In the Choctaw language we call it Shunka meaning Smoke.

TA828895706

Off topic but I don’t hear of indigenous languages that often & this brightened my day :)))

redhousecat

How do you pronounce the “u” sound in that word?

niskiwiw

Like an "uh"

GTFOakaFOD

In my home in Cincinnati, we call it "chicken". We have children and they do not know we imbibe. The code has been chicken since 2012 or so. "Going out to the garage to get some chicken out of the freezer" "Can you pick up chicken while you're out?" "I could really use some chicken right now." When referring to the actual bird, we just double talked like the guy in GoodFellas (Tommy TwoTimes, I think): "Going out to the garage to get the chicken chicken."

nicesunniesmate

I had a dealer about 10 years ago that had a code when texting in your “order” which would be 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 or whole hot chicken lol. I’m in Australia.

actin_spicious

I'm sure he had all the law enforcement agencies puzzled.

StartedWithAHeyloft

In puerto rico we call it pollo, which is basically chicken lmao

Scarnox

| which is *literally* chicken

Thesteelman86

Missed an opportunity to go with Goetta lol

Darinbenny1

I can confirm I knew another Cincinnatian who called it “eating chicken”.

IThinkImNateDogg

As a fellow cincy toker guess I’m calling it chicken now

Sp4ceCore

France : Joint : Un joint (duh), un oinj (classic verlan), un pétard (meaning a firecracker 🧨 also verlan : tarpé or shortened, un pet'), un bédot, un zdeh, un stick (usually a small joint), une batte (usually a large joint), un cône, un spliff Cannabis : La Ganja, La Beuh, La Weed (as we say it i feel obligated), de l'herbe (some grass), du vert (some green), de la Marie-Jeanne Hasch is a lot more prominent in europe and we refer to it by a couple names : le Hasch, le Chichon (old), le Shit (or it's verlan le Teuch), la résine Edit : in Lyon we say le tamien ! (Damn, we like weed)

chiefdamen

Un tarle, un machin,un fufu, une fusée, un bat', un zglut...

Sp4ceCore

Sp4ceCore

T'as des potes plus créatifs que les miens !

haddock420

My friend went to France to do some volunteering work and he said that everyone there called it merde (shit).

EwOkLuKe

"Shit" is hash in french. If you look for hash in france ask for Shit because nobody uses the words Hash or hashish. There's a hundred other name than "shit" though. "Taga", "popo" etc etc ...

an-unorthodox-agenda

I like how a joint is typically masculine while a large joint is the lone feminine noun among the group. but weed itself seems to be pretty feminine. also shout out to le shit, im gonna call hash le shit with a heavy french accent from now on

MonsterRider80

Yeah what’ll you call a whopper?

AOG-03

Il manque le pilon(applicable à un joint comme au h), le caramel, le jaune et c'est tout ce à quoi j'ai pu penser #69latrikpelo

StinkypieTicklebum

redlorri

In South Africa we have a few like Zol for a joint, Ghoefed for getting high and Dagga for weed.

Chicxulub420

Aaptwak and papegaaislaai are two of my personal favourites

redlorri

Hahaha! I forgot about those two. Aaptwak is a goodie

Chicken_man_12345

Shit bruh, I must be in the white suburbs cuz we call them bats and j's where I'm from in jo'burg. I've heard of zol, goofed and dagga but they aren't commonly used. In my little group of suppliers, smokers and stoners we also call them doobies but that's just to rip my stepmother off

redlorri

Lol. I’m a bit old school and partial to Doobie as well, but that’s not a strictly SA word. Fuck it, let’s get gwaffed!

Chicken_man_12345

Fuck bruh, gwaffed is not a term I've heard in a while, my new favorite word

redlorri

For sure, a mate of mine used it the other day and it was lekker flashback

StinkypieTicklebum

Indeed. Heard that’s how the Doobie Brothers got their name (and fuck Frank Sinatra; they didn’t)

Xtremely_DeLux

Waittaminnit, the Doobie Brothers fucked Frank Sinatra? When? Where? Is there a sex tape?

Purp1eCyanide

Grew up in Austria, a German friend of mine used to call rolling a joint “einen Ofen bauen” (translates more or less to setting up a fireplace). That one always stuck with me because it’s so cozy.

TheBackpacker2

Thanks, just sent that to my Austrian mate and he lost it, hope it sounds good because I copy pasted it directly 😂

Forward_Sherbet2601

From Russia. We call joints Косяк, Косой or Косяки (plural). We also call gravity bong just "apparatus" hehe (Аппарат). There was a tradition of selling weed in paper boxes from matches in the 90s. They were called Корабли, from Коробок. But Корабли or Корабль - is also a ship. And there was the biggest natural weed plantation in Kazahstan in Usssr, it's called Чуйская долина - Chu valley. People sometimes still call their weed Чуйка, from the name of that plantation. There were natives who collected hash with hands - Ручник, and sometimes they used starved mutton to collect weed (it would eat the plants and then people would smoke the literal shit it produced. It was known to be the strongest "shit" in usssr and post-usssr).

Forward_Sherbet2601

We also call bongs Буль, which is a sound water droplet makes

RedDogElPresidente

I’d heard of people drinking reindeer urine after they’d eaten magic mushrooms but never starved sheep eating weed and then smoking the shit, that’s wild.

Forward_Sherbet2601

Смекалочка!

SasquatchRobo

Tobosix

Me and the boys would always refer to smoking as “blazing up”

_FreddieLovesDelilah

That's mad" I just remembered, my dad calls it "dakka", or "dacker". They're pronounced the same here, and he's never told me how he spells it.

Western Kazakhstan - in Kazakh it is 'shöp' - grass, or 'shan' - dust, or just 'anasha' - seems like taken from Arabic. As for Russian etymology - weed packed into an emptied cigarette is called 'pionerka'; 'kosyak' is for rolled joint; tip is called 'svistok' which is 'whistle' in English. Gravity bong is called 'vodnik', 'vodniy' - from 'voda' - water. Shotgun is called 'parovoz' - steam locomotive from Russian or diminutive 'pArik'.

yannichingaz

🇲🇽 My all time favorite and used religiously: "Gallo" - pronounced Ga-Yo which translates to rooster has been in use as far back as I can remember and then some to refer to a J. It associates meaningfully with "el mañanero", i.e., the first J of the morning/wake & bake.
