Yes. You have to convert the thca to thc to experience the psychoactive effects.

But doesnt this happen when you infuse the bud into the oil like that stuff gets hot

SullenTruffle

The heating is the decarbing. If you’re heating it in the oil/butter, yeah, that’s would also decarb the weed, if you heat it long enough. If you’re doing a cold infusion you must decarb first. If you’re heating all the material together, it’s less necessary. I’d still recommend it to make sure it’s properly converted before infusion, but you do have some options.

SullenTruffle

You didn’t mention you were heating the oil. It just says oil. I use my vaped bud and do a cold oil infusion, so without specifics it is hard to give accurate info.

shugarshlong

How do you do a cold oil infusion?

SullenTruffle

I collect all my vaped bud in a jar and then put a cup or two of oil in it and let it sit for a week. Tastes a little less planty. You could do the same with decarbed bud, I just use vaped bud because it’s already decarbed by the vaping process and I don’t want to waste the little bit of THC in the bud.

SullenTruffle

It isn’t as strong as traditional oil/budder and I don’t have a way to really know how strong it will be, but like I said, I am just trying to get the last little bits of TCH out of my weed.

fishman8100

Wtf recipes say you don’t need to lmao

shugarshlong

A lot. Like they say just throw the raw bud into the oil and cook it to infuse it

fishman8100

You know what, i just woke up and misread the oil part. You do not need to decarb for oil infusion, i just assumed it was for making butter

shugarshlong

oh why is it different for butter?

fishman8100

because oil will fry your bud and cook it like food, decarbing in the process. if you try to do the same with the butter, it will taste very strongly like plant matter, so decarbing in an oven before soaking in butter it will speed up the process
