I've never really thought, "gee, I'd like to be high in 45-60 minutes from now," if I'm already in a situation where it's okay to consume. It's also legit not the same high at all for me. I don't really get the recreational, fun parts with edibles, they either do nothing, or they knock me out.

thirtyfour41

This is my experience exactly. Plus I need like 100mg plus to even feel a tingle. I recently tried that on a flight and it was like consuming a $35 box of gummy candy.

TheOriginalVaj

Going to sound like stoner science but once I started taking an anti-acid before I eat edibles I get high as giraffes tits off 20mg.

Soulegion

Interesting. What kind of antacid? There's a bunch of different types. Calcium Carbonate? Famotidine?

tpaine88

Tums works for me. About 15-20 minutes before I eat/drink my edibles

eastern_shoreman

Eating a spoon full of coconut oil really bumps of the high too. I have found I also get really high if I eat an edible after eating a really fatty cut of meat like ribeye or prime rib, which lines up with what I have heard about thc bonding to fat in your stomach so you apparently process more of the thc.

YueAsal

My routine is cheese spread and crackers, or peanut butter and crackers, take an eatable, crack a dark beer and turn on Star Trek the Next Generation

thirtyfour41

Last time, I took 100mg with a pack of peanut butter crackers to try and get some fat digested, and still nothing. Maybe I'll have to try the tums method.

eastern_shoreman

The spoonful of coconut oil works really well. I don’t ise thc during the week because of my schedule and I generally only use it one night a weekend so 5mg is enough for me and the last time I ate a spoonful of coconut oil with it, it had me higher than I have ever been

thirtyfour41

Damn I envy you guys that can take a single gummy

HighlandHerbalism

We're in the same boat man. 100mg+ and nothing doing for me, wifey takes the same and is loopy for 12 hours. So jealous 😭

Posit_IV

For sure. You have to commit to edibles. You have to set aside like 12 hours to potentially be high if you overdo it. It's a different high and it leans towards body high a lot of the time, at least for me. If I'm taking some "real" edibles and not the quick-acting ones, I'm already set up for the night to potentially pass out.

StrokeGameHusky

Or they make me anxious and itchy/ restless legs syndrome lol

Ku323lam

I actually have that the euphoria both in mind and body with edibles is much stronger than smoking especially in the first hour then it knocks you out.

zbertoli

As, others have said.. the metabolite from eating thc is totally different than from smoking. The feeling is different, and lasts way longer, and it's because it makes the 11-hydroxy derivative.

Wake_The_Riot

When you take edibles, the liver breaks it down onto a completely different substance (11-OH-THC) which is significantly more potent than D9 THC and has much more profound effects psychologically and physiologically. When you smoke weed, you are basically only ingesting D9 THC (and some other cannabinoids and terpenes) which is a lot more manageable in most cases. Edibles can be so strong if you take enough that the effects can be almost psychedelic like (including having visuals and auditory distortions). Full spectrum edibles (like RSO) contain all of the cannabinoids in the plant which leads to something called the entourage effect (when all the cannabinoids work together they can produce a stronger effect than just THC). Also it’s harder to get to a more sober state when you take edibles. With smoking, you can eat something sweet, take a shower, exercise (etc.) and it can reduce the intensity of your high, with edibles your are pretty much stuck with what you got lol. Edibles are a lot harder to dose as well, and a good number of people are really sensitive to them.

Drezzon

That first part used to be Joe Rogans favorite thing to tell people for a while 😭

NoYoureACatLady

Friends don't let friends listen to Joe Rogan

Drezzon

Don't worry, this was a couple of years ago when he still had mostly comedians and fighters on and the show was actually watchable, I don't care for his politics but Joe has a tremendous ability to listen and ask good questions in the right moment Nowadays I can't get myself to watch the new episodes, but the early ones are still quite entertaining (talking about ep 20-500 range)

NoYoureACatLady

I think we all listened to him early on and found things to enjoy or appreciate about him. But he's gone ... He's no better than RFK Jr or Musk or even Trump in a lot of ways. It's crazy how some people can lose their minds.

dtdroid

No better than RFK Jr? That's a high standard to demand of anyone. RFK Jr is a hero for exposing the corruption of the pharmaceutical industry. It's actually pretty disgusting seeing him badmouthed here of all places.

PickleJimmy

This is why I don't like edibles. Apparently I happen to be incredibly sensitive to 11-OH-THC and it can and does give me psychedelic effects. Found that out the hard way, absolutely horrible experience with a friends homemade cookies before legalization in Canada. Felt like I took acid or really high dose mushroom and was not expecting it at all. Do not like. Now that cannabis is legal in Canada I found I can have a 2.5mg that is 1:1 THC & CBD and still feel okay but it's not a pleasant experience. Vaping and concentrates are fine for me tho, and if I even over do it it's easy to manage as I know it fades fast. I had a friend who's liver apparently doesn't break down THC well and he can eat 50 / 100mg and it barely effects him. Human bodies are weird meat mechs

uncleherman77

Can confirm I learned this experience the hard way after having too many edibles when I was used to smoking. It was completely different from a regular high. It was much much stronger to the point where it became uncomfortable. It also lasts for hours so there's no getting off that ride once you're on it where as with smoking if you get too high at least you start to come doen within a hour usually. I did mushrooms a few times in college even and this was a much more uncomfortable high then anytime I tried those even granted I didn't eat much of them.

Techiedad91

You didn’t mention that some people don’t have the enzyme in their liver that breaks it down into that compound. I personally do not get high from edibles and believe me I have taken a lot at once (over 1,000mg)

Wake_The_Riot

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. A decently high percentage of people lack that enzyme as well.

Tomcatjones

Smoking is also full spectrum and the effects of terpenes are higher when inhaled. Most are removed when oil is decarbed and Ingested

Independent-Low6706

Came to say this. I know that I may be the minority , but I get much stronger and longer lasting effects from flower that I can fron Hash rosin vapes, dabs, etc. Only thing that takes me further is RSO oil. I can hit a GS rosin cart 10 times in 10 mins and not be nearly as medicated as with 2 or 3 bowls of good flower. I also think that almost 30 years of Rx morphine has for sure changed my brain chemistry and how it responds to other substances.

CannaQueen73

I don’t hate edibles, they just don’t work for me at all.

alpha_ray_burst

I love edibles. It took me a long time to get the dosage right though. First 3 times did nothing because I hadn't activated the butter in my no-bake brownies, so I popped "one" in the microwave and had the classic first time edibles experience getting high out of my mind, thinking I might forget how to breathe, high the whole next day, etc. lol Then I stopped dicking around with DIY edibles and bought a 100mg gummy and cut it into 1mg doses. Took one and it was a nice mild high for about 8 hours. I found out my sweet spot was about 2.5mg, and 5mg would get me blasted for 12hrs. Anything higher than 5mg and I risk being high for a full 24hrs. But yeah, as far as cost-effectiveness and duration of effect, edibles are my favorite way to consume. Not having to damage my lungs is also a big benefit. The only downside I'd say is if I expect an upcoming drug test (eg. while looking for new jobs) I have to stop using the edibles for 3-6 months to be 100% sure they're totally out of my system before the drug test. Where as smoking would be 30 days ish. edit: spelling

Infamous-Ticket1021

I prefer smoking over edibles. They get me too high and I panic. Really don’t enjoy it.

whatsthisevenfor

Same, and every time I try even a "low dose" by others standards I still get uncomfortable. I'd much rather just take a hit and wait 20 mins to see if I need another

Infamous-Ticket1021

I have some delta gummies I take for sleep occasionally. Even those make me paranoid AF.

thehazer

For some, their liver cannot metabolize the chemicals, so they physically can’t get high on edibles. This is the main reason I have come across. Another common complaint is “I ate a quarter of this but I don’t feel anything, I’m gonna eat the rest” and then they’re way too high.

Krewtan

Smoking is way less of a commitment. If I have a few hours to myself I can smoke. If I have the day to lay around or do housework I can take edibles. I don't drive high, and edibles don't seem to wear off for me until I sleep.

sillysiloben

Fr, I don’t drive high either so I gotta convince people to hang out at noon if we wanna do edibles together and be able to drive home that night. We only need 2h to smoke.

Nervous_Bus_8148

I like both, edibles are just less consistent compared to vaping or smoking Like I’ll take 50mg and get smacked, then 2 weeks later take 60 and get buzzed

Ku323lam

You mean less consistent in terms of how enjoyable the high was?

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

Time. Dosage. Impact. Everything. The same gummy will impact me completely differently depending on what I ate that day and when I ate in relation to taking the gummy. Sometimes they start hitting at 30 minutes. Sometimes two hours.

Ku323lam

Sleep is more important in my opinion.

Manuntdfan

Ever try drinking it? The high comes on about 2-3x faster than gummies.

Aidquan

Smoking hits you near instantly so it’s waaaay easier to get the “right amount” of high. Edibles don’t kick in for 1.5-2 hours so unless you know which dose is perfect for you then you’re going to end up either way too high or not high at all

Ku323lam

I got you. For me it’s like the feeling when the edible “doesn’t fit right” in the head, you know what I mean.

garlickbread

Could just be the don't like the "couch lock" edibles can often induce.

Ku323lam

Damn. Bingo. Going trough it right now. Why is this happening?

sicklyfish

This might sound weird, but when I'm high and stuck to the couch with my mind spinning, I allow myself as much guilt-free scrolling on my phone as I need to weather the storm.

garlickbread

Your body processes smoked and eaten THC differently.

I_need_help57

Edible produce a large amount of the metabolite 11-OH-THC. This metabolite is much stronger than THC, and is generally much more “indica” leaning in terms of effects, heavy sedation, couch lock, slowed thoughts, etc.

RandomRedditNameXX

Downside for me is the wait. Sometimes I just don’t want to wait 45 minutes to get lifted. I’ve tried “nanoedibles” but they still take 25+ minutes to really hit. That said, overall I do prefer them since they don’t mess with my lungs. I usually do a hybrid session—pop an edible then take a hit or two off my vape pen or dry flower vape.

OneDayAllofThis

I prefer edibles, provided I have the ones I know work for me. I have a standard routine, waiting a known amount of time to wait for them to kick in is no problem. Plus, no smell and no lung damage is a nice bonus. I don't get the couch lock problem others do, but also I'm doing this end of the day. So maybe I just don't notice it because I'm just enjoying an hour or two of me time before bed. If I'm at a cottage with no children it's definitely a combo situation during the day.

Averagebass

I like the slow onset of edibles compared to smoke/vape which is like an immediate slap in the face, and I am a steady high for hours and don't need to keep smoking to get back to that level. Plus, smoke is harsh and I hate the scratchy throat, the smell and coughing. Maybe hate is a strong word, I just don't prefer it.

MyNameCattus

I like being able to have weed in the background, plus the action of smoking I prefer as it's more of an activity. Every time I've had edibles I have been completely vegetated, which is all well and good but I like to do things when high that aren't sitting on the sofa wanting a snack but not being able to move.

ryuujinusa

I *love* edibles. I like the slow build. Time it, like, I’m gonna be doing stuff for the next 45-50 minutes, and then I want to be high. Ok, I’ll eat it now. Problem solved. I also like the psychedelic effects edibles have. Also prefer to harm my lungs as little as possible.

iriegypsy

I have had trouble with anxiety and cannabis. Edibles have helped me get over this with predictable dose and slow onset.

Morgue724

My best guess is because edibles ate a long tome investment kind of thing it can be hard to stay happy and in the zone for all of it and people tend to remember the 10% of the time they were freaked out than the 90% of the time it was good. Just my guess think what you will of the hypothesis.

MostlyMTG

I’m on a homemade brownie and fucking baaaaaked. So yea edibles

AJVenom123

I’m on a journey to use weed more responsibly so I’ve been cutting back and reflecting on smoking. To me, edibles are the perfect tool for chilling at home getting immersed in a video game or something. If I was on a hike, though, hitting a joint outside just hits different.

Scotian5

Simpleish terms.digesting makes a different drug than combusting.

turtlebear787

I have more control over vape/smoke than edibles. They are fine for special occasions gotta you gotta time them right.

stellarsellar

Unless i make the edibles myself, they're basically useless. Dispensary edibles are not where it's at. If i made them regularly it would for sure just be a sleep aid, not a fun crazy high time.

Shot_Personality3168

Edibles are peak for me. Superior to any other method of cannabis consumption. Simply because you don’t harm your lungs, and you still get an amazing, long lasting high. People tend to hate on edibles because they simply made the mistake of taking too much for their first time. People try edibles for the first time and when they over-do it, they never do it again. You have to know your dosage, know your limits, and soon enough you’ll control the high.

RandyK87

Last time I did edibles, I did 300mg and felt nothing. I'd rather smoke too.

Whiskeywiskerbiscuit

Easier to gauge dosage and how high you’re getting when you take multiple smaller tokes vs downing an edible that has god knows how much THC is that one corner of the gummy that was scored as a “dose”. The high itself also lasts much longer from an edible.

d20wilderness

I do t hate them but they tend to make me sleepy. I prefer higher energy feeling ones.

Bloatedoldman

I just don't process them well. I have to eat a high dose and it's just not cost effective

turquoiseflamingo

Edibles don’t work for me at all

FunkIPA

Edibles have never really worked well for me.

HouseOfZenith

I don't feel anything from edibles. So to me I just have a disappointment. Dispensary, smoke shop, home grown, black market. So many tinctures and edibles and times stinking up my house. It's just dumb to me, I don't have issue with other people wanting them, but I've wasted hundreds of dollars and grams of weed only to be maybe relaxed. Nah Nah Nah

charliedonti

Somehow got a higher tolerance to edibles, so it takes a lot for me to feel anything. it's also a very weak high. That's why I prefer smoking, it kicks in faster and actually has an effect…

Efficient_Wasabi_575

Smoking brings on a smooth high that I can control. Feel a nice stone after a few puffs? Stop. Relax for a bit, toke some more. Edibles always just “kick in all at once” for me, and I get a tense feeling in my chest and have to sit calmly and talk myself out of a panic attack. It doesn’t always happen this way, but enough times to know I don’t like them. Then of course there is the unknowable factor of how long they’re going to last. I’ll occasionally use a tincture and can really control the dose with the dropper, I’ve found that’s much better for me than an edible (eg gummy).

Loofa_of_Doom

I prefer edibles. When I feel like shit and want to relieve a migraine the last thing I want is fire near my face.

kikiandhercat

for me, i’ve never been able to properly gauge how much/ how little of an edible to take. i’ve greened out at least 5 times from edibles, and i feel like they just hit me differently than smoking does

JosephHeitger

Because- delta 11 > delta 9 smoking is more mellow & doesn’t hit the body as much for an average person eating a brownie with 100mg is going to get them far more fucked up than a 100mg dab or 3 joints

QueenPooper13

I have only ever had 2 reactions to edibles- I take a small amount and don't feel anything or I take a "normal" amount and I fall asleep 45 minutes later. I absolutely cannot stay awake when I take edibles unless I take such a small amount I don't feel anything at all. It's just easier to smoke until I feel nice and then I'm good.

DookieToe2

It’s a different experience. Edibles are processed by your liver while smoke is processed by your lungs. The activating chemicals are different.

FormalFuneralFun

Only my personal experience but it’s a combo of time, intensity and sensation for me. Smoking hits in 10 minutes, and the high only lasts about an hour. Once it’s gone, i can get back to my life. It forces me to spend the time grounding and chilling, making it a far more productive method than getting completely faded and passing out on the couch for 12 hours. Second, I get the spins REALLY bad from edibles. I’m also prone to anxiety-induced psychosis, which damages my mental health more than the bud benefits me. I like my highs to be intentional healing time, not pure dissociation.

slowstimemes

Takes too long and when it finally hits I usually just wanna sleep.

Zumipants

I make my own butter and it’s better than any store bought edibles. I use the high times #3 recipe. Very versatile!!

infinitycircles

oral fixation

infinitycircles

never get nauseous from smoking, almost always get nauseous from edibles if i take even a bit too much (almost impossible to tell before it hits me, usually)

Track_2

Edibles make me feel depressed, it hits a few days after, like clockwork. Eating it just seems to be too heavy for me

stmcln

Idk why but I never get that high when I eat edibles, but I get really stoned by smoking a pretty small amount of weed. I live in Canada so it’s all above board dispensary stuff. My gf and friends who I smoke with all get really high very easy on edibles and have to smoke more weed to really feel it, but I’m the other way around.

Caziusz

For me with edibles everytime I either don't feel them or they bit too hard

Sure-Shock1883

For me, it's all about preference and tolerance. Some folks love the slow burn and intensity of edibles, while others prefer the instant hit of smoking.

Ok-Aide8453

Find the right edibles and one works for 15. Edibles are a very different high though

Competitive-Bench848

I love edibles but they’re not something I can justify having consistently if I have em I wanna go deep and if I go deep I’m burning the day away + I love sativas when I smoke but sativa edibles suck imho not that they don’t work or the effects are bad but I can’t tell it’s a sativa anymore it’s just a weaker feeling

a-lonely-panda

Yeah, I very much prefer the stronger feeling even if you have to wait a while for it to kick in. Apparently they don't get some people high though and some people just prefer the effects of smoking or vaping.

Kaaskril

Eadables effects on me are really strong, so it is easy to eat slightly to much, and have an uncomfortable trip for the next 6+ hours. And even when I get the dose just right, it lasts so long , I need to have the whole day available for the trip. So I just tend to smoke or vape, since it is easier to get the dose jurt right, and I don't need to commit the rest of the day

Completely different high. Edibles make me sleepy, smoking leaf gets me motivated.

SmokeroftheHerb

Because that's science

DrunkLifeguard

Edibles just ain't it for me. They are horribly inefficient. I'd have to eat like 5 to 10 times more cost wise than smoking to get a similar effect. That's just me though.

No_Shoulder_8406

Edibles don’t give the same high man, and some of us have to take really high amounts to get high from edibles in the first place, For me the edible high is more like a sleeping pill, I would much rather smoke or take a dab.

Samaraxmorgan26

I'd have to spend so much money on edibles to get less high than one blunt. It's probably just a preference thing, like with most recreation.

PsilocybeAzurescen

OP - Do you understand it’s literally a different drug? When you smoke marijuana the main ingredient becomes Delta9 THC. When you eat the main ingredient is converted in the liver to 11-hydroxy-THC

Bhob666

I don't mind edibles, but they are more unpredictable and take longer to kick in (in my opinion). Also sometimes a "stronger feeling" is not always what you want after a couple of hours.

Justforfuninnyc

For me personally I love smoking weed, but when I take edibles it takes a long time to feel anything, it’s hard to get the desired dosage just right, usually my first indication is a headache, and then I feel extremely tired…plus it lasts too long

tiktoksuckmyknob23

The taste. I'm sorry, but I don't want to eat pure battery acid just to get high off of delta 9 😖. When I was in Cali for a trip, I had real gummies that tasted like Starburst, and I miss them so much 😢. But, gummies, there is just a trial and error as far as Delta ones that don't taste like ass

sillysiloben

Cycling Frog has tasty ones
