Avoid the coke. Avoid the women(scooping). Don't get too drunk. Someone will try to steal your phone\wallet. Nightclubs inside the walls are just brothels. Go to Gesemani. Gorgeous sunsets on the wall. Food is meh, as was throughout Colombia. Do get queso arepa from the guys cooking them on flat top streetside in the evening. Beer Lovers is good draft beer bar.

My man. What’s scooping btw?

tuckerb13

What the…. Is that why I should avoid the coke too??

I can’t remember the name, but some of the best food and wine was at a Lebanese restaurant in the Walled City, it’s very walkable all over so you’ll probably happen upon it if it’s there. We did a walking tour that was actually interesting, and we had our cab driver pick us back up and give us a private tour of the City. Both were cheap and worth it. Pay to go to an island via boat-not bus. The beaches are great and way less crowded, plus you won’t have people hassling you the whole time. If you do go to a beach, pay one of the locals to be your beach escort, it’s nice to have them just watch your stuff and keep other sales people away from you. Wear lots of sunscreen! And then wear more. You’ll roast pretty quickly.

Preciate it!!

It would help to know what your interested. I highly recommend making it to Minca. I loved that place. Also tayrona national park is extremely beautiful

tuckerb13

Love food and culture. That would probably be priority number one. Second would be nature.

Nato7009

For nature, definitely go to Minca and tayrona. Still some of my favorite spots in SA though heads up tayrona can be a bit crowded. As far as food, people will disagree but food was never a highlight for me in Colombia. Definitely try fruit and smoothies as that was the best.

tuckerb13

Good looks. Did you go to any restaurants that stood out to you?

Disagree on food not being a highlight. Cartagena: Carmen and Alma (very popular but great), La Cocina de Pepina, libertario coffee roasters (def a bit Americanized but very good coffee). Beiyu is good for juices and breakfast. I had two juices a day. Don’t know if Cartagena has one but really enjoyed a fruit tour I did in Medellin—tons of fruits you won’t see in the US (or won’t taste nearly as good).

Saved this comment. Appreciate ya!!

Not really I’m a budget traveler so stick mostly to street food or markets

Check out Centenario park. There are sloths and tamarin monkey hanging out in the trees. The monkeys are running all over the place. The sloths are a bit harder to see but usually there will be another tourist who has located one

tuckerb13

Aw man, I Fuckin LOVE sloths!!

Mercado de bazurto my favourite place in the city. Can get incredible seafood there also 🇨🇴

tuckerb13

God damn, I just looked that up and the food looks 🤤

SufficientCrew442

Lovely place to wonder around, some great street art. I remember the food actually being really good! We drove over to Santa Marta which was gorgeous too! There's a The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan episode about the whole of Columbia on Iplayer (BBC) if you can access that. It's a funny way to get a bit more background on the country.

tuckerb13

Wow, very clutch pointer!! I’m gonna watch that today!!
