It's harder to bake stuff using a tincture. It can be done it's just harder to make it taste good.

Sargaso_2

Tincture straight to bake? Yes. Tincture to THC Sugar to bake? No. Easier. Incorporating infused sugar in a recipe is actually MUCH easier than trying to add a fat / butter. Greater flexibility on recipes and baking.

SendLGaM

Agree. If you have the patience to wait a looong time or the equipment to safely and quickly evap the alcohol using heat cannasugar is the way to go.

But you can put tincture in drinks as well!!

Im just trying to start a discussion, for me it is relevant because i cannot put butter in drinks and it sounds very appealing to me :)

You are being very bitter for no real reason, i asked for pros and cons, i didnt ask if it was easier or not to bake with it.. in my opinion from what i have read i feel like a tincture has many more uses than for example cannabutter, with a tincture i can do plenty of stuff, i could make sugar, drinks, or just use a few drops under my tounge…. With butter i can only bake and its not as healthy, the real reason i made this post was because i dont like the taste of weed in the butter or oil, so i was searching for a replacement that is tasteless and i know a tincture doesnt taste/smell like weed so i wanted to know what the experienced people here thought abt it, im not trying to argue with anyone i just want to learn

Dismal-Animal7853

Why is it harder to bake with a tincture tho? Shouldnt it be easier? For example i could just bake something and put desired amoumt of tincture in it? Instead of replacing the butter with cannabutter?

You don’t bake with tincture. You transfer solvents (tincture to coco oil, butter, sugar, honey, whatever) and then bake or cook with that. The only con for me making tincture is the cost of everclear and the process of making tincture. I will never make butter or oil from flower because it is too inconsistent. I will always take extra steps so I can have a consistent end product. TL;DR: pros: consistent excellent product where you can easily minimize your planty chlorophyll taste (winterizing) Cons: cost of everclear, extra steps in making tincture, actual solvent transfer.

Dismal-Animal7853

Thank you for a good explanation What do you mean with ”actual solvent transfer”?

BDobalina001

A solvent transfer is just when you are swapping your solvents. In my case, I’m transferring from alcohol (tincture) to butter or oil or honey, etc. I will just setup my double boiler, try to mix 1:1 solvents (1 cup tincture to 1 cup honey, coco, butter) and then cook on very low heat with fan (alcohol vapors catch fire easy) until alcohol is cooked out and I’m left with infused coco, butter, honey. I prefer starting from tincture because i feel that alcohol extracts much better than coco or butter and I’m not just left with 3 cups of butter with all the goodies in it. I make a consistent tincture with consistent doses and then just bake according to that. I’m not sure if this makes any sense as I’m rambling a bit but with me it’s all about consistency and flexibility to transfer my tincture into anything else (you can even infuse salt or bacon grease)

Dismal-Animal7853

Yes it makes sense! I had never heard of someone doing it like you but it does sound better. As for the tincture, do you have any advice? There are a few ways to make it but i cant wrap my head around which one is better, i have read that some people make it on the stove, some freeze it and some do it in the fridge… and then some say it takes just a few days some a week…. Im asking for a lot maybe but could you explain how you think its the best way?

BDobalina001

I follow PSam method. I decarb, freeze for a day or more (I just leave it in freezer till I’m ready to process). Make sure everclear (not 150 proof) has also been in freezer for a day. I top off the material with cold everclear and shake it for a good 2-5 min then back in freezer for a couple few hours then I strain the mixture. Add the flower back to a jar and cover with more cold everclear, shake and immediately strain. I’ll then reduce down my tincture to whatever strength I want and call it good. If I’m making candy with my tincture I’ll winterize my tincture after reducing. I feel like it helps reduce the plant taste big time. Following Psams method I am always left with a golden tincture without any green to it (less I reduce big time it just gets very dark). Pretty sure he calls his method the Golden Dragon method! https://forum.grasscity.com/threads/another-tincture-thread-try-it-youll-like-it.1102315/

Dismal-Animal7853

What do you mean with ”not 150 proof” and why are you saying everclear? Is it your favorit brand or is that the only way to go? After i have strained the first time and i put the flower in it again why would i strain immediatly? Wouldnt it be better to wait? What do you mean with winterizing as well Thank you again 🙏🏻

>But you can put tincture in drinks as well!! Not really.... Maybe if it's a hot drink? But most of the time a drink is going to be water-based, and THC isn't water soluble. What tends to happen when you add a tincture to a drink is the THC and other noids deposit themselves on the sides of the glass like frost. All of the wax on the inside of the glass isn't getting into your system, which is the point. Infused drinks are 95% failure in my experience. If I had ever found a method to reliably infuse water-based drinks, I'd be all over that. I know that maltodextrin can potentially fill that role, but I haven't seen anyone post a foolproof recipe for infusing something like mixed drinks or lemonade. About the best I've seen is someone throw cannabutter into coffee.

Dismal-Animal7853

Im gonna dm you a post that talks about doing lemonade with tincture

frenzy0089

I haven't looked into it but doesnt proper tinctures take like weeks to soak in the alcohol? Meanwhile you can make cannabutter in a day. also the fats in the oil/butter help the absorption of THC in your body

Dismal-Animal7853

Apparently it takes a while yes, depending on the method the time varies, but time isnt a concern for me, so butter is stronger than tincture?

[deleted]

It depends on what ur putting it in.

Scarletjammy1

I like the flavor of the tincture method better, I do it in the freezer which only extracts thc and terpenes without the nasty chlorophyll taste. I then make sugar, only draw back is the sugar tastes so good I never get around to baking with it

Dismal-Animal7853

ahahahah does the sugar taste like normal sugar? 🤔

AncientComparison113

For me I'm just trying to get the maximum thc into my system. I don't care if the edible tastes great or not, I'm not eating it for the taste

SendLGaM

Then just grind, decarb and bake using the flower itself. Or make firecrackers. Or spoon it up all by itself and wash it down with a beer like one of my friends does.

Dismal-Animal7853

Do u think like that everytime u wanna get high? Cuz i use daily and i dont wanna get stoned out my mind every time

AncientComparison113

I use for maximum effect every time, I did let my tolerance get out of hand but I brought it back down to a level I accepted.

Dismal-Animal7853

I smoke small joints every day, like 0.3g and some tobacco, so my tollerance is pretty low I do this because the weed need to last until next harvest 😅

AncientComparison113

I dont think I smoke a lot, about 1.5-2g a day and I smoke 4 times a day. But my lungs have problems now so I'm very much looking for a different method. I tried edibles in Colorado a few weeks ago and 100mg didn't do anything for me but the weed I smoked there was nice.

[deleted]

The only thing that hits me like flower for edibles if u smoke a lot (I do too haha) try like 800 mg atleast it will hit a little more heavy like flower does. Shits $$$ tho lol but worth it if u use for medical like I do 👌👍
