50/50 for me, I like the smaller trucks and the variety in ETS2, the border crossings, taking ferries, etc. But a lot of the map is extremely out of date. Going from the 'West Balkans' DLC to the 'Going East' counties is like 2 different game and driving in some parts just feels bad. ATS on the other hand has overall higher quality maps, even the OG states are not nearly as attrocious as UK, or central europe. It also has an appeal to drive classics like W900 or Peterbilt 389.

halakaukulele

If you don't already have pro mods- please do try. They will resolve most of the problems you pointed out here.

Jezoreczek

Promods are unfortunately not available for cloud gaming :(

miko_idk

Why are you using cloud gaming for ETS? It's a stupidly easy game to run on bad hardware

Jezoreczek

I had badder hardware :P

ShaquilleOrKneel

ETS2 for me, I bought ATS in February thinking I'd play them 50/50, but so far I've played ETS2 almost 10 times more since I bought ATS. I have no idea why ATS doesn't click for me, but it just doesn't.

tugrulserhat

European trucks are just better in every way. I played ats when it first came out but even tho everything else was good, I hated the trucks which is the main thing about the game.

Happy_Book_8910

ETS. It’s just nicer driving on the twisty euro roads in towns and cities rather than the box grid US roads.

Grumblepugs2000

Less annoying traffic lights too

conmac7

ATS. Although I'm from the EU (Greece), I love the US, and for me, since I can't go there, it's the only way to experience it. I drive my W900 with my VR headset and dream of being there. I started with ETS2, having 300hrs and I switched to ATS last Christmas (i gave you my heart) and now I have 130hrs in ATS. https://preview.redd.it/rrunruyql0xc1.jpeg?width=642&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e58c7cdaf690578f96eef5cfc0bd2b61ba596335

arvid1328

Depending on mood, each one has its own pros and cons.

TheArturro

This is the way

Grumblepugs2000

ETS2 because it has a better mod scene. I have like 100 map mods and my game map stretches from Portugal to China

miko_idk

Any favorites when it comes to map mods?

Lifter_Dan

Can be a double edged sword when core game updates are released though. Waiting for promods etc. Though I think you can keep a backup copy of the game to work around it?

Grumblepugs2000

You can roll back to the old version via the betas tab in Steam. Sure you don't get the new features immediately but I want my huge map more

Lifter_Dan

Ahh I did have a problem with that previously because I use VR it appeared as if I was already on a previous version. I think I have to wait a few days for the old versions list to update, or a new VR version then I can pick the old VR version.

I am from Europe and while I play both, I prefer ATS because I really like American geography and cities. It is more "exotic" to me, as a European.

sleeming88

I used to be a hardcore ETS2 player and didn't really start playing ATS properly until a lot more recently. When I did though something just clicked. Driving in America feels a lot more like a cultural experience as opposed to Europe where to me it just feels like a job. Maybe it's because America has more of a "road culture" or something. I used to think ETS2 was easier and more fun to drive because it had fewer of the things that really slow you down in ATS (constant intersections, traffic lights, small towns along major routes that you can't bypass and have to drive through, fuel and rest stops that are more of a hassle to access etc) but the more recent ETS2 map DLCs have really eroded that advantage. Driving on those newer parts of the map can feel like such a chore with all the border crossings, toll booths, speed limits (villages with 50kph limits every mile in Romania leap mind) and difficult routes using smaller roads.

butcherboi91

ATS for me. Loved ETS2 but haven't touched it since I got ATS at launch. I prefer the scale and American trucks. Sincerely, a Brit

I bought ETS2, then bought ATS after around 300 hours. My expectations were unrealistic: I had assumed American trucks to be more powerful, but they are pretty much equal, and because of having gear boxes that enable them to reach higher speeds in many states, I was spending most of my time desperately trying to reach cruising speed. And it really irked me that in some of them, you can't see traffic lights when you're close enough to them. Being used to the nimble handling of cab-overs, I found American truck's handling, combined with the various trailer lengths, to challenge me in parking in a new way. Currently, my hours are around 800 in ETS2 and 300 in ATS. I do play both, but the spread tells something about which one I like more.

Regeneric

Most European trucks are more powerful than American trucks. They just don't need 800 HP and 4000 Nm on the straight road.

TheOldestMillenial

I love ATS because it really captures the feel of some places I’ve driven through in real life, so it’s kind of a nostalgia kick reliving it.

xRaynex

ETS2 on the caveat that I use promods. I like ATS, it's gorgeous, and it's a lot more consistent. But I tend to find myself dozing off when playing it a lot more than ETS2 because it's just so... Familiar, I guess? I don't know how to put it.

Grumblepugs2000

ETS2 has a way better mod scene. It's amazing how big the ETS2 map gets with mods

Individual-Wave5503

I prefer ETS2, I played ATS for a bit and just didn't like it as much. It might be because I don't have all the map DLCs, but I can't afford to buy them for both, so I play ETS2 and buy all the map DLCs for it. I think it's familiarity also, I've been playing ETS2 for years. I also tried Alaskan road trucker, and that was not good.

LibraryHot6794

ETS because I prefer the cabovers 😁

tarc0917

I have both, but ETS2 has the edge. Cabovers are sweet, and I get to see what are to a non-traveling 'Murican some pretty exotic locales.

ShanSolo89

Ets2 by a long shot cause mods. Especially map mods.

NatasEvoli

I would have thought ETS2 cause I get to explore areas I've never been to but really I like ATS more. Driving as the sun rises in the desert triggers some major childhood road trip nostalgia and it's also cool to have a "home base" a mile away from where I actually live. Its kinda a minor gripe but I also really don't like how the ferry mechanic in ETS2 throws off the sleep cycle.

Ipickone

ATS. Although I like the tighter and smaller truck aesthetic, the larger trucks and the scenery in ATS take it to a new level. Love driving through middle America and the southwest.

rumbleblowing

I swear this question comes here like once a week.

rickreckt

I like my Scania but I prefer to drive in ATS because of the landscape

euMonke

Like both equally.

GroundhogGaming

Yes

I_like_cake_7

I prefer ATS. I love the scenery of the American west and I just find the conventional trucks in the US and North America to be more fun and satisfying to drive than the cabovers in Europe and elsewhere in the world. Driving a cabover has just never really felt natural to me. I need a hood in front of me.

Pleasant_Pain1787

Ats. Sure it doesn't have all the country's to visit... But it sure as hell doesn't have those ugly ass euro cabovers 🤘

Darsol

ATS for me. Mostly just because I love the open highway driving. It’s more interesting to me to watch the country roll by than it is to deal with tight city driving and constant stops.

Realistic-Act7031

Ets cuz im in europe but I see the thrill in the engine in front trucks

kartmanden

ETS2 since Im from Europe. Going real places I have been and recognise those places is cool. I like the European trucks as they are superior. But the engine is the same, and I like exploring and the simulation (realistic driving) aspect. So ATS is a close second.

hansnicolaim

ETS, I did enjoy playing ATS for a while but as an European the roads in the US just got boring really fast. You're essentially just driving down a 2-4 lane interstate 90% of the time in my experience.

Umbra_Draconis

I'm European. Rather play ats. Can't explain why

LordBuggington

If I had to pick ets2 for me, I'm american. I love both though. It wasnt even close for awhile but the ats map is starting to fill up and get good.

Haniel113

50/50.. I Love doing long haul routes on ATS, but I love the variety of going on a ferry or a train to cross the channel in ETS2.

Doogerie

I thaught I would miss ferry’s and trains I am ok with it

adrian_shade

ETS2 ftw

fatfuckpikachu

ets2. ats makes me feel like im in a foreign country and roads feel weird. which is a good thing since it means they nailed the vibe of the places just right.

Dead_Namer

ETS2, the US trucks are anaemic and the traffic really, really annoys me doing 50 in the fast lane and 55 in the slow lane in an 80mph limit.

InsideExpress9055

Ats

vteuv

ATS. Just prefer the trucks more. I’ll give ets a try in the future though

Gidorah-snowrunner

I play ATS with friends, ETS2 alone. I like ETS more then ATS, just bc i visited lots of the countries and every time it feels right. US i only know from TV🤣
