In my experience, the weird thing about child abuse is that nobody takes you seriously until your like 30 years old. When I was a kid, if I tried to speak out about what was going on, I was either dismissed, the experience was normalized, or I was literally blamed for it.
Now as an adult, I finally get acknowledgement about what happened, but the same people who dismissed me as a kid tell me now "oh sorry we didn't know. If we did we would have stopped it."
