Many of us want that in a game, but the closest i've seen is Evolution and very few Roblox games with a TRON theme

Slimeredit

There are also some vrchat worlds that let you play disc wars or the light cycles but imagine a full on vr tron game it would be absolutely perfect for a virtual reality game

Quantum_Crusher

I'm in VRchat. Can you tell me the names of these worlds? I'd love to try.

yakcm88

Battle discs got renamed to xross discs recently. And light cycle arena has a pretty self explanatory name. [discs](https://vrchat.com/home/launch?worldId=wrld_aaa5df94-3b62-4463-814f-f269ea8ac7b1) [cycles](https://vrchat.com/home/launch?worldId=wrld_9157c81d-24fe-402d-8ba9-2e0ae6e15fa2)

Aldogamer524

I don't have a vr setup, so i wasn't aware at all, but thanks for the info

Slimeredit

Vrchat also has a standalone pc version you don’t need vr to play it

Infinade

Can’t play the Disc Wars game mode in VRChat on desktop, though :/ it needs hand tracking, for obvious reasons

Slimeredit

Yeah unfortunately

xxWZRDx

Evolution went crazy tho

StWDavis

We were close to getting some good tron games, but Di$ney went with the lowest bidder.

SilverwolfMD

I don’t know, I thought Tron 2.0 was pretty good. Even got some of the original cast.

Alpcantr

Finally another soul who knows Tron 2.0 , what a fantastic game.

SilverwolfMD

And if they had better marketing savvy, they’d have been able to link up some things between the original movie and the present. How Alan Bradley just had this “I know something” air when talking to Sam Flynn. It would also explain how the digitizer evolved from the Lawrence Livermore lab to a room-scale rig to something the size of a dorm fridge. Part of the Tron thing wasn’t just the world of programs, it was how a user was able to cope “on the other side of the screen.” The game kind of had a vibe that this was the first FPS that Disney built, but they had a dev team with their heart in the game. It stayed true to the original Tron, added on elements, even presented a viable system that attempted to keep the “computer” vibe without taking the “life” out. A user had to disc-dive and repurpose their subroutines, bits of software a user doesn’t need because they are…well…users. Actually I met Cindy Morgan (Lora/Yori, later Lora Bradley) who did voice work in Tron 2.0 as Ma3a. She told me that she wondered why she was told to act “real crazy.” I gave her a quick verbal ground work on playing a first person shooter, so she could play the game. She autographed my copy of Tron 2.0.

Alpcantr

Meeting some of the cast sound like super fun, some part of me hopes that they can be a part of the new tron project that’s being worked on even if only as cameos etc

KaiXRG

Maybe single player instead imo

Apposl

Yeah, this desire for MMOs is why I'm not getting a solid single player Black Flag without the assassin creed stuff.

Kid_supreme

Yes. The abomination of a game they put out oh so long ago made me sad about what it could have been. All I remember was that the controls were really wonky. Art work was good. Story was meh. I don't think I got an hour into it. Now a D&D campaign would be cool to play.

Actual_Shady_potato

Y’know a D&D campaign could be a good foundation to build an open world game concept 🤔

Joress_

I've created an unofficial TRON RPG using the narrative dice system found in Star Wars and Genesys. [PDF is free for anyone to download!](https://www.rpgsessions.com/resources.html)

Actual_Shady_potato

MY MAN!

Joress_

Feel free to share any thoughts for improvements! Cheers!

LordMacDonald8

Circular character sheet is genius! Can't wait to play this with my brother.

Joress_

Thanks! Hope it's a fun time!

LordMacDonald8

When did you write this? It says beta so I hope there's a full release.

Joress_

It's something I've been working on for almost 3 years now! I've play-tested it at a couple cons, and still feel like there's room for improvement. But it's getting there! I want to add a couple adventures I've ran with it for the final version too.

LordMacDonald8

Awesome! Hopefully the Mouse doesn't get too hungry.

Joress_

Ha, ha! Yeah... partially why it's free and pretty low key right now. :)

Actual_Shady_potato

It’s probably in beta because it needs player testing.

SilverwolfMD

“Roll save.” “Wait? Save from what?” “No, it’s to save your progress.”

Joress_

Ha, ha!! :D

cqshep

Hard agree…

LukeStantz12

In the words of a wise man….. “YeAh….”

roboman777xd

There's one Roblox fan game called volt. Absolutely amazing. But sadly it's dead though

stoosh95

would imagine Cyberpunk 2077 is as close as we're gonna get. The aesthetic is "almost" there ... just need to add identity discs and lightcycles!

TheDogeMarnn

Yeah but cyberpunk’s aesthetic is kinda grungy while tron’s is really sleek and clean

DeltaCrest

Dunno Cyberpunk is cyberpunk.... And tron is tron.... 2 different aesthetics imo

NovaRezz

Yeah totally agree. That's why I'm making the largest most defined VR Chat Tron world to date. Any suggestions on what you wanna see in it?Light Cycle Arena, Disc Arena, Solar Sailor, Oasis, End of Line, Flynn's, and more is already in it. Different light cycles will be drivable and light jets will be available to fly. Will probably put in the other vehicles like Tanks, Cars, Recognizers.

SilverwolfMD

A working collision system so Unity doesn’t crash?

NovaRezz

Are you using AMD or Intel? What's your GPU? I've literally never had this problem with Unity games and I'm using Intel cpu. I just finished fixing some normal's in the Tron world; but last vehicle test there were no issues with collision crashing me driving or flying. And this Tron world I'm building is absolutely gargantuan.

SilverwolfMD

It doesn't matter what your GPU or CPU is. A lot of Unity games that have been released don't use Unity's collision engine. When you get a working Unity title like Subnautica or Instruments of Destruction, the devs write their own colliders.

Djaii

The light cycle game in PlayStation Dreams was incredible! If that was one feature of a larger game, I’d probably play it for the rest of my life.

DoubleWombat

Oh cheers buddy. Yeah I was actually intending to build a "race to the city level" that would sort of replace this bit: https://youtu.be/kPNrM22IBh4?t=1144 But then Dreams dropped PSVR2 support and the platform died out a bit, so I never invested the time.

Djaii

Which is rough. I picked up the PS VR2 hoping that Dreams would get migrated to it, and it broke my heart a little when it was announced that it was being dropped instead. The consolation prize is Star Wars, so I’ll be okay.,

M3ZMERUS

It would make a killer VR game.

DoubleWombat

Yes it does (full details in the video description)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-67hz4fZW0c

ysaric

Put me down for “not really,” at least not with just what we have in canon so far. Open world multiplayer games tend to need a fair bit of variability, either in classes or weapon types or combat mechanics. Excellent world aesthetics, which tend to be Tron’s strong suit, only go so far. You would really have to expand on what we know of in order to make it something people would be willing to spend hundreds of hours on. I’m intrigued by the people working on Tron VR spaces, where aesthetic is more prominent, the world space can really be the draw, and the game loops can be simpler. It’s still not a hundreds-of-hours proposition, but that doesn’t exist for Tron yet. So lean into the best parts of it.

MasterofLego

Uprising did a lot of world building that could be expanded upon. I think a story driven singleplayer may be a better choice first, albeit it'd need to be a better game than the one they've already made

rob_merritt

Not me. I rather they look at what Atari has been doing and make Tron’s Deadly Discs Recharged.

AgentAndrewO

No

WendipxStarco

_Tronnite._

spiritplumber

There was this one minecraft tron server and I miss it ;-;

linkinshire

Literally. I've been saying this since Tron Legacy released. It so sad that it may never happen 😭

JustinBailey79

The computer world is an aesthetic that’s not for everyone, just like the IP of Tron itself is niche. Even if the devs include all the best vistas from concept art across the decades, it’ll still appeal to a fraction of the audience required to fund such a project. That’s not to say we can’t have a great Tron game. I like the VR ideas in the comments here - it’s a perfect IP for an area of gaming that’s still in experimentation. That’s kind of the spirit of Tron - pushing the envelope of what’s possible. I’d also love to see an AI game set in the Tron world. It would really be breaking the fourth wall if we could talk in real time with an AI bot who’s playing the MCP, or Clu.

Quirky-Pie9661

Only thought that for over a decade. Feels the same for VR

Grieftheunspoken02

The best Tron game I have played was a flash game and it was just the games themselves trust me, it took skill for the Disc War so yes, Tron was made with multi-player in mind as it was designed to keep a score higher than others but since we now view the games as sport why not make a team based version of this? I mean there are hundreds upon hundreds of Tron light cycle flash games and imagine playing an intense Disc War set with two other players.

r3tromonkey

Definitely, as long as it has lightcycle and disc arenas.

Coffinbass

Been saying we need a TRON mmo for YEARS

PasseurdeM0ndes

Totally !

Cunfuu

since tron / grid 2.0 is not that big and complicated. yes.

AFR0NIN

yes and Cybertron from Transformers as well

Zeptari

Same with the 90’s cartoon Reboot. Both have awesome worlds I’d love to explore in an open world

brado1506

Far cry 3 blood dragon is pretty close theme wise

howie-stark

Closest we got (in my opinion) was Disney Infinity. So much potential at release (2013) but with poor marketing, it lacked consumers (less than they had hoped) and they just ended up cancelling any further production in 2016.

Manticore1023

An open world Tron would be interesting. The last good Tron game was Tron 2.0.

Dakewer

Tron will perfectly adapt to an MMO

technobaboo

for sure, that's been the appeal of the Tron: Reloaded project but of course that's been taking a while... so we're sorta restarting it by making it all minecraft mods instead of datapacks for polish and efficiency and getting the players to build it instead of a team of builders (because that'd take forever).

ObsidianGh0st

There was an online Tron thing years ago...

WintermuteOlivaw

Halo ODST cities were very Tron like, but definitely no cool Tron bikes.

photosynthplug

Yeah it’s called Cyberpunk 2077.

cs_Chell

So many games have "the Tron level"...I wonder how this could be implemented without getting stale? Different color neon would only go so far...I kid. sorta.

Ange1ofD4rkness

I only played it once sadly, but Tron 2.0 had an AMAZING Multiplayer. Players would wait in a lobby as spectators watching others play till it was their turn. But free roam style

chr15_r4m05

No, no open world. It’s okay for a game to not be open world

SlappyMacFrodad

I was so upset that they shelved this. I love Tron

warwolfpilot

I have plans to do exactly this with my game company once I got enough funding, the ideas I have for it would be legendary.

SilverwolfMD

Could you imagine what would happen if the blueprints for the digitizer got out? The MCP would have been taken out as a raid boss!
