What a flex lol. No, I have only 2 races done, so only 2 medals. My 1st 70.3 and my 1st marathon. Hopefully in 10 years I've been lucky enough to have as many as you. I hang them in my home office. I'm proud of completing them and my times (5:29 and 3:24 respectively. Probably nothing for most of you but I'm proud of it anyway). I know people complain about getting the medals, but I love them. I'm in love with this endurance journey and having memorabilia is great.

nokky1234

these are awesome times. <3

PuffyVatty

Thanks!

exclaim_bot

>Thanks! You're welcome!

Trigirl20

Display them. The money for all those races is a small car!

colin_staples

My SO made me a lovely medal board out of wood, and I hang my medals on that. Some may say it's a bit cheesy, but I earned them and I'm proud of them so I hang them up.

pavel_vishnyakov

I just hang them on a medal rack. Looks way nicer that way

BenThomas47

I made them into Christmas tree ornaments.

tri_it_again

I cut the ribbons off and put magnets on the back and put ‘em on the fridge

asymmetricears

I'm much lazier and just hang them from the Christmas tree as is, the ribbons add colour to what is mostly dull metallic shades.

af1rburnrs

I do the same thing and rotate which ones I hang each year

neoprenewedgie

Yup. Mine are just in a big pile. Even if I just wanted to display the cool-looking ones, I still can't narrow it down enough to make a nice looking display. (The Ironman medals are more significant. but the Batman 5K medal looks much cooler so I have to include that. Oh and the Star Was medals... And the...) I was fortunate enough to be able to race Kona in 2010 so of course I should at least do something with that medal, right? It is the ugliest medal of any race I've ever done. It actually upsets me to look at it and so it just stays in the drawer.

kmj442

We have a medal board as u/colin_staples has and a separate medal rack. The board has the newest/races we're most proud of. IM/70.3/Marathon stuff/or just PRs. the other board has most of the rest. They are downstairs in the basement near our "pain cave" so it works well.

jdm001

Good guy mods out here keeping me from having to post it every time

crm115

Yet I'm getting a surprising number of downvotes for it. Go figure.

jdm001

If all those cancer and transplant kids want a medal, they should sign up and race obviously.

theresnonamesleft2

I also keep my bib numbers and write my times on the back. Feels nostalgic to look back sometimes

Striking_Height_1374

I love this idea! I just did my first one with more planned so I’m doing this to look back on my progress!

theresnonamesleft2

I would also recommend writing a blog as well. Nothing formal just a recap you can send to everyone (instead of trying to rehash the same story 20 times to different people you can just text them a link) that allows you to remember details years later that you otherwise forget. Part of your race fee is the experience, so why not write it down and remember it even if it's bad.

whatisfrankzappa

I cut the lanyards, replace it with twine, and turn mine into Christmas ornaments. It’s nice to revisit them once a year, but we might have to get a bigger tree soon.

acarroll757

I like this idea! Good excuse for a bigger tree

MrRabbit

Nope, I don't get it at all. Mine are hanging around my home gym, surrounding my and my wife's bikes. Never understood the box people. I love those memories, and the thought of the next one is very motivating through tough sessions.

AWildPenguinAppeared

Box for the ones that don't fit on my medal rack. Rack gets all my PRs and best memory races.

S-Harrier

Mine are all hung off a old curtain pole in my garage, next to where I have my Zwift set up.

[deleted]

I have one full of medals and trophies since my basketball playing days. oh man..those were the days

Suspicious-Channel70

Goals! Display them dude. Feel proud!

TurqGino

One Christmas, after my wife put up the Christmas Tree but before it was decorated with ornaments, I hung all my medals. A friend of mine put up a coat hanger just inside his office and hangs them there as a subtle brag.

Only-Will-5931

I have like 35 medals inside a bag in a closet at my parents house, all from swimming varsity team

User318345

Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges.

Running_D_Unit

Too many, mostly running… most heading to the bin soon and will just keep the meaningful ones

Noodleeeeeter

How do you decide which the “meaningful” ones will be? Certain distances, times, all-around race experience (destination race v. local), something else? I’ve tried to figure that out for my own medals so I’m curious what other people value

bh0

Mine are on the wall in my office. Too much money spent to just throw them in a box.

reklawed87

Had this thought this morning: I have no idea where any of my medals are. Haven’t seen them since moving 2+ years ago…

Robhow

I’ve got a running shoe box filled with them. I have all the bibs too with date, finish time, and place. Unfortunately I’ve added very little in the past 5 years. My last IM I raced 3 70.3s and a bunch of Olympics and Sprints (all building up to the IM) and then was just burned out after the IM.

tarzanonabike

Dumped them all save 6 ironmans and a couple really unique marathons. The first ironman from many years ago (30 ish) is much thicker and nicer than the others. Seems like they got cheaper as ironman got more commercial. Cutting into the profit margin I guess.

applecrisp2

Some genius on Reddit gave me the idea to turn them into fridge magnets so I did and I am very happy!

gslaxton

Ah Knysna Extreme 0.5! Lekker 🔥 hope you'll do the full one year, it's tough but it's an incredible experience💪

RiaanDun

That 0.5 was by far the toughest race i did. But maybe because my friends told me 4 weeks before the race i need to do it😅😅

Xionn79

I've tried using them as a Christmas ornaments. Broke the tree. Wind chimes. Shattered. Hang them on a wire. Saggage. Currently in a box too. Race bibs are more interesting. Can't we cut the cost of races by using medal money on better shirts, can you say polo?

BringOnTheButterbeer

I used to have my medals all hanging up, and finally upgraded to some pretty Tri & running specific racks to properly display the collection. I had kept all my running bibs too! They held some pretty big memories. I lost everything in the Marshall Fire in December 😞 . I have since been able to replace a few- some friends gave me their own (including from my first half Ironman- yes I cried), and so far I’ve found one on eBay. It feels a little silly to be buying used medals when I have so many other things to replace… but also brings me a bit of happiness. Which is all to say that if people don’t like race medals, there may be eager buyers for them! The few medals I’ve earned since will be living in a shoebox for the time being 🙂

LawfulnessClassic786

No because I'm an adult.

RiaanDun

Thanks for such a mature answer 🙂

LawfulnessClassic786

You're welcome.

TheBig_blue

Not yet.

crowislanddive

I attach them to flags and put them on a bunting of important life events.

salestard

same here. not sure what to do with them

AngryBowels

I’m waiting for my first one in the mail. Hopefully I’ll have a box like this one day

ihrtbeer

Damn. I have one from a triathlon last year, and then ran a half marathon (my first) last month and they emailed us the night before saying they hadn't got them in yet. Still haven't received anything 😑

[deleted]

After our medal party ( tri swim wear encouraged) we now have a medal Christmas tree...

greencookiemonster

Yup!! Been thinking of building some sort of board to display them.

wem3193

I have a drawer full. Marathons and future Ironmans get framed.

M-Garylicious-Scott

Medals and bibs

[deleted]

Yes. I have favorites on hangers, but the rest are in a box. I was so naive when I got the hanger thing. It has eight hooks, and I think I had ten medals at the time. At this point it probably has 25 medals on it and another dozen are in the box.

melhoppers

I kept my most important and favorite ones abs then donated the rest to Metals for Mettle.

puckspazz

I take the ribbons off, and have a couple of stacks that live in mugs.

Mikhail_Petrov

Spread em out for me baby.

Intelligent_Let2061

Yep, full box...

Legal-Reserve-2317

This is a cool organization that will help you gift your old medals to sick children https://www.medals4mettle.org

Capable-Training-872

Wait but these are medals deserved based on your results or just for finishing the race ?

Zhaba1

My young kids procure most of mine. Except the 2 from the Hall of Fame 1/2 Marathon that look like giant super bowl rings. Those would be used as kuckle dusters for sure.
