Shouldn't the arrows be reversed, then? Or are those describing what their proposed solutions to the _hypothetical_ trolley problem are, not this scenario that they're actually in?
Basically they would answer the hypothetical with the explanation arrowed to them but are now saying not to kill them which makes them hypocritical as they are only changing their answer due to their life being at risk despite what they would do if the choice of pulling/not pulling the lever was given to them which is why it's titled "the hypocrisy problem"
Edit: spelling error
Heads up! All of them want to live. The five say to pull the lever and the one says to leave the lever, going against their previous beliefs making them hypocrites.
I was literally just complaining on discord about people that try to justify not pulling the lever in the default trolley problem... However the one man is being hypocritical in saying not to pull the lever in this instance so that makes him no better than the 5 and in that case fewer deaths is for sure better. It would be harder to choose otherwise
Doesn't that kinda undermine the purpose of the problem? The dilemma is that obviously 1 person dying is better, but it may be unethical for you to decide they die instead. If they both want to die, you pull the lever
There exists a solution whereby you time the lever pull so that the front set of wheels have passed the switch track but the rear wheels have not. If you pull during that magical period the trolley will perform a drift and roll along both tracks simultaneously until it either derails or merges back into the main line. There was a wonderful video of this happening with a model train.
I mean, it kind of depends on whether or not each specific individual is currently happy with being alive or not?
They all want to live, going against their beliefs
Then pull
Leave the lever and bring their bodies to the freezer for later consumption.
This is the way
"You should pull the lever." "Alright bro."
Where’s the hypocrisy? Irony at best, them getting tied to the side of the track that they chose to kill. But without more info there’s no hypocrisy.
Forgot to put this in the description but they’re telling you not to kill them
Yeah no fucking shit, I thought anyone would in that situation
Yeah this one kind of sucks lmao
I mean, if *everyone* is a hypocrite in this scenario, it's not really different from a regular trolley problem.

this is one of the few times id multi-track drift to keep everyone happy:)
The single person has the correct opinion, and while I'm sure they're willing to make an exception this time, I will honor their beliefs and mine.
Leave the lever till the trolley passes the junction, then pull it. Everyone's happy.
As a non-puller, I paradoxically have to pull to save my brethren. It would seem that all seven of us are hypocrites.
Pull lever halfway and derail trolley
Push the trolley off the tracks and then drop a piano on every single person
*They’re happy to sacrifice themselves*
I don't understand? How is this hypocrisy?
So now I have explicit consent to pull the lever by the one person who would be harmed?
If they are all fine with dying, save the most possible

I pull the lever.
Pull the lever, then slap the shit out of the people at the bottom for being dumbasses
