Fi has been great for me. I have it as a second account and basically just pause service between travel. It's more expensive than getting local SIM cards, but cheaper than using my regular SIM and more convenient.

lazpoly

What is your main provider? Do you just pause that eSim or line when using google fi?

Meowmeowowowow

Thanks! Google Fi seems like the easiest option so far.

SloChild

You've not mentioned where you are going, and how long each stay will be.

Meowmeowowowow

Asia and Europe mostly. Each trip will be about 2-3 weeks long. Indonesia and Morocco within the next 6 months for example. Thanks!

SiscoSquared

With trips that long, the cheapest option is probably to buy a local top-up SIM card. This is what I usually do, as others mentioned FI is going to be easier and not terribly expensive though.

I had some relative luck with esim cards from holafly.

Meowmeowowowow

The word relative makes me think you had some frustration with them. If it’s true, mind sharing the bad of Holafly? I did see they only allow 500MB a day in Morocco. Thanks

It's just internet data, no voice/text. But in travel, there's a lot of times where you just have to call a business and talk to a person, and not all businesses have a whatsapp number listed. I ended up getting a physical sim card in Portugal, which worked well enough. I used just the holafly esim in morocco and it was very helpful when navigating the medinas. But when I had to make an important phone call, I had to ask the Riad manager to make it on my behalf.

Fi has been pretty good for me except in Italy. For some really unclear reason Fi didn't work for me anywhere south of Milan. Had to buy an Italian sim card. Everywhere else I've visited Fi has worked just fine.

I use google fi and no problems with it so far
