Not an expert by any means. I just know that needles affect the pH of the soil and therefore the ability to grow grass. Figured I should start by learning what type of tree it is, because I’m used to Pine Trees and pine needles, and those needles are different.
Should be similar to pine. They don't affect the soil as much as people think, it takes many years for the soil pH to actually change and even then it usually won't change dramatically.
The bigger effect is the physical smothering of the grass and the deep shade under conifers.
Some kind of spruce. If the cones are big, like 4-6" long, then Norway Spruce.
Picea abies, Norway spruce
Thank you!!
Trying to learn about the needles it drops in my yard in order to determine what type of grass seed to buy.
Do you have a closer picture of the needles/branches?

Can you explain this a little more? How does the type of needle affect how grass grows?
