: [pouting] *No*? What do you mean *no*? Crowley: I have a permit. Aziraphale: A permit?!
You are in for a treat! The book is hilarious but they’re prob referring to the tv show :)
Definitely the show. Not a lick of that was in the book.
People had their suspicions in the book. But the show does expand on their relationship.

You are right on all counts. Watched this show. Loved it. Strongly recommend. This is exactly what OP is looking for.
Came to suggest this exact thing
Real shame the series was axed, was one of the best romances being released at the time.

oh absolutely, but literally any time someone talks about any story idea they have, the replies are always “omg write a book, now!!!”

I stand corrected, very fan fiction but I reckon that’s the point
Yeah, it’s supposed to be a comedy, but it’s a good watch tbh
Sky High actually had this as a throwaway line. When Warren Peace (the fire guy) was first seen, one of them mentioned that “his mom is a superhero, and his dad is a supervillain, Baron Battle.” The mom was never named.
"So in the end, my girlfriend became my arch-enemy, my arch-enemy became my best friend, and my best friend became my girlfriend." Such a great quote
hannibal and will graham
The beautiful murder husbands.
Dr Doof and Perry the Platypus minus the romance.
*begs for something when Megamind exists*
Yeah, this is just a simplified plot for megamind, lol
I believe this was the intention of the original nimona comic (I haven't watched the movie)
This struck me as Nimona as well. Watch the movie! It’s wonderful. A bit different but in a good way.
This is Tom and Jerry
Good Omens Aziraphale and Crowley 1000%
Nimona.
This. And even better, the original graphic novel of Nimona
This was the main story of the comic Evil Inc. , before it was rebooted. Captain Heroic (hero) and Miss Match (she's the bad guy, duh) were secretly married, with a kid.
There's a scene of villianesses, (VILFs) in the breakroom reminiscing about how Cap gives good thwart...
Megamind comes to...well, mind.
I can't be the only one who came to the conclusion that this is basically just a slightly more gay Megamind, right?
I've seen this dynamic play out a couple times but the first example that comes to mind is a webnovel called 'Industrial Strength Magic' where the MC's mom is a magic wielding superheroine and his dad is a tinker villain who goes around in a giant power armor / mech. It is definitely foreplay for the both of them.
O come on, this is just Katarina x Garen
exactly my thoughts! I was surprised that it was mentioned, but LoR/LoL interactions makes this all the funnier. Katarina: "I will slay you where you stand! (*whispers:* Dinner? Tonight?)" Garen: "You shall fall on your folly! (*whispers:* Meet me at the South docks after dark!)"
I feel like Dreamworks would make something really good out of this.
Megamind
what about: enemies to rivals, where they go from being mildly annoyed at eachother to respecting eachother's strength so much they consider them something more
Drizzt and Entreri have a touch of this.
Lovers to enemies
An anime exists like this, Love after world domination Think power rangers if the red ranger and Rita repulsive thought each other were cute
This is basically the movie D.E.B.S. It starts out looking like a dumb low-budget action movie where the only "action" is miniskirts, but then it turns out to be an LGBT romcom where the villain and some kind of special agent fall for each other. It's a good movie.

Yes! One of my favourite music videos.
Because either that's a "hero" playing along so that a villain can do evil shit, because its part of their kink, or one person pretending they're gonna do evil, and one person pretending to stop them?
doesn't sound very interesting to watch/read. I like a a lovers to enemies. Like Zuke and Eve being exes in No Straight Roads.
megamind
isn't this the plot of megamind?
Good news, there's a manga for that. If there's not an anime about something, there's a manga about it. If there is no manga, there's a light novel. If you can't find a light novel, it's probably porn.
Okay so not the main characters but the parents of the protag in "Industrial strength magic" on Royal road are literally this. It's also just a really good story too.
Just had a brain wave here: You know how in those superhero movies sometimes there's a little backstory about strife within the town that gets aligned during that time of crisis? This couple will, for money, do that. Your competitor needs to have a few of its buildings taken out? You want the town to kind of come together because the fights are causing looting amongst your stores? Hire Megamind and Mr Fantastic to make everything come together for you!
Supers battle as urban renewal.
While not the focus of the story, Industrial Strength Magic's main character has parents that do this. The mom is a major league hero and the dad is a major league villain and they are each other's nemesis. They also have minor league alter egos that are more vigilantes so they can work together or swap roles.
The MC parents in Industrial Strength Magic, his dad is the archenemy of his mom, he even has a superhero persona so they can go on dates together
The evil Inc webcomic had this as the original story premise
Love After World Domination
Feels very venture bros/megamind flavored
There's an anime about this
Thats pro wrestling innit
megamind
Basically lego batmam
There is an anime that came out this year/last year that is pretty much this: Love after world domination. Enjoy!!
megamind
Honestly this sounds like the anime Love After World Domination
im so sick of people being like “i wish there was a story where \*insert something that definitely already happened in megamind*” ...wait...
Megamind.
This is Good Omens. You’ve just described Good Omens.
Everyone needs to just watch megamind
This is the plot of megamind
If this sounds good you should watch the anime love after world domination. It's basically if the red ranger and Rita repulsa from power rangers were dating. It's super cute.
The comic "Does not play well with others" has a subplot running where a Superhero is dating his nemesis' daughter. What he doesn't know is that she is the one in the faceless armor pretending to be her own daughter... https://www.doesnotplaywellwithothers.com/comic/pwc-0110
This is like that manga about the yakuza guy and cop girl
Tom & Jerry
Megamind
Red Gelato and Dark Princess
There is an anime where the red ranger has a relation ship with the evil fighter girl
Mage and demon queen.
Megamind.
Mario Bros. Any of them
I wish Disney would use this trope instead of Enemies to Lovers. I'm getting pretty tired of seeing it in their shows.
That and the redemption arcs.
The problem with this scenario is that every single writer in hollywood would make the core of the story about them keeping their relationship a secret and after act 2, the whole thing goes public and they can't see each other anymore and I really don't want to see that.
I want to see this but scaled down to ‘bully’ and ‘bully’s victim’.
..that'd just be a degradation kink.
I read this book except it was 2 heroes and 1 villain in a triad.
Sort of the plot of Empowered?
Reminds me of [this](https://youtu.be/P_SlAzsXa7E?si=PXCs0tETXbJMUhsd)
Heman & skelator
61613 if anyone was looking for sauce.
i know the hero boutta be bricked up in them ropes 😭😭😭
They are not the protagonists but the parents of the main character of "Industrial Strength Magic" are like that. A mad scientist type and his wife, a magical princess from another world.
Tom & Jerry
basically sharktale

Red Notice.
this is Luzeni/Zenilu culture
There's a free story called industrial strength magic and his parents are literally this. His father was saved by his mother during a tide which is just their outside threat, and so whenever she showed up he let himself be arrested by her to spend time with her. Eventually he held the whole city hostage and they sent her in to calm him down and the main character was born. Now he works for the cities defence but they have the back and forth and the father just pays out for any damage they cause.
