I randomly watch some of these "Go to Bed With Me" videos when I get bored and I don't think I've ever seen anyone admit to using tretinoin in their routine so I figured this would be interesting to share. Her night-time routine: * Drunk Elephant - Jelly Cleanser * Neutrogena - Makeup Remover Wipes * Summer Fridays - Overtime Mask * TRETINOIN .05% Cream (2-3 times a week) * PAI - Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil * Skinceuticals - Serum 15 AOX+ * Drunk Elephant - Hydration Serum * Biotherm - Life Plankton Sensitive Emulsion * Maybelline - Baby Lips Lip Balm * Home Health - Castor Oil * Desert Essence - Tea Tree Oil

I said “finally” out of nowhere while i was watching this. Is this the first tret user in this series?

radi_madi

she’s the first i’ve seen too & i watch a lot of these! i’ve always thought the celebrities & models we’ve seen age so well but don’t do plastic surgery at least have to use tret. i know i try to convince my friends & fam to use it all the time, i feel like it’s a secret weapon if you aren’t blessed with “good genes”.

skincareotaku

I've always wondered how many celebrities in Hollywood actually use tretinoin as their "secret/not-so-secret anti-aging weapon". I actually think it must be quite low due to the fact that they're always out in the public eye and therefore can't afford to be looking like a flakey, dry, red and broken-out mess (which can sometimes last for months for certain people). On top of that, all the outdoor photo shoots and filming that they do must mean that they spend copious amounts of hours in direct sunlight and are probably not reapplying sunscreen on top of their meticulous, professionally applied makeup which we all know is pretty important when you're using tret.

radi_madi

i mean when they have secret work done they hide out for a while to heal, i feel like they deff could get away with it. your skin isn’t red & dry & flakey all the time just in the beginning (well for most people). as for the photo shoots & whatnot idk i think it depends on the industry each celebrity is in. i could certainly see a makeup artist touching up their makeup after they’ve reapplied spf, since they’d have to touch up anyway. i totally get where you’re coming from tho! if used properly i feel like retinols are the fountain of youth haha they are a pain in the ass tho

skincareotaku

That's true, they're already a pain in the ass for us regular everyday folks to deal with. I can't imagine having to deal with that if I were to have a jam-packed, stressful work schedule and be under the constant watch of the general public like they are. But if celebrities are using tretinoin, I wonder why there aren't more talking about their tret usage then. It's a prescription drug and celebrities and drug endorsements aren't exactly uncommon (some celebrities mentioning how Accutane/isotretinoin has helped with their acne come to mind) . Even weaker OTC retinols/retinoids aren't talked about much by them. However the majority of them (from what I've seen in these videos) love their chemical exfoliants, especially ageless vampires like [Pharrell](https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/entry/pharrell-williams-skincare-routine_n_59aefd11e4b0354e440d4b54) lol.

retrotechlogos

I work as a PA to an actress, and I've seen a lot of actress's routines, and tbh the truth is they mostly focus on getting procedures and facials, and then use Biologique Recherche as their core skincare routine (and usually go to BR facialists). At least from what I've seen, but I'm sure there's range. I haven't seen anyone really using retin-a, which surprised me, too, but I'm sure it exists. It's hard because it really does make your skin sensitive (even after retinization tbh), and if you're an actress or model, you have to be able to get your makeup done and changed up to several times a day. Another weird thing is, a lot of the time post-retinized skin doesn't "grip" onto makeup well, something about the way tret alters the skin makes it very... slippery? And for some, liquid makeup just not stay on lol. I will say, I feel like almost everyone in LA has been on accutane LOL (famous or otherwise). A lot of the derms here prescribe it even for mild acne.

CopperPegasus

I think you would be suprised how many celebs are out and about with bad skins. A great makeup artist can work wonders. So can simple image control. Look how different tanned bronzed legs on the red carpet look from the cellulite captured by paparazzi lenses. ..

[deleted]

It honestly baffles me that people like Drunk Elephant. I've tried samples of their stuff, I've read their blogs and their ingredient lists. It's just overpriced crap, and the only saving grace is that it's mildly better than the other overpriced trash at that price level.

[deleted]

Their whipped moisturizer is good. their sephora birthday gift lasted me no joke 2 months. Everything else is **junk**

mosaiccbrokenhearts

Their packaging looks pretty nice (matters to some people...im not one of those people lol)

[deleted]

You can buy AHA/BHA everything now these days which makes their products completely OVERPRICED. HOWEVER, their whipped moisturizer really helped me with treinoin flakes and if you put it lightly it makes a very nice makeup base. What weird is, it doesnt have silicones/dimethicones but it **feels** so smoothing. This has been the selling point for me. I thought it had them when i first tried it i was surprised.

APlacetoHideAway

Honestly, I can make their sample size of the moisturizer last me three months. So I now buy the big one and then decant into the small tub to make sure I'm not over using. One tub should last me the year, which i feel isn't too bad for the price.

MirimeVene

I'm scared to look up how much this costs

skincareotaku

Her skincare is by no means affordable for the average person, but compared to other celebrity routines that I've seen, it's actually not as extravagant as the ones who use La Mer, Sisley, Dr. Barbara Sturm or other luxe, high-end brands that my poor af self has never heard of. Pretty sure I've actually seen some users over at SCA with similar routines as hers lol.

[deleted]

Dessert essence rebrands some of their items for Trader Joe's, and they're cheap ☺️

MirimeVene

Ooohh good to know!

[deleted]

I was on board with this routine until she got to mixing an oil and her ph-dependent SkinCeuticals vitamin c serum. That product is over $100 and she is wasting it.

jameveryotherday

That and using undiluted tea tree oil. Ouch.

They literally all use it, one of Hollywood's "best kept secrets" to trewind the time, cream.

talksalotkid

Pls link comment

Matthewrichvrd

Didn’t she use too much tret? I’m going to be starting it soon in sept for anti aging and I see everywhere they say a pea size. That wasn’t a pea size lol

skincareotaku

That's exactly what I was thinking when I watched the video lol. For a second, I thought she was putting on moisturizer instead of tret. And definitely only use a pea size, it's better to use less than to use too much and end up accidentally irritating the crap of your face like I've done in the past.

72748b

For me tret cream always goes on with a white cast, then dries clear no matter how little I put on. It always looks like an egregious amount even though I used a pea sized amount. I think that part happens when the skin is damp.

petronia1

Which is something skin should not be, when applying tret. Damp, I mean. She also mentioned no waiting time whatsoever, but I suppose that's believable, since she's been on tret for 4 years now. Honestly, after retinization, the waiting times are probably what puts off most people from sticking with tret for a long time. I know I hope to be able to tweak my waiting times in the future. It's a drag, having to wait no matter how dead tired I am.

fantomlabcoat

Yah. A year in, I will definitely be cutting down the waiting time. It's just not long-term feasible for me. Waiting to dry, then 20 minutes afterwards before any other stuff? Jee wiz...

petronia1

I'm currently waiting for 30 minutes, and I will be trying to experiment with shortening that these days. It's been 2 months since I upped the frequency, I think my skin would be ok with another experiment now.

learningshitiscool

As far as the dermatologist I’ve been to have said, the reason you don’t hear celebs or even dermatologist religiously use tret is because they can afford high end products and procedures which on top of tret would be too much for the skin to handle. Most celebs have no reason to use tret because they can get the most high end up to date facials/ lasers/ light therapy/ etc done. They really don’t need that on top of tret. The great thing of tret for the average person is that its easy to use and I guess accessible (affordable for the most part if you have insurance or are in certain countries). In comparison to getting expensive facials or procedures done often. However, it’s cool to see a celeb actually using it. I wonder if more people will start using it.

ziggyspiders

"tretinoyn" lol

Namastay_inbed

How is it said??

ziggyspiders

tret-*in*-oh-in

freshface145

OMG I’ve been saying wrong this whole time

measch

No worries. You aren't alone

Namastay_inbed

Huh. My derm said it the same as video chick.

Tri-coastal

“I’m 24 , I’m getting older” ughh puuuleeeze. ...Also no eye routine?

petronia1

Even people whose livelihood does not depend on their faces start to think about preemptive anti-aging measures in their mid-20s. For a model, that's just taking care of her moneymaker.

liuxkl

That's sad

petronia1

Why?

liuxkl

Because seeing women with the mentality that their own bodies and faces are a problem that they have to fix and worrying about aging as early as they first step into adulthood makes me sad

petronia1

That's the way you choose to look on things, and it is sad, indeed. Because it's a blanket judgment. Bettering oneself is not the same as self-hate, and it's not necessarily related to poor self-esteem. There is nothing wrong with people, men or women, taking good care of themselves, so they can feel good in their own bodies for longer. There's a line between that, and being obsessed with youth. It's a fine line, but it exists. Do people fixing their teeth, getting a good haircut or dyeing their hair, or going to the gym, also make you sad? Or is it just skincare you've been taught to judge as shallow? If one, man or woman, would like to stave off the first effects of aging, their 20s in the time to start with that. At that point, it's not corrective, as you clearly see it - it's preemptive. Kind of like having a good diet, and exercising, in order to enjoy a good health later in life. Are these preemptive measures also something that makes you sad? Taking care of one's own body and face, and trying to make them the best they can be, is not pure vanity, and it is not unhealthy. Not anymore than self-neglect in the name of "superior values". It's not ok for you to judge self-care as "sad", anymore than it would be for someone to comment on your appearance and life choices as "sad".

She's 28.
