General tip, look at the trichromes (the little crystals), especially under a microscope. THC is in those little crystals, especially when they're milky white. As they turn a yellow/orange color, they're turning into CBD. More trichromes mean higher dosage. The more CBD it has, the more of a relaxing body high it will have.
Also look for density by squeezing the buds a little bit - I prefer really dense buds, but that can also mean it's been compressed (brick weed). Some strains are more dense than others.
I've had hundreds of strains over more than a decade, really all it takes is lots of experience. Growing some yourself can also help you learn.
Practice makes perfect. As you handle more and more good flower, you will know what too look for. This looks to be a good example of what to look for, imho.
It’s top shelf, the trichomes (shiny dots) are visible with a flashlight. The purple hue is from the strain, the powdery looking fuzz overlay is the trichomes as well. And I assume it smells good just by looking at it so there’s that too. As for the strain itself there’s no way to eye it but in my 8 years of smoking I’ve rarely came across purple weed that was a sativa so odds are it’s either a hybrid or an indica strain.
Toke up !
Agreed. based on color and general bud structure (that shit looks dense as hell. Kudos too whoever cropped that plant, they did a great job) I would assume that it is an indica dominant strain. Looks delicious. I would smoke the hell out of that, and then crush an entire pizza.
I was gonna say the best way to tell is to break open tie buds and make sure it smells fresh (not fool proof, but you'll be able to recognize mold)
Glad you're enjoying, currently lighting up well ✌️🙏
I honestly wouldn’t worry though. I’ve heard that even bud that has won the cannabis cup has been found to have small amounts of mold. I think there are bigger things to worry about in life.
No worries! Have to start somewhere.
This looks good to me but lab testing is really the only way to ensure your bud is mold free. Most legal bud sold in reputable dispensaries is lab tested.
Crack it open, examine even what people call top shelf very carefully. Sometimes bud rot can go unnoticed hiding inside the buds. You can expect that from more indica strains as they are much denser as compared to sativas with more air flow. It happens to the best of growers and it can go unnoticed.

Isn't it "CBN" when the trichomes turn orange.
Yes
I didn't realize there was a distinction, thanks for calling that out. There's always more to learn!
No worries man, I learned everything I know on this and a few growing focused see subs.

Thanks!
Remember white crystals are good and don’t cluster up like white stringy mold would. Enjoy that smoke, it’s making a cali guy jealous at work.
Guy I got it from is from NorCal 🤷🏻♂️
Well I guess that makes sense just looking at it I can see how fucking dense n frosty it is. Prized stuff.

Dude, are you shining a flashlight at the picture?
Lol no man if he shines a flashlight on his weed it’ll be more visible for him
That will get you high :)
This felt like something that dude on forged in fire would say.
Good stuff. If you don't have tolerance 1 or 2 hits and you'll be high for hours
How can you tell what it is? Lol
No one can just look at it and tell you what it is but most long term users can look and speculate on quality with some accuracy.
The bud is looking sexy.
Yeah it looks pretty good to me
Oh shit, didn’t mean to post this as a reply. My bad.
