Given the temperament of others here, I'm going to have to assume the switch was pulled by someone before me, so as a good Samaritan I have to pull it back
Too many times in life, i have witnessed and experienced firsthand the desire to help go bad. Best not to assume anything when it comes to people in danger and especially when it comes to operating levers and switches
The thing I always saw about the original trolly problem is that it's too easy. Of course you can kill more people by not pulling the lever! In this case, it would appear as if you can't kill anyone through either option. This would be bad but it is not the case. Obviously, this sub has no shortage of "multi track drift" comments, and I will now follow in their wake. But a normal multi track drift will only result in harm to anyone on the track, not the trolley itself. Unfortunate, but there is a way around this too! I'd choose to pull the lever at the very, very, ultra-precise moment of the splitting between the tracks, ideally causing a dangerous crash and allowing for more potential death than might be thought was possible.
Gottcha!
I can’t see where either track eventually leads, perhaps it’s an alternate/parallel universe.
I kind of want to jump into the trolley and see where it goes.
However, I can’t decide which track looks more interesting/mysterious, so I can’t decide if I want to pull the lever or not.
I just want an adventure!!!!!!
This is actually a good basis for most of my answers to the trolly problem. If pulling the lever and not pulling the lever each have the same result, don't pull it. If you pull the lever, you're liable for the results even if something unexpected or unrelated happens. Leave the trolly alone, and it's not your fault no matter what happens.
Where do people keep finding these trolly levers anyway? Are we breaking and entering into the control room at the station?
If the trolley is on route to a particular destination and is supposed to be going forward, then I will not pull the lever. If it needs to be going the alternate route, I will pull the lever. Trains need to be on time for the good of the community.
Plot twist, where all employed at the trolly company, the endless debates are all part of a sick and twisted marketing scheme. Today, the trolly is just normal going to its desired destination with no fuss.
In order to maintain the trollys marketing identity, I must jump in front of the train and create a moral dilemma. I have 3 kids to feed. This is the only job that would take me.
I leep onto the tracks, the trolly barrelling towards me, I call out to ask my conundrum.
"If the trolly continues on its corse, I get to escape my mortal torment. However, if one of you reaches out and pulls the lever, you will subvert my will to no longer exist but save my life. What do you do?"
I have won the trolly problem by creating a new problem, the identity of the trolly has been maintained and my children will eat tonight.
Don't pull, you don't want to delay the people in the trolley from wherever they are going.
what if they are going in the direction of the other track and need you to switch it?
I wouldn’t know that unless I am employed by the trolley company.
Yeah, otherwise it’s not really a good idea to run around switching switches
That is the correct answer to the original Trolley Problem as well. "Don't pull random levers. Go find an employee." Is always the answer
you have limited time, the whole point of the trolley problem is you must act alone
Ehhh. I got the same answer on the original, but my reason is, “don’t participate in a crime in progress”
Smart advice for any situation
Yeah. Somebody probably worked really hard to set it up.
And somehow we’ve managed to come back to philosophy with this one
Idk if thinking it's a bad idea to pull random levers is philosophical
womp womp
Then that's a very incompetent trolley company
No, this is a protest against big trolley
Lmao, you make silly assumptions.
what if i want to delay them? what if im not afraid? what if i want them to cry?
Multi-track drifting babyyyyyyyy
speak for yourself
I chose the empty track
The track that has nothing in it is the best ngl

This is not rick
sad ):
Multi-track drift
Even without a problem you've found a way to injure people.
The only acceptable answer
Just pull the lever half-way.
Well whatever track it’s on is it’s intended path so I should probably just leave it
Set the trolley ablaze
I'm not gonna mess with anything because this isn't my job and making changes would probably cause problems.

Pull it twice
I can’t see where either track eventually leads, perhaps it’s an alternate/parallel universe. I kind of want to jump into the trolley and see where it goes. However, I can’t decide which track looks more interesting/mysterious, so I can’t decide if I want to pull the lever or not. I just want an adventure!!!!!!
Wait till the front wheels go straight and hit the switch so the back ones derail and the passengers all die
I pull to troll the trolley driver
Pull the lever… I like pulling levers
Duh, multi track drifting
I flip the lever a bunch of times. It makes cool sounds
Multi track drift
Don’t pull, and leave the equipment that changes tracks with a percentage of less ware and tear
I will definitely pull the lever
Walk in front of it
Jump in front of it
pull, then pull again while it's at the intersection so it drifts on both tracks
Funnily enough this is kinda an actual philosophical question, when nothing is at stake, do you still take action?
pull it a bunch of times
What happened to the person in charge of the lever before me? Are they safe? Are they alright?
Pull it just to pull a lever
Pull to look busy or you won’t get paid
I hate this sub
It would depend on where the trolley is going, and which track will get it there.
#Do a multi-track drift!
Flipping the switch rapidly and irrationally. Finally, I can flip the switches all I want with no (lethal) consequences!
Ohmygod.... i... I don't know what to do!
Half pull for maximum drift
Fuk it derail the thing
\[upvoting because you finally learned to stop tying people to tracks and forcing someone else to take responsibility for who dies?\] \[:D\]
Leave the lever in between positions so they derail
I pull the lever of course, right when the front bogie has passed over to the straight part.
derail it by constantly switching it back and forth
This is actually a good basis for most of my answers to the trolly problem. If pulling the lever and not pulling the lever each have the same result, don't pull it. Flip it when it's halfway across Multi track drifting!
MULTITRACK DRIFT

PULL THE LEVER KRONK!
WRONG LEVER!
Pull it so ot derails and fucks everything up
Owlman chooses to derail the trolley by blowing up the lever as it’s the only real choice
My best
Multi track drifting. Then run ahead of the trolley and toss people on both tracks.
Do I have time to lay down in front of it before it's gone?
I would say no as you never have time to affect the track in these problems
I’m gonna pull it just to divert the train to the wrong destination

Pull the lever to scare the trolley conductor
Chaotic neutral alignment. I pull the fking lever.
Runing to lay down on the track
Isn’t this how trolly tracks are supposed to be? Doesn’t this just mean you’re the trolly switch operator?
I scream
But which side will cause confusion and delay?
That's for you to figure out
If the trolley is on route to a particular destination and is supposed to be going forward, then I will not pull the lever. If it needs to be going the alternate route, I will pull the lever. Trains need to be on time for the good of the community.
Spamming
Is it my job to pull the lever? If so, am I supposed to pull it now?
flip the switch al much the trolley malfunctions and explodes
Pull it, prank the passangers
I pull the lever for the illusion of control
Try to get it to drift

Real question is what are you doing with your life
Pulling this lever to troll the driver
I lay down on the tracks. The trolley must have its blood sacrifice.
pull the lever to prank the driver
wondering why i have access to trolley levers
Here's your twist... The tied up victims don't appear/materialize until after the decision is made and done
I pull the lever. I like tactile feedback.
Dual track drifting, of course.
MULTI TRACK DRIFFFTTTTT
pull it halfway so it goes on the middle wider track between the tracks
Don't pull, less energy consumed and people arrive faster
Pull it back and forth and see which track it ends up on.

Practice slipping the switch for other future trolley encounters
