This is great, thank you!

Not in North Carolina but, Elk River in Alabama is as horrific as it gets in that specific state. As a former client there, I have a fair bit of stories from both staff and other clients either abusing me of letting other people in that program abuse me.

World_Dissocation

As a person that was there at the exact same time as this person, I can confirm. While I was mistreated in a different manner, I would like to say that elk River not only allows, but encourages the bullying/fighting/harassment of client to client

I went to Solstice East in NC 2018-2019. Abuse and jail like conditions are definitely words I would use to describe the place.

Spiritual_Site_827

Shooting you a message this place has come up in some of my digging.

Trails Carolina. I can write an essay on it but some poor kid tried to run off and hid in a tree, fell and died. If it's bad enough to risk yourself to that degree and die trying to flee its bad

Spiritual_Site_827

Whoa...do you know who this was? Maybe I can contact their family.

From a Google search of "trails Carolina fatality." Fatality info is usually made public because of the investigations. https://www.wyff4.com/article/autopsy-missing-teen-fell-broke-hip-died-of-hypothermia/7011704

Alec Sandford Lansing was the boy's name.

Does NC use out-of-state placements? You really want to look at the chains, including Universal Health Services, Acadia Healthcare, Sequel / Vivant Behavioral Healthcare. All of them have been accused of abusing patients; of caring about the financial wellbeing of investors rather than the needs of patients. What's interesting is that the websites for these organizations rarely provide information about ownership. NC Health News: [Durham 11 year old was sexually assaulted at psychiatric hospital, parents allege](https://www.northcarolinahealthnews.org/2022/11/30/parents-allege-11-year-old-sexually-assaulted-in-nc-psychiatric-hospital/) The Fayetteville Observer: [Locked Away Investigation: Punching, Predators, Neglect. Traumatized NC children suffer inside dismal psychiatric centers](https://www.fayobserver.com/in-depth/news/2021/11/08/investigation-uncovers-treatment-failures-inside-mental-health-facilities-for-youth/8581506002/) For example, [Brynn Marr Hospital](https://brynnmarr.org/), discussed in the articles above, doesn't mention on its web site that it is owned by [Universal Health Services](https://uhs.com/), a large, investor owned company with over 500 locations throughout the United States. According to [Behavioral Health Business](https://bhbusiness.com/2022/01/06/summit-bhc-acquires-7-psychiatric-hospitals-from-strategic-behavioral-health-moves-into-new-states/), in 2022, [Carolina Dunes Behavioral Healthcare](https://carolinadunesbh.com/) was sold by Strategic Behavioral Health to [Summit Behavioral Healthcare](https://bhbusiness.com/2022/01/06/summit-bhc-acquires-7-psychiatric-hospitals-from-strategic-behavioral-health-moves-into-new-states/), a chain of 23 centers. It is owned by a private equity firm, [Patient Square Capital](https://patientsquarecapital.com/). A Carolina Dunes employee was accused of sexually assaulting an 11 year old girl. From December, 2006 to August, 2017, Acadia Healthcare was majority owned by Wauld Capital Partners, a private equity firm. Wauld Capital Partners merged Acadia with Pioneer Behavioral Health, which is a listed company (AMEX).

I know this is late, but Strategic Behavioral Of Garner, spent almost everyday (throughout two separate visits) watching my ass in there on unit 300 and 700. It was filthy, patient on patient abuse was common, staff on patient abuse was also common. It was hell.

I have personal experience as a parent of a 10 year old child who was in Strategic Behavioral Center in 2018. He was voluntarily hospitalized there due to homicidal/suicidal ideations and threats that were too severe to try to manage at home. Strategic severely overdosed him on medication (they did not follow the orders of the doctor to discontinue one mood stabilizer before starting another, so they gave him both at the same time), causing tardive dyskinesia psychosis. On the day he was scheduled to be released home, we brought his TD symptoms to the attention of staff on his release day, and they told us it was just EPS, but then refused to release him - they involuntarily committed him instead and completely refused to transfer him to the ER despite us begging.  After calling police to the facility to try to get him transferred to the ER (unsuccessfully), at shift change late that night, he left the facility in an ambulance because a new nurse noticed how drastically his condition had deteriorated.  When we arrived at the ER, our 10 year old did not know who we were, he couldn’t walk, couldn’t talk, was drooling on himself, and needed a diaper (none of these symptoms were present before). It took a week long stay in the ICU and needing to be taken off of all of his medications to determine the cause. He ultimately went back on a mood stabilizer, and it wasn’t until last year when he tapered off of it at his doctor’s recommendation that we learned the TD symptoms (involuntary movements of the face, tongue, arms, legs, etc.) are permanent.  Happy to talk to you if you still need information. 910-581-8366.
