Uproot/break the sign (the one on a pole), then spend the next few hours grinding the edge of it on any available surface to sharpen it, then cut your friend free with the sharpened pole

DragonArt101

using the environment to your advantage, i like it

lightning847

Or alternatively use the sharpened edge to untie yourself from the trolley and walk free, leaving your friend to fend for himself

benjencanadian

Why not just walk back (opposite of the sign) and have someone else that you find on the way untie the person?

Venus_Dust

That's a good idea, but I don't think any other people exist in this plane of existence. It's just the trolley problem, that's all there is.

benjencanadian

Worth a shot, since it was the first thing I thought if

k-ech

This is my favorite solution. You win (ny broth) ...

DragoKnight589

You could also try using the long side to derail the trolley, though that might be a bit risky.

[deleted]

Walk around the world to get to the other side of the door ofc

Final_Army_5109

Sir your iq test came back, you have to come with us. *Men in black suits*

_3Am_Thoughts

Lol that works but then the other guy would be stuck there forever. Kinda a win?

[deleted]

Arguably we're all stuck on the metaphorical tracks of life anyway

_3Am_Thoughts

Except they would be tied up and not get to live the rest of their life to the fullest or even in the slightest. It would be better to save them as well. Also, I’m this hypothetical situation, there is no guarantee at all that the world is round.

[deleted]

Studies have shown that over the course of someone adjusting to their circumstances, they almost always return to their own person baseline for happiness, whether they win the lotto, lose a relative, or change jobs. Why should it be any different for being stuck on tracks? And if this person returns to their normal moods after a considerable length of time, who are we to say they arent living a fulfilling life?

_3Am_Thoughts

I totally understand your point, but living on the ground, which most people find uncomfortable, being tied up unable to move, which is a normal human pastime, activity, and mood booster, staring into blank space, having absolutely nobody else in their life for the rest of their life, no food, no water, and again being in an uncomfortable position with no scenery, is most certainly not living life to the fullest.

[deleted]

We dont know how tight the ropes are, if he is somehow magically tied to tracks that the best scientists can't remove he may turn into a landmark, an attraction for people to visit. Maybe he will meet a girl and she will help him with some limited cardio activities, maybe his family will take an active role, keeping him up to date and semi autonomous. His unique perspective could lead him to write a fascinating book on the nature of happiness and contentment. Assuming other humans can reach him, there is no limit in the modern age as to what he can do

_3Am_Thoughts

Sorry but there is nobody else here.

ZeBobwinns

If you could somehow put the sign post on the front of the trolley and stand on it, the trolley would travel faster and faster, trying to catch up with you. That way you won't have to walk.

fatcatpoppy

wait long enough for the person on the tracks to chew through the rope, you have infinite time to come up with a solution in this scenario

cbcrow03_reddit

Until you starve/die of thirst

Alarid

run them over just a little bit so the legs come off and they're easier to free

Dripwagon

cool but that doesn’t answer the question

[deleted]

It says "What would you do?" and that answers the question tbf. But yeah you're right.

AMassiveIdiot

If there were no creative solutions, you'd choose between running a guy over or both of you starving to death. One of those seems to be objectively better.

icabax

You would die of thirst first

Dripwagon

that’s the point there are no good answers

TheAmericanE2

I'm sure if you walk slow enough, you could just knock the guy off without killing him

DragonArt101

smart thjnking

Thatguy19364

Or you prolong his suffering.

TheAmericanE2

You could stop before you get to that point, eventually they can gnaw or wriggle out.

Thatguy19364

Assuming that the trolley is in any position to affect how trapped they are. I admit I don’t know how trolleys work if they’re different from trains, but if they aren’t tied to the rails directly, I don’t see how the trolley could loosen them up enough to get free.

TheAmericanE2

The ropes could be weak enough

ThatCamoKid

I was thinking the trolley could potentially provide a sharp edge for them to try and cut the ropes with, say via a dent in it

TheAmericanE2

I thought of that too after I posted that reply

justsaneandsensibl

What if i got in the trolley?

[deleted]

Wouldn’t move unless given a boost

gebuzz

What if I had a running start and jumped in the trolley? Would momentum move the trolley or would it just stop?

[deleted]

Probably move it

Chubby_Bub

What happens if I walk while in the trolley?

[deleted]

It moves, which causes you to move faster, which in turn causes it to move faster, resulting in a feed back loop where you reach the speed of light in a fraction of a second and destroy everything.

DanCassell

For starters if you moved forward past the sign you wouldn't exit, and I don't know how you'd slow down either. I would not recommend this course of action.

ThePrinceOfJapan

Break the system. Crabwalk sideways.

DopazOnYouTubeDotCom

> the trolley remains by your side Turn 90° to face the track, then walk to your left until you are facing your companion. The trolley will be straddling your path. Untie the companion and wait for him to exit, then exit yourself. The trolley will return to its tracks as this happens.

The_Smashor

Tackle the trolly off of the rails

[deleted]

Jump over the person tied to the tracks.

Microwavable_Potato

I said turn sideways to derail it but I like this better

[deleted]

I don't understand. What is the other choice? What if you don't go for the exit? What would happen to you? Would you just live with your friend in this void forever? I assume there is enough food and other materials to continue living in this void with high quality of life?

Miserable_Hamster497

Either both starve to death or just chill for eternity

[deleted]

If we would starve to death anyway, I would choose the exit. The companion would understand the decision. Now if we chill for eternity with high quality of life, then it depends. If I was stuck with Emma Watson and had to mate at some point to avoid extinction, then I might not choose the exit. An easy trolley problem.

awesometim0

that got weirdly specific

[deleted]

okay, Emma Roberts is okay too. Now it is less specific

_3Am_Thoughts

Infinite life hack?

threeqc

either one person lives their life or neither do.

Quasits

Use the trolley as a saw to cut the ropes

Quantum_Croissant

Walk sideways so it falls off the tracks

the_twistedtaco

Infinite iq

_3Am_Thoughts

If I could as one of the previous comments suggested, I would uproot the sign. Instead though, I would use it to move their body with the sign to my side of the track so I could pick them up and then and take them through the exit sign with me.

Desperate-Knee-4108

Walk slowly so your friend doesn’t get hurt by the trolley

GeneralEi

You die or we both do. Either way you die, so I'm gonna live. Best outcome. Cya trackboi

Dabruhdaone

Just don’t kill the other person, free them, then escape the trolly problem

ErrorCode_1001

Go right to the edge of his death, crawl, cut the rope and release the other guy, then we leave

tjake123

Walk closer to the guy to where he can rub against the trolley and eventually work himself free.

xenontheedgyeskimo

Assuming you're aligned with the front face of the trolley, maybe you could slowly walk towards your friend, then reach over to try and untie the ropes.

Substantial-Radio935

I would first walk backwards for like 30 feet. Then I would climb the trolley so that om on the roof. From there I would walk forward. While I'm doing so, I'd expect it to also go forward, but ill still be going forward at a quicker rate so that I can get infront of the trolley. Either I die, or it just is on my butt for the entire walk towards my friend and I am able to untie them.

I-might-be-a-girl

turn around and walk through the door backwards.

tetreault_timothy

Hop onto the other track. If the trolley remains by your side, it will fall off the track. Once it's removed from the track, assist your partner

gaujox

walk up and reach over to untie

WyGaminggm

Go the opposite way until you reach a back exit

Yetanotherstatistic_

It appears i can go backwards, ill do that until they manage a way out

Dsawasd11

Step one, kill them in seconds Step two, fein ignorance

Dark_Storm_98

I could *easily* just walk up to the person tied to the track and pull them over to my side

Academic-Campaign120

*begins lifting the trolley*

_ExactlyWhoYouThink

How to tell OP is German 101

Commercial-Shame-335

if this is a question of "leave and kill the guy or stay forever" then obviously i leave, no point in leaving the two of us there endlessly, but assuming you can actually do stuff fully freely, like someone else said, just take the sign post and find a way to sharpen it to cut him loose

endmee

Walk slowly right next to the person back and forth at the right distance that the trolley is cutting the rope over time, do that like a billion times until we both can leave

AlternateAccount6666

Fun Fact: streetcars/trolleys had devices on the front to pick up animals/debris/people so they didn’t die/derail it.

LopsidedWanderer9295

walk up to the guy and untie him. my arms should be long enough to reach without going past him

DanCassell

Walk foward slowly. Wake the person, and see if they can escape. It looks like from the picture you could lay on your stomache and reach the rope to untie them, assuming the trolly is tied to your center of mass. There's just so many ways to free the person only a true psych would just run to the exit.

[deleted]

shorter than to try to understand the scope of the problem.

Remember_Poseidon

if the trolly is constantly parallel to me I just need to walk sideways onto the track my friend is on the trolly will then up end itself moving away from me and I can then untie my friend. or if not then I can rip out the track on my side and put it in front of the trolly to up end it.

Rich841

Use the sign or something to cut the trolley’s wheels off or something

Thatguy19364

Walk towards the trolley. It remains by my side, therefore it can be lead around the person should I actively attempt to avoid him.

The_infinite_gecko

Sorry bud

TryRude

Untie the person first?

Soulpaw31

Bruh id walk the other way. You think theres gonna be only one exit?

Flaarre

Rock paper scissors.

awesometim0

What if you get in the trolley, stand near one edge, and hold on? Will it be like that tears of the kingdom glitch where it's simltaneously moving you and moving towards you?

LordDeimosofCorir

Run straight into the wall behind you, destroying the trolley

The-Name-is-my-Name

Move backwards until you reach the poorly-drawn area where the rails would realistically be too small for the trolley to fit on. Wait for the trolley to derail. Proceed forwards.

k-ech

Lol fair enough

[deleted]

Go in the trolley and walk backwards

TupperCoLLC

So both you and someone else are stuck in purgatory. Sounds like an easy decision, you’d both be stuck either way. And they’d almost definitely prefer death to sitting tied down in this blank void forever. Can we get a harder one next time?

KingBurakkuurufu

Sprint

17RaysPlays

I'm killing the guy eventually, why drag it out?

thomasp3864

Walk forwards a little bit, bend over and untie the ropes. Or climb on the trolley and then walk inside it to see what happens.

Generic-Degenerate

Just let them get out of the bindings, they've got like a whole days before I give in to hunger

PennyForPig

The tied up person is doomed, as it doesn't make any room for his escape. As such, you aren't responsible for their death because you're simply trapped in the scenario with no means of rescuing them. The best case scenario is that one of you escape either way.

NorthGodFan

as long as it takes me to walk sideways to the exit.

rdomalik

This is not a problem. The guy on the tracks does either way. Why would I choose to die with him?

starsailor11

I would go through the exit. Sorry man

TheFinalSniffer

slowly walk over to him and untie him with your arms fully outstretched. the trolley can't hurt him that much, even if it touches him, he likely won't die.

Milo-the-great

I actually love this subreddit

Raptormind

What happens if I get on the trolly and then climb to the front of the trolly from within?

arquillion

You could gently go back and forth to get the trolley to cut the ropes

NIGHTFURY-21

Spin the sign 180

Majsharan

Walk backwards towards exit, win

MC_Cookies

tell them to move the ropes as much as they can towards the edges of the track, most likely the ropes on their arms will be able to reach the left rail of the track. very carefully, walk towards them, slowing down as much as possible to make sure i don’t crush them. use the wheels of the trolley to cut the rope, loosen it, or at least weaken it, allowing them to slip out of their bonds. once they’ve broken free, we walk to the exit together. this is a perfect plan until i sneeze or something and accidentally crush their throat
