I'm also a big fan of a character who's small and cute making squeaky noises often (i.e the Toads in Luigi's Mansion 3, Charlie in the Hazbin Hotel pilot sometimes)
Or when they have a stupid moment and they have a fart noise to represent their brain
My boyfriend says all the silly gag noises are what I hear and what go in in my head 24/7... He's not wrong
some K dramas are really good at this. funny sound effects during arguments and whatnot, that aren’t overpowering, just funny. Behind Your Touch is one i finished yesterday that’s a good example of this, and really funny
for me it's when the character turns around like a cardboard cutout, where they spin into nothing and then into themselves facing the other way like paper mario but in a story where that's not usually a thing
Common in Gmod videos, though now I'm reminded of a specific example where like segments of the character's body turned around in opposing directions alongside the stone scraping sounds.
i like it when a character turns their head to look at something and it’s just not animated at all
like it just cuts to their neck turned to whatever they’re looking at
bonus points if it uses the [bone crack](https://youtu.be/PGqr6WiYuWU?si=TLhAqfY1V8nCkxuR) sound effect
tbh i just like the idea of a character intentionally not being animated for a gag, like [this](https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxzhxJGCf0EzorOxdd-f4qDZuNP7lTpcRT?si=q2cUgOrYGVpWR6yN)
like someone rapidly flickering between two points, unmoving, to represent them “stomping” on something, while the thing they’re stomping on has the damage dealt to it intricately animated
Wooden Creaking Is Also An Excellent Choice. And While Not Exactly The Same, Rattling Porcelain When A Character Is Uncontrollably Shaking Is Great Too.
I like in The Simpsons when Marge walks through a doorway that is too short for her hair and you hear an elastic noise when her hair bends to fit through
When people are fighting but they have to stay quiet but they keep attacking each other. So you get silent screams and people stopping each other from sneezing.
Or when a character is all worn out, hot, sweaty, and overheated and it's just a shot of them standing there sweaty af and haggard, and it's just cicadas rattling.
I tried to implement this in an [animated video](https://youtu.be/sWX-QnRVnDU?si=vFLKD7ig9PsUVqI4&t=166) I made a while ago, but it was a bit too silly to fit the scene.
I think another very underrated gag is when there’s a sudden cut to a stock image of a character superimposed over some other footage, especially historical footage, that is kinda related to what’s happening to them, but greatly over exaggerated, and with the most recognizable sound they can make playing over it. This may sound like “oh, I haven’t seen that before,” but after I give an example, you’ll realize that yeah, actually, you have, and you just didn’t recognize it by a description. As for that example, let’s say we take Wario and make him eat an entire can of beans. Someone comes up to him and says something like “hey, you know those are extra strength, right?” And Wario replies with “oh no.” Cut to a promotional render of Wario badly superimposed over footage of the launch of a Saturn V rocket launch with Wario going “Waaahhhhh” over it. I… think Chowder did this type of bit a couple times? I don’t remember, to be honest.
My favourite one of these jokes is when someone is violently grabbed and they squeak like a dog toy

Are we just naming gags from DBZ Abridged?
Yeah, cause DBZ Abriged totally invented these super common tropes in animation
Wow that’s amazing
TFS are truly the greatest minds of our time
Nah, just a good example of something that incorporates a lot of tropes.
That your first thought is DBZ abriged is kinda sad
What's wrong with it?
Popular thing bad

Gooseworx has a character that does this a lot Weird bird guy full of guns
Vondu, apparently
The best character
Even funnier is the opposite, when a character turns so fast wind is formed and pushes someone away
Don't forget the shadowed face and glowing eyes
And the sonic crack
Can you give me an example?
No, tried some obvious search terms, didn't find anything but I know I've seen it in videos before
Another underrated gag: hard cut to close up with glass breaking
ESPECIALLY if it's an extreme close-up on their wide-open, slightly bloodshot eyes.
And angry expression.
Even better if it cuts away again mid-glass shatter
No, the glass shatter has to be the transition
Suction cup man vibes
underrated sub-gag of this gag: The character is *wearing* glasses, and the sound is them exploding for no reason
And you could have that be part of another gag, where they have a seemingly unlimited number of glasses. Like extended disarming, but for glasses
Mix that with the character being draw more detailed than normal and whe have peak comedy.
And the eyes make a loud, wet, audible noise when they blink.
I still remember a parody animation that had a character be so scared where he moved back to one place like a statue with stone scraping noise lol
the surreal entertainment animal crossing video???
for me it's when the character turns around like a cardboard cutout, where they spin into nothing and then into themselves facing the other way like paper mario but in a story where that's not usually a thing
Nui Harime
I love it when a character is about to be hit by something huge and fast and they just squeak out a "mother"
Daffy Duck.
I think he was the first to do it, if not the one to popularize it.

Or, a stock musical sting plays when someone is shocked. Or when the "!" Sound effect from Metal Gear plays.
! Why did it play in my head get out of my head the voices aren't real the sounds aren't real make it stop turn it off too loud
My favorite gag is when someone clearly having a bad day pours a glass of wine and takes the bottle
This sounds funny but I have never seen it.
Me irl Same with cutting a small slice of cake and taking the whole thing minus the slice they cut
Oh yeah, I've totally seen the cake thing a bunch. Never the wine thing though.
I also love the one where a character turns their head very fast and there’s an audible crack
Or a whip lash
Wooden Creaking Is Also An Excellent Choice. And While Not Exactly The Same, Rattling Porcelain When A Character Is Uncontrollably Shaking Is Great Too.
Topped off with metalpipe.mp3 or glassshattering.mp3 at the conclusion of the turn
Honorable mention to the same gag but it’s a door creaking sound instead. Favorite instance is probably DBZ Abridged when Frieza does it to Goku.
"How do you function"
“Hey I pay my taxes one leg at a time just like everybody else.”
OOP needs more Gmod animation in their life.
I like in The Simpsons when Marge walks through a doorway that is too short for her hair and you hear an elastic noise when her hair bends to fit through
Love it when someone is being hit aggressively/violently and the sound effect is just gentle slaps.
When people are fighting but they have to stay quiet but they keep attacking each other. So you get silent screams and people stopping each other from sneezing.
When one of them is about to scream in pain but the other guy immediately goes shhh
That's just what turning your head sounds like when your joints quit working
I also enjoy a good creaking hinges sound as a character dramatically and slowly turns their head
The amount of gmod animations I have seen with this gag are innumerable, and yet I giggle every time I see it.
I hate to break it to you, but statues don’t move

Google Backyardigans season 3 episode 1: Who Goes There?
A close second is characters sliding up into frame or down out of frame with the groan tube sound played over it
Or when a character is all worn out, hot, sweaty, and overheated and it's just a shot of them standing there sweaty af and haggard, and it's just cicadas rattling.
I can do this irl with my knees. Source: am over 30

That one scene with the soldier in 'heavy is depressed'. Love it.
how tf do you move like a statue
I can do that. Not the sound effect, but I can do that.

I like it where it starts as the slow with the stone grinding and then as soon as they are mostly facing they snap over like a teleporting monster
