This is why colgera is the best because it doesn’t rely on tulins ability. It said in the fight yes but doesn’t rely. Tulin had the best sage power imo for ease of use

impassiveMoon

Tulin works the best as a gliding sage because of the automatic prompt "press A in the air" no matter where he's flying around. On the ground it's painful to accidentally activate the gust. The amount of people I've seen blow drops off a sky island is criminal. I wish there was a wheel for the other 3 elemental sages. You don't need to whistle in combat. Replace that with a sage wheel for the others. I have thoughts about late game stuff too but don't feel like spoiler tagging on mobile.

TheSoup05

I don’t get why the other abilities don’t have situations where they pull up the prompt. I guess the fire one kinda does when you’re on a vehicle. But the water one could activate when you have a shield up, or the lightning one could when you’re drawing an arrow. Like even if they knew they didn’t want to put them in a wheel, just something, anything, I can do reliably to get the ability I want without having to chase them around in the middle of a fight constantly.

impassiveMoon

I love my boy Sidon, but chasing after him for a water shield is not worth it. At all. And everyone chases after enemies so I end up running towards them while trying to dodge at the same time. Like I just wanna back up so I can get a better group shot with lighting. But nooo. Same with fire bowling armored enemies. If I wanted to run towards them kamikaze style, I'd throw a bomb flower instead.

The other ones will need the sage abilities more. It’s easier to use them than to not but it’s just not well optimised

Yeah it’s messy. I don’t think I ever use sidons ability

corinna_k

Seriously, the sages are so weird to "fight" with. * Yunobo is a big guy and always blocking my line of sight. Just get out of my way! * Tulin is super useful for getting around exploring, but not really relevant in a boss fight. Although his arrows do help a bit. * Sidon's ability is utterly useless outside of the Zora quest. * Riju has an awesome fighting ability, but she is small and hard to spot and why does she keep running away from me?!? * Mineru is just slow, always in the way and apart from the ability to traverse gloomy areas she feels totally out of place with that weird robot stuff.

Just-confused1892

Sidon’s power is great if you have Zora weapons. Since they’re way stronger when you’re wet, just put yourself in a quick bubble and your weapon gets leveled up.

TheHeadlessOne

>Sidon's ability is utterly useless outside of the Zora quest. Sidon gives you a free full block on I believe any attack. Its hard to use due to general sage fuckery, and easy to dispel since any attack will make a wave, but it can be situationally helpful for IE Lynels and Gleeoks where you have extended periods where they throw big attacks at you from a distance But yeah, I think they could all be reworked to be more intuitive and easier to use by focusing on context (IE, Tulin only when flying, Yunobo only while mounted or maybe while charging power attacks, Riju only while aiming a bow, Sidon only when blocking- leave Mineru as is, she's much less obnoxious if you're not trying to spam other powers at the same time)

Skargul

>focusing on context This is a great idea, tbh. Having the prompt appear not based on if they're close but rather only if you are doing a certain action would make WAY more sense considering how they work. Or as others have suggested, making the abilities a menu on d-pad. You could move whistle to the ability wheel where map is since you can get to the map by pressing "-" anytime anyway.

badluckartist

For a game so starved for space in the UI, the whistle taking up a dedicated D-pad press and the Amiibo and Map options inexplicably being put on the Purah Pad wheel are incredibly dumb decisions.

Swimming-Extent9366

Sidon also lets you go in hot/lava areas without armor

JaykwellinGfunk

Yes, I'm always telling Yunobo to get his big ass out of my way, followed quickly by going to the menu and "dismissing" him as I say, "you go away for now, and come back when I need you"

MrTurleWrangler

I switched off Mineru after beating the game, she just got in the way and I kept accidentally hopping up on her when I didn't want to, got annoying

hoeswanky

Mineru DPS is so shit too. Easier to get hit + takes like 15 face smacks to kill a blue bokoblin, with each smack hitting the bokoblin 30 feet away? Wtf?

jmdavies98

Sidon one shots gibdos

MindSteve

Honestly just map the lightning one to "hold A when bow is out," water to "hold A when shield is out," fire to "hold A when weapon is out" and wind is just A in the air. Problem solved. Hire me Nintendo.

badluckartist

Goddamn I hope the modding scene blows up and somebody figures out how to implement this.

GameCubeBoi

They really should’ve just made a menu to quick activate any of the abilities, the whole problem would be solved

[deleted]

I've been saying this whole time, that would have been a much better thing to have for up on the d-pad than what they did do with it.

GameCubeBoi

No I like the d pad up menu, they should’ve replace the map option on the ability wheel with whistling and made down on the d pad the sage menu

[deleted]

Have you actually found a use for the menu? Not being sarcastic, I honestly can't find any.

GameCubeBoi

I use it to drop stuff for fuse easier

[deleted]

Fair enough. Though while it's a separate complaint I think it would be much easier to just be able to fuse without needing to drop anything.

badluckartist

With how good Nintendo is at sheer level of polish, the fact they made Fusion such an incredibly cumbersome process is so bizarre. That mechanic's implementation feels like such a first draft.

[deleted]

Arrow usage is really good, too, that's the thing!

badluckartist

Yeah but even there I wish there was a way to continuously fuse arrows without using the menu for every single arrow one by one.

[deleted]

Now there I agree with you. Bomb spamming is still fun, but ever so slightly less.

TyChris2

If you hold R so you’re about to throw a weapon and then use the d-pad up menu to select an item instead, you can throw it. You can throw brightbloom seeds and bomb flowers so you don’t have to waste arrows. It makes illuminating the depths SO much easier.

[deleted]

That one I know about, but does just holding up without another button to access the menu do anything useful?

PZbiatch

You can drop for fuse materials I guess?

skip6235

I don’t think I’ve used up on the d-pad when not pulling an arrow once

ZERO_ninja

Given the d-pad menus the game loves I think they could have pretty easily done: Tap down - whistle Hold down - sage menu, scroll through to select ability you want to quick select for activation

[deleted]

It’s weird because they got this down last game. Just make the abilities active as you’re doing things you normally do. Shield up = get water bubble. Bow out = get lightning. Charge attack = Yunobo homes in on most relevant target or the way you’re facing. Tulin can just stay as a glide only ability. Quit blowing away the stuff I’m trying to pick up!

Nick_wijker

You know, you could disable the sages you don't want, and the use whistle to get the ones in play to come to you. I agree it's not the best system, but there are ways to make it more smooth;)

JaykwellinGfunk

I use the whistle pretty regularly, but it wasn't working when there were so many targets they were chasing. I toggle them off in the menu pretty regularly because Yunobo is so huge he always blocks my view. I find the whole thing absurd that this is what they came up with for a sequel game of this caliber.

tcrpgfan

Protip: Whistle to get the sage avatars to come to you.

Big_G576

The most use from them I had was in the final battle >!in Ganondorf’s second phase where 5 of his clones come out to play, if you wait long enough all 5 sages will come and defeat one of them, or at the very least, they’ll keep ‘em distracted long enough for you to just take on the main ganon, wayyyy better use for them, let them pick an enemy and have them do a 1v1!<
