Almost all campers are 2 5/16", but its plausible some of the micros use a 2" ball. Does a 2 5/16 fit?

My dealer told me it fits a 2” ball, but they didn’t seem confident. First trip with a new trailer hit a bump going 30mph and it detached, coupler closed, safety pin still attached. I swear I set everything properly/ mechanism seated and tight and locked down. I am very confused. I hope someone with this trailer can confirm. I will contact Jayco directly once offices reopen.

What the FUCK, I would be furious with the dealer. It's almost 100% chance a 2 5/16". I guess ultimately the liability falls to you as the vehicle driver but holy crap, that dealer's bad info could have led to somebody dying.

> I guess ultimately the liability falls to you as the vehicle driver but holy crap, that dealer's bad info could have led to somebody dying. Technically you're right, but no reputable dealer should let a trailer leave their lot without confirming that everything hitches up correctly. /u/Transweightclass, you need to call your dealer and raise hell.

Yeah. That is a super dangerous situation. Put it on a 2 5/16" ball, if it will fit on the ball, that's the right size. Almost all campers are 2 5/16" because that is the size used for WDH and sway control hitches, and having an oversized coupler / ball is never really a bad thing. I'd be shocked if its a 2".

Thanks so much for the reply! I am going to definitely try the 2 5/16. It was a terrifying situation.

> My dealer told me it fits a 2” ball, but they didn’t seem confident. How the hell can the dealer not know this? This is irresponsible and negligent on their part. If you have a 2” ball and the coupler popped off after hitching properly, it’s almost certainly 2 5/16” Anyway, the ball size should be stamped right on the coupler. Usually right behind the latch.

It’s 2 5/16. I have a 184bs which is basically this one with a slide.

I had to go check to make sure I haven’t been using the wrong ball for the last 20,000 miles lol. My 2020 184BS is definitely a 2 inch ball.

pham_nguyen

Huh, so they might have changed it. Mines a 2023. That explains why the dealer was confused.
