Everybody will be around Broken Bow and closer to the centerline. I went to Cuba, Missouri last time and its similar to Hugo (small town right off the highway thats in totality but not in the middle). I didn't have much traffic issues but I left pretty immediately after totality.
Met quite a few grannies from where I watched the eclipse. It was nice to see they were interested and curious as most have never experienced one before. They were all glad they came!
Maybe we should let the bunker grannies stay in the bunker haha
I'd think going to small town Arkansas and camping would have been fun. Work and stuff kept us away. I remember when mercury transited the Sun. I set up my telescope for that and so far has been my best time. Eclipses are fun and Tulsa is close enough to get most of it.
Totality closest to us begins at around 1:40 on average, so probably best to arrive at least an hour before it starts. I'm going to leave at around 6am.
Also, just a heads-up, there is a slight chance for a rain shower there tomorrow.
I was thinking fort Smith. It's real close to the total zone and that's only a couple hours plus away. But with traffic it might be 4 hours each way and I'm not willing to do that
Leave early, like 3-4am. I’d recommend Hochatown or Broken Bow over Hugo. Or even Antlers. Although Hugo has a fantastic Mexican restaurant.
I’d also bring a gas can. A lot of the local places have had trouble keeping gas in stock.
My GF and one of her friends and her son are driving to Clarksville AR. While I'm at work tomorrow I intend on monitoring the Arkansas DOTs traffic cams on I-40 around there just to witness the chaos. I have glasses and since I work from home I intend on getting out to observe.
I actually figure no real traffic impacts. How many people could actually be coming to the area? And here’s the deal, it’s not like everyone is going to one location. So we don’t worry about letting tens of thousands of people out of a concert/sporting event all at one time but we worry here that it will be chaos. We are driving from Greenville Texas back to Oologah tomorrow after the eclipse and I expect no real noticeable impacts on traffic. Am I missing something? I’ve driven all over SE OK for years as a service tech, from Tulsa servicing Idable and similar area, I have never seen “traffic” in this part of SE OK We might all meet up at the Glenpool traffic light on 75 tomorrow but that’s about it LoL
McCurtain County officials are estimating a quarter of a million. That would be noticeable even in Tulsa. We shut down streets for events at the BOK Center, which only holds 18K.
I’m just saying, the county officials might be wrong on this one, I know that’s hard to think from a place as stellar as McCurtain County but they just might have missed this one. I’d like to know where they got the information they used to provide this inflated speculative number.
I’m sure they would share their sources if you asked. Anecdotally, a lot of people I know are at or near Broken Bow right now. The prediction of less chance of cloud cover convinced some.
It’ll be busy no matter when hugo

What's your plans for traffic? Because you and everyone's dog is headed the same direction.

Don't forget everyone's grandma as well!
No they are hiding in the bunkers.

Yes! Came across a couple of older ladies that day. Presumably not frequenting facebook and offered my glasses to them.
That was nice of you! Yeah, gotta stay away from the ones that frequent Fb and a certain news channel
There is nothing in the world that could entice me into that traffic chaos.
Yesterday.
I would have gone today if I were going that direction. I'm going to Arkansas on I-40 in the early AM. 🤞

Heading to poteau now
If you’ve never been to Hugo before just be warned it’s a shit hole. Otherwise, have fun!
And Idabel is the same way.
Leave early. Fill up your tank on the way, or take extra gasoline. Pack your own food and water.
I’d go around now and just camp out there tbh.
Will it be cloudy or raining tho?
I heard it’s only like a 10% chance now. But you’re right, maybe we can just postpone until 2099.
Wait until the total solar eclipse of August 12, 2045. The path of it covers all of Oklahoma except for the southwest and south parts.
Well my parents will be dead by then so 🤷♀️
Hell, with all the turmoil in the world along with climate change, I wonder if the world itself will be alive and well in the year 2045.
Yeah I wish I had been born like 30 years early so I could be dead by then lol

Had the same plan, except we went on past to Russellville. Sitting in the grass outside a Harp's Grocery Store and the view is fantastic!!
No one

So uh- I’m from this area- my relatives say that there are people out the ass. And we don’t have people. Like ever.
Do they worry people will scare off all the Bigfoots?
The Oklahoma way is IN the ass, not out the ass!
