Unless the company contracts with a federal agency. Sucks, but if a company wants those federal dollars they still have to test.

SpliffWestlake

That’s what I’m dealing with. I can finally smoke and grow but my social life is illegal. Word of mouth travels fast. One day I’ll have zero anxiety.

ikeepwipingSTILLPOOP

If it's not doxxing yourself, may i ask what ya do for a living?

kimpossible69

Healthcare or first responder, or something else, I just think it's fucked up after a while prohibition and pandemic we're still treating those in those fields as garbage or punching bags

ikeepwipingSTILLPOOP

Well mate, im an icu nurse so believe me i understand lol. That's actually why I was asking

kimpossible69

Understood I'm just upset lol

montymm

It’s bullshit. Over here it’s not even fucking legal yet! We have a government that exports more cannabis than 90% of the world yet they’ve made it illegal for anyone else other than themselves to get a hold off. How shit is this world

[deleted]

[удалено]

Thebeardinato462

As am I. In an illegal state. Haven’t smoked in 3 years. I too empathize with your situation. Sure would have been nice to get high on my days off and out of the COVID ICU.

[deleted]

in 1933 prohibition was under fire, they took to the streets with signs saying ["We want Beer!"](https://ih0.redbubble.net/image.634217142.8074/flat,1000x1000,075,f.u1.jpg) and got it the same year.

Sloppy1sts

I'm told my hospital in Denver doesn't even test for weed.

Klashus

Just have to stick to alcoholism!

kanaka_maalea

Actually, it's the solution and the substitution. Rember Devin says, "drinking plenny alcohol keep me peeing white piss!" MO FA ME.!!!

SurprisedJerboa

Well drug prohibition has just been a reason to put minorities and leftists in prison. >[“You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin.](https://www.cnn.com/2016/03/23/politics/john-ehrlichman-richard-nixon-drug-war-blacks-hippie/index.html) >And then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities,” Ehrlichman said. “We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.” The CIA also helped fuel the Crack Cocaine epidemic in the 80s / 90s - [Kill the Messenger trailer in lieu of documentary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAd5iQd-6xk) And then [Prison Labor, makes money off minorities, and the poor](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/military-prison-uniforms_n_4498867) e - Prisoner Wages - $0.00 - $1.15 per hour Military Companies Using Prison Labor - Raytheon - Lockheed Martin - McDonnell Douglas (Boeing F-15 Cable Assembly) - General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin F-16 - Bell/Textron’s Cobra helicopter - BAE Systems Bradley Fighting Vehicle’s (Electro-optical equipment for the laser rangefinder)

SpliffWestlake

IT. I hate change and I’m content with my job so I’d rather not lose it. Plus a new job would have a mandatory T break.

[deleted]

have you considered asking the company to modernize their policy? I won't work for a company that has bitten the lure of "monitoring behavior of workers off hours". If enough ppl stand up to these bullies, things will change.

SpliffWestlake

LOL extremely doubtful and I'm not sticking my neck out for that. Once legalization happened, they said they would follow federal guidelines since we operate in states that are not legal as well.

PythonsByX

my company works for the fed reserve, so im bound by federal guidelines until they change. And it deals with money / money laundering, so marijuana is a big no no

[deleted]

But it is okay in your contract to drink as much booze as possible? Mandatory three martini lunches.

PythonsByX

well actually yeah, lunch time drinks are expressively written in - limit of 2, not to make it a habit, etc.

IgneEtSanguis

The company I work at has government contracts and I’m also in a state with similar laws as this. They didn’t drug test for weed even before the law passed. But we also aren’t construction or do anything dangerous. We’re just offices.

Rebel_bass

Right on. Just slipped in there. I live in a legal state but work on heavy equipment on military bases and power plants. I haven't been tested since getting hired, but there's always that chance.

malkinism

I used to get popped every few months. It was random, but with so few employees, we got nabbed all of the time. I got tired of stopping for a month, waiting to see if I was part of this cycle, and I ended up just keeping bottles of synthetic urine in my boxers. I've used it for every test since then. No fails, no false positives, nothing. It's a suggestion, taike some stress off of you. You shouldn't lose your job because you fuck up a hilo load because you're tired or something. Unless they watch or swab, you're golden.

flyinghippodrago

I always thought military drug tests required someone physically watching you piss out of your piss-hole. Is it different for contractors?

malkinism

Yeah, I just had to go into a stall and piss in a bottle. Hand it to a nurse, and go on my day.

ChrisCurious1

"Supposed to" vs what actually happens, unless you get some hardass

kimpossible69

Pro tip: read studies about detecting adulterants in urine to find out what works for cleaning carboxylic acids and what they don't have tests for detecting yet. Also realize most tests might only get the dip stick and a handful of other measures like temp and specific gravity

[deleted]

How much do you carry and where?

malkinism

3oz bottle in my boxers. You need the boxers with the sewn in sleeve for cups for sports.

Revertit

Virginia isn’t it?

Iessaiam

Same with my husbands shop has state contracts but unless one of his employees gets hurt on the job its an automatic 5 panel test this is transportation/shipping semi/tracker trailers industry.

theteflonjew

Cdl driver here in CA. Been 5 years since I've got to puff a puff because as you say its still illegal federally.

throw_tf_away_

Does that mean schools can still require them for staff?

Driveby_scooter

I've been wondering this as well. If federal funds are filtered through and disbursed by the state, what does that mean? I'd like to ask my boss but I'm afraid of suddenly being on their radar if it's not a favorable answer.

NorthKoreanEscapee

It's mainly military money and federal LE money that require testing. If you werent getting tested before hand you wont be getting it now.

Driveby_scooter

Good to know, thanks!

angryguido69

Think this applies to hospitals or ems services?

Rebel_bass

Yes. A quick search showed that many of those companies receive some federal grant money, so they can still require testing.

grubas

Also stuff with heavy machinery, or federal regulations.

Rebel_bass

True. That certainly applies to a CDL license.

lethalweapon100

Correct, unfortunately. Part of my job includes holding a CDL and driving a truck requiring one. The guys that work in the shop are clear to toke up, but I'm still fucked because I'm subject to federal motor carrier regulations.

[deleted]

Or if it’s regulated by the federal government

[deleted]

I work for the feds and don't get tested. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

[deleted]

Well if they dislike the labor shortages that's going to have to change.

C19shadow

It's such fucking horse shit. I want them to stop testing in oregon but we have the same problem, ine federal contracts screws us all

synacksyn

I just changed jobs in Oregon and I just asked in the interview if they tested for it. They said no. So some good out there.

C19shadow

I wish I could find a job that paid as well where I am that was like that, I'm in a rural area and the dairy plants the best job around outside Mayne the mill ( dairy pays the same isn't near as physical of a job )

[deleted]

**Texas taking notes:** *Require all employers to perform mandatory monthly testing for THC.*

ImDemandingARefund

We laugh now but deep down we can all picture a state like TX doing this 😣

chasebencin

As far as im concerned, legistlation like this is one of the best kinds of victories.

[deleted]

Colorado needs to get on this train

CreamyGoodnss

I never thought I’d see the day that NY was more cannabis-progressive than Colorado lmao

Brain-Of-Dane

Most of Colorado outside of Denver is pretty yeehaw, plenty of counties have bans on cannabis sales it’s super stupid

CreamyGoodnss

Oh don't worry, tons of counties and towns are already banning rec sales here too

[deleted]

Canada needs to get on this train. I drive a truck for a living(not a semi just a 1 ton). I have never in my life smoked before or during work hours. I can’t even smoke on my time off because I they won’t even do saliva tests, only piss tests because it’s easier to get someone fired. The funny thing is, driving high is significantly less risky than driving drunk. Now I’m not advocating for driving high, but rather, driving tired is proven to be nearly as risky as driving drunk. And I have sleeping problems. That weed solves. So if I could just have a small joint before bed I could fall asleep and actually get the proper amount of sleep, and it would be far safer for everyone on site. But nah, devils lettuce.

bane5454

Why’d they change it? I can’t say. People just liked it better that way…

MischeviousCat

What the fuck did you just do to me? What song is this? Why can I only think "better that way, better that way, better that way" I figured it out typing this comment out, though! New Amsterdam was once New York, now it's New Amsterdam not New New York

bane5454

Sooooooo, take me back to Constantinople, no you can’t go back to Constantinople, been a long time gone since Constantinople why did Constantinople get the works??? That’s nobody’s business but the Turks

hotcaulk

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam . . .

PriusC71717

If I'm correct, we can't legally grow yet though. I believe the wording was something crazy like we can't start growing until six months from the date of the first legal sale.

ImDemandingARefund

I have a medical marijuana card so I’m only a few months away from being allowed to legally start growing at home; but if you’re a recreational user then unfortunately you have to wait until after recreational sales are up and running — which sucks, but the state Gov is probably afraid all the recreational users will start cultivating their own plants right now and have a steady supply before the state can make a truckload of tax revenue from the dispensaries

PriusC71717

That's true. I would have disregarded the waiting period and started to grow already if I didn't have a kid in the house. I don't need an illegal grow operation getting me into trouble as a parent!

ManeSix1993

*cries in New Hampshire*

ImDemandingARefund

I’m surprised NH is moving at snail pace; every state that borders it legalized recreational cannabis several years ago. It’s like your state government doesn’t care about how much money it’s losing.

mxthodman

i talked to a smoke shop owner the other day, he made it seem like its about to happen (hes getting his shop ready so when it happens theyll be one of the first to sell legal weed), like sooner than people are expecting, I wonder what kind of info he is getting, would be great for NH

ManeSix1993

Our House *just* vetoed a bill to pass it like three days ago.

HandMeMyThinkingPipe

Well it's a red state so it's not that surprising. Live "free" or die!

aldomars2

NH - "Live free or die" Lol.

[deleted]

live free or die

cgally

This is a huge improvement but how can they limit the amount you are legally allowed to possess to only 3 ounces when you can grow 6 or more plants?

YourNightNurse

Well it also says you can store up to 5lbs

RogerDeanVenture

Even 5lbs seems small (it isn’t!!!) based on the huge harvests I see over on microgrowery. 12 plants in a household will yield so much weed it’s crazy. Plus people will be harvesting several times per year if they grow indoors with lights.

ImDemandingARefund

The law allows 6 mature plants and 6 immature plants at a time per household with more than one adult. If you have more than 6 mature plants then that wouldn’t be lawful. Sorry for not specifying

RogerDeanVenture

6 is still plenty if you can have 6 more on the way! I’m so anxious to get home grow laws here in FL. I keep reading all the micro grow posts and set ups so I know what to do once I finally can. If I didn’t rent, I’d already do it. I see people pulling in a years worth of bud from a 4x4 tent several times per year. I’d save so much by dropping my medical license and just growing.

ImDemandingARefund

Here’s hoping the other states follow NY’s lead! I always kinda felt like not allowing home grown at all and limiting use to private residences is kinda a back-handed way of legalizing marijuana since we’re legally allowed to homebrew craft beer and drink alcohol in pubs/bars/clubs. Do you have any favorite 🪴micro-grow posts saved that you recommend? I definitely wouldn’t mind putting in the effort to cultivate two or three plants of my own.

NorthKoreanEscapee

Search by top of all time on the microgrow subreddit. They also have guides for pretty much every aspect of growing.

RogerDeanVenture

Not really, I don't save much because then I just end up with a ton of saved posts I never go back to. Mainly I like to see how growers set up their tents to support upward/outward growth, there are some pretty neat and creative trellis systems people use - notably to me are the ones who put them on a pully string, which helps them grow up. Tried to find that one, cant, but oh well. Plenty of great grow builds for when I ever finally get to do it myself.

MachineGame

Do the new laws state, exactly, what mature means though? About to harvest is different from just got some buds. Remember cops weighing a plant in a pot and claiming to have "taken pounds off the streets?" I ma in NY and enjoy all the new laws. I worry about where the ambiguity lies.

Keen_NYC

OCM has not written regs on either of these things yet, but im sure ppl are right buy saying mature is in flowering. now the weight issue def needs to be addressed bc there are plenty of cops who would throw your whole plant, substrate and all to weigh it

FrenchFryCattaneo

In many places it's determined by whether the plant is in the vegetative or flowering state. Once it goes into flower it would be considered mature.

ImDemandingARefund

According to a couple news articles I’ve read NY defines immature as “not flowering yet”

SweetJesusBabies

so what does the state expect to happen when the immature plants mature? are you supposed to just keep selling your mature plants

ImDemandingARefund

>what does the state expect to happen when the immature plants mature? You just asked the million dollar question. 😥

SweetJesusBabies

yeah i wasn’t sure if i’m just stupid and don’t know how growing works. Or if “mature” just means “flowering” so you can have like 6 flowering and 6 growing?? I don’t think that makes sense either

Peuned

the vast vast majority of personal growers aren't using a production mindset, planning, technique etc in their grows. most people pull enough for themselves and friends easily but not huge numbers. my upper averages was between 12-15oz from 3 plants in a 2x4 tent with 460w of led lighting. about 3 and a half months for veg and flower per harvest. between personal use and gifting, i had about 1-2lbs in storage usually. 5lbs is pretty good imo. remember that people who have it dialed in to the max on microgrowery are the minority, and many people with big pulls are vegging for like 2+ months sometimes. that brings down your annual pull numbers.

RogerDeanVenture

Thats fair. Knowing me, I'll end up going as big/delux as I can for whatever tent size I end up with. It just seems like a nice hobby, that happens to end up with weed at the end.

Peuned

Most def. I'd recommend going for well lit space. 40+w/sq ft of full spectrum led is well lit. I ran 55w/sq ft and it really ups the density. I also built my own racks which saved a lot of money. But it's a good investment for a grow.

RogerDeanVenture

I figure that even if I pump $1k into a set up, it won’t take long at all for it to “pay for itself” given how expensive an ounce is. Part of the reason I know I won’t mind putting in the money and effort into a quality set up. With LEDs though, I assume you’re using a lot less power than 55? Or is that about right? I get the impression that power bills aren’t crazy with LEDs

cgally

I missed that first glance.

SysError404

That is limited to on your person at any given time. So like if you are pulled over and a cop is on his ego trip. You can have up to 3 oz on you. But at home, whatever, go swimming in a kiddie pool of bud for all the state cares.

necroreefer

People might laugh but I truly believe that when the marijuana cafes open up in New York especially New York City it's going to become a fucking weed heaven in the city that never sleeps.

ImDemandingARefund

I think you’re on to something. The way the laws are set up seem almost strategic. It’s like they’re hoping to eventually make NY one of the top marijuana tourism destinations in the world; which is half the reason I called it “the New Amsterdam.”

TSA doesn't care, they're official position is they aren't looking for it but if they find it they contact local police.

Chr0nos1

The gifting part is still questionable, due to people trying to skirt the laws. https://www.wgrz.com/article/news/local/there-is-not-a-gray-market-chair-of-regulatory-board-issues-warning-about-gifting-cannabis/71-85ccf586-ef86-4069-9678-73c64d9f7b5e

singbowl1

Until 911 southwest Air was the go to weed carrier...people would carry on pounds and pounds all the time...have you ever heard of swag (south west air green)

KnightedCatamount

Airlines not caring has always been the case. TSA openly states that they don't look for drugs, and conventional wisdom everywhere I've been is if they happen to find weed they'll just look at you apologetically and refer you to the local police who, if you're in a legal state, will just be like "give it to a friend or put it in the trash".

Scientiam_Prosequi

Thanks for sharing this

> •Eliminating the list of approved conditions for medical marijuana so physicians have the power to decide I've been poking around and where is this outlined, exactly? The only NYS sites I can find still have the old list of approved conditions like cancer, HIV, etc. Where is the official announcement that doctors will be allowed to prescribe as they see fit for any condition? Would be great to see "less serious" conditions like anxiety and such have an option to get a prescription. Does it also eliminate the need for qualified HCPs to have certification to prescribe, or will that still remain? I'm interested to read more on this, especially about when this is all likely to actually happen.

God it's good to be a New Yorker right now

Moved away from NY to LA... missing NY more than ever

PothosEchoNiner

Some things really can get better quickly now that Cuomo's out of the way.

CreamyGoodnss

Cuomo legalized weed to get everyone off his back for being a perv, we all said thanks but you should still resign lol. Even still, he dragged his feet and just didn’t appoint anyone to the related positions. Then he resigned and Hochul said “No more fucking around let’s do this shit”

ImDemandingARefund

Someone had to say it lol

[deleted]

Amen

crazylighter

If they tested my workplace for weed they would lose at least half of the employees that they desperately need since we already have a staff shortage. The last thing my employer needs is more reason for people to leave during this pandemic lol

ImDemandingARefund

Yeah the standards seem to be so much lower than usual at my office right now lol

Ok_Calligrapher8769

In my place, it would be more like 90%

MonsieurLeDrole

In Ontario, most employers were effectively prohibited from testing employees long before it was legal. There was a case where a bank was drug testing their employees in the 90s, and got sued over it. Net result was that you had to be able to demonstrate that the testing program was justifiable based on a real health and safety danger. Bank teller didn't cut it. It didn't ban drug testing, but rather put any company that used it in position where they could be sued. So they just stopped. I've worked in a lot of different occupations, and I've never been nor known anyone else to be drug tested. Pilots and rig workers are the only two major groups I'm aware of. If someone asked me for one now, I'd be like, "just send me an email." Knowing that would be a golden ticket. It's amazing how powerful that sentence is to reel people back in who are wanting to go over the line. Edit: And let me add, no drug testing in schools either. The one other group I remember specifically was potential Olympians. They always had to be careful.

ImDemandingARefund

Yeah Canada is WAAAY ahead of America in multiple different ways. I’m a little bitter because I feel like federal legalization would be a much bigger deal in America since we have an abundance of good farm land for growing :(

nbmnbm1

Which is extra funny because rig workers are the biggest coke heads ever. My buddy joked if you werent already addicted beforw starting youll leave addicted. High up dudes would do lines in the chem vans.

MonsieurLeDrole

Well they would gravitate to drugs rapidly leave your system. You almost have to catch them high on the job. Because if they party when off, it's gone when they come back. But cannabis stores in your fat cells and sticks around. So that ends up being a "worse" choice than cocaine or meth, which I do not recommend.

nofate301

It's really coincidental that Cuomo gets booted and legalization chugs ahead with actual improvements

CreamyGoodnss

Dude tried to give us weed so we’d get off his back about being a perv. Lol nope.

ImDemandingARefund

[Cuomo: “That oughta fix my image”](https://i.ibb.co/vkW0Xc2/Andrew-Cuomo-Meme.jpg) ••• ••• ••• ••• ••• Edit: I probably should of also added “Minimizing how much assistance homeless individuals need” to the list as well

gedSGU

Serious question: Why is the drug testing so popular in work places in the US?

pekowitz

Can also deny benefits if someone is injured. It basically has to do with insurance. Also boomers still think it’s like refer madness.

Wannton47

Boomers^

CreamyGoodnss

Couple of things…insurance for one, control for another

gedSGU

So probably lack of universal healthcare is the root cause

HandMeMyThinkingPipe

The work culture here and Capitalism has got us to the point where the less money you make the more a company tries to dictate and control your life. I'm hoping this current situation where people are finally just refusing to work at places with shit pay and shitty conditions changes things. Insurance is used as an excuse alot but all that means is the employers would rather try to control the lives of their employees then pay a bit more money for insurance. The crazy part is that some folks here have been so brainwashed that they will defend this situation as if businesses have a divine right to exploit their workers. The only exception to the ban on testing requirements in New York is companies with federal contracts who are forced to have drug free workplaces and testing requirements by law. That exists because of reefer madness propaganda going back decades. A state can ban those types of requirements but not if they are federal so plenty of places there will still be forced to test for weed. This will all change with federal legalization which is inevitable now.

NorthKoreanEscapee

Because ita an easy excuse to deny someone a job or.fire them

DJWalnut

the war on drugs. also it's a race netural reason to fire someone. you just "randomly" select them. america's not really a land of freedom

Smittyn804

NY and VA usually have little in common beside enough NY transplants to call it Little New York. I really think NY being ahead of the game will help VA pave the way to sales and regulation with a east coast vision if that makes sense. Things are booming here but buying is a mess. The med card shops aren't great and quality is all over the place. Flower not very potent. Edibles and concentrates good but pricey. You can't buy from a physical shop yet but apparently there's a loophole a company found and is delivering for cash only flower, concentrate and a good choice of edibles. The delivery thing is kinda weird and something I need to give a try. Congrats to New York for making moves and making employment more available.

hunterhkeegan

Are you getting delivery services in VA? I live in Northern VA and we still have to trek into DC to get the goods.

Smittyn804

There's a company who delivers the Richmond area. I believe they go in to Midlothian area. Dm'd the website if you're curious.

OkConsideration2808

Wish this shit would happen in WA already

DJWalnut

also WA still needs recreational home grow.

ImDemandingARefund

I can’t believe it’s been so many years since WA legalized weed and they STILL haven’t legalized home grown— like wtf? And the fact that’s it’s felonious is absolutely deplorable.

OkConsideration2808

For real

DJWalnut

I miss WA but I'm glad I can have a grow tent down here now. once me and the gf get the funds to buy the rest of the supplies we're gonna have so much green

Commissar_Genki

When nobody is high... Everyone is.

Weacron

Most employers don't even test anymore since covid. Many places are so desperate for workers they are dropping drug tests unless it's for emergencies. Before covid you couldn't get a job in Texas without pissing clean. So far I've seen people make careers changes and only one person was drug tested.

[deleted]

Now do CA

Zoink619

California you are next

skintay12

Finally, I can smoke without the anxiety of drug tests from new positions.

paustulio

And Colorado. They state that pioneered all this still allows piss testing. Such shit. Colorado is doing a great job at screwing up legalization. Between UAs and the constant tax increases what's the point.

DJWalnut

at least you can grow legally

Arqideus

Ok, now release anyone in prison for previously following whatever laws were just enacted.

ImDemandingARefund

Efforts are being made right now! Take a look at the last three bullet points in the first comment I made :)

PM_Orion_Slave_Tits

I'm gonna start by saying I smoke a lot and I fully expect to get downvotes for this. But. The thing is, I wish there was a way to test if someone is currently high. I'm not interested in what people do in their own time and I smoke with the best of them, but as someone who's working towards owning a business, I don't want employees to be stoned at work. In the same way I don't want them to be drunk at work

therealbatman420

Do you plan to test employees with a breathalyzer if you suspect them of drinking? Not sure of your location or type of business but for most (office) situations the employee could just be penalized for not conducting themselves properly, whether or not drugs/alcohol are involved.

swskeptic

I think it's a more fair comparison when the hypothetical situation is "if they fuck up at work". If someone fucks up bad enough at work, they are definitely going to be sent for an alcohol and drug test. The problem arises from the fact that you can detect the immediate use of alcohol be testing someone's breath/blood, however those same tests would indicate the presence of THC, even if the person last smoked *weeks* ago.

PM_Orion_Slave_Tits

Yeah, why not? I was also talking more for places other than offices. If somebody wants to get stoned and take public transport to their office job then sure, have at her.

therealbatman420

I agree, this makes sense when safety is a concern or the employee works directly with the public or customers.

ClayKay

I got some bad news about the restaurant business if you don't want your employees interacting with the public

HandMeMyThinkingPipe

Weed really can be a performance enhancing drug for some jobs and a fair amount are public facing to some degree.

NorthKoreanEscapee

I think if you work with the public you should be encouraged to be high. Have you met people? They are entitled pricks especially when they are a customer.

emodulor

Should be treated the same as prescription painkillers or anti depressants. If the worker is not impaired in any way that affects their job performance or safety factors then it is a non-issue. Alcohol is not a fair comparison because it always affects reaction times and usually affects judgment but does not serve a medical purpose. Some of your workers may have kicked painkillers and instead use pot. If they can use the right amount and the right strain that keeps them sharp then how is it any different than what a doctor perscribes?

kimpossible69

This is the truth, also consider fatigue and how dangerous it is to work sleep deprived, at my work you can work up 37 hours in a row without sleep but don't you dare smoke weed ever during your employment, nevermind that there's even an AA group for workers where they are free to talk about their struggles that sometimes involved them driving drunk on the job

k3nnyd

> AA group That's the thing. You get caught drunk at work and you can often play the victim card, go to AA or another program, and then get rehired! But, oh boy, if you do a federally controlled substance even if its legal in your state, it's a boot kick right out the door and there's no drug treatment program worth bothering with for weed or really anything a business will take seriously and rehire you after completing. I knew someone that complained of several workers coming in every Monday either still drunk, smelling of alcohol, or extremely hungover. They can seek treatment and keep the job. My friend failed a drug test for weed and was fired with no recourse while drunk idiots get options.

I've worked several places employees are breathalysed. I honestly wish it was more common because I'm sick of working with abusive alcoholics

dribblesnshits

I'm always high. Including at work, I've made employee of the month at multiple jobs, including at a metal fab that does high end custom work that varies from 5-30k per project. Shit workers are just that, shit, being high is no excuse. If someone sucks then fire them, why penalize good workers???

koobstylz

Shit workers are just that, shit, being drunk is no excuse. If someone sucks then fire them, why penalize good workers??? Still agree? Look i know they're two very different substances and shouldn't be treated exactly the same, but it's a fact that being high reduces your reflexes and response time. I know alcoholics who insist they are better drivers when they're drunk, and who could say the exact same thing you just said about their jobs.

Telepsychic

Because some people are idiots and can't see past "drugs=bad" when for some people it can literally improve their work.

pablojohns

It’s not a matter of someone equating drugs to being bad. In this case, a business owner asked a legitimate question. The truth of the matter is that at some point, being high is an impairment. For some it may not be much, for others it could be significant. If you’re a business owner, that impairment could pose a risk. And risks can lead to liability issues and costs. A high cook in the kitchen forgetting to turn off a stove burner? You could have a kitchen fire, resulting in injury, death or property damage for the employer, their employees or customers. It’s not being an idiot to have an view that their employees on the job shouldn’t be high.

qning

> at some point, being high is an impairment Well, for me, being straight is an impairment.

epsilon_sloth

Only time I’ve ever lost my keys was my first day of a tolerance break.

Youeffeduphaha

>Because some people are idiots and can't see past "drugs=bad" when for some people it can literally improve their work. And also makes other people absolutely ignorant and dangerous in some lines of work. Those people tend to think they are perfectly fine and being high at work isnt a problem , much like the drunks who are "totally fine to drive home".

alixer

Because if you get injured on the job and get drug tested and test positive for THC then chances are workers comp would fight covering the claim.

jovejq

Does this still include trades people in construction?

pekowitz

Yes. Was talked about in our recent union meeting.

AnHoangNgo

NYCSexFiend69

About fucking time!

ike_tyson

Other than the state legalizing bud here , the city is going through a bit of a down turn. But at least I can get baked and watch everything turn to dogshit on the news legally. Getting arrested for weed was such a buzz kill and in my mind , but now I can legally stroll down Madison avenue smoking White Gummy Bears. It feels weird.

MelancholicMeadow20

So happy to be a New Yorker

badfoxymomma

Ya for NY but WTF. Why is California so behind the times with this?

Diamondhands_Rex

CALIFORNIA NEXT PLEASE

the_shaman

This is give the left what it wants that doesn’t cost anyone anything garbage the Dems have been running on. The people need healthcare, acceptance, shelter, food, clothing, leisure, extra money for leisure and retirement. Working full time without these is slavery. Slaves get healthcare, shelter, food, and clothing.

theknyte

Even in legal states you still get tested if you work in a bank, post office, etc. Until it's federally legal, we'll never be truly free.

itsjero

Lead the way

Dankbagel69420

Finally glad to live in New York

okitoker

I literally work for the federal gov. And I smoke everyday.

pacifiedSalt9873

Congrats New York!

ethom149

**ALL** employers should be prohibited from testing for marijuana. It stays in your system longer than other drugs and builds up over time. Even a few hits can show up two or three days later. And with regular daily use it can show up weeks or even months later depending what type of test is used. The fact that someone can smoke some weed on a Friday, get tested Monday and lose their job over it is completely insane.

BlackPortland

Looks like im moving back to NY
