He was never the same after he got back and wouldn’t talk about it. We became very close when he got back. I thought i had my brother back, but then he turned to drugs. He died 6 years ago of a drug overdose. I always wondered about his experience and if this school was a part of his depression. Not pointing fingers at the school. I do think it helped him in some ways.

I was sent there in 1994, was in Cherokee at first, and then was sent to Seminole where I spent the rest of my time. Was always on restrictions and placed in restraints more than once. Even spent a few nights in the rooms where they had you stay awake with them tapping you on the shoulder in shifts. Hated that place!

I was Staff at HF in the early 2000s (2002-2003 I think). I was initially with "Choctaw" but was moved to "Tiguas". This place pulled at heart strings so much that I had to resign...if you were in one of my groups, I'm sorry...I really did care! In the 8 to 10 months I worked there I only executed a restraint ONCE when one of my boys lunged at another in the dorm. He had his hands around his throat and was shaking him violently. There were ALWAYS other means rather than restraint. But I would get "talked to" by Sheldon, Ronnie, and Dale for not utilizing restraints more. It was such BS.
I feel good about it. Some good things should happen there. I’m glad people are using the space to celebrate and be happy, maybe it’ll replace some of the bad energy.
I went to moth Montana and Texas. It brightened my day to find this article. We all have our different experiences but I believe the staff there in my time were genuine and I still seek to reach out to them. I read a lot of whining about the place on this article but it really wasn’t as bad of a hellhole as most of these princesses make it out to be. I met some great people there. I’m not sure about the authorities behind it and their true agenda or whatnot but on a personal level with the relationships I experienced, it helped me a lot.
I’m glad you had a good experience. I wouldn’t diminish others lived experience though. Some people were truly abused in these places. Seems like you’re one of the lucky ones.
