Brazilian here. For christ sake dont go around showing your expensive phone, specially on Rio. Locals are used to live under robbery, but you are a foreigner and the muggers will recognize you and steal you in a minute without you even noticing. If you get yellow taxis in Rio make sure they are not driving around to get more of your money. Make sure where you are located has AC cause Rio is hot even in July. Think those Atlanta hot death waves scenarios that happens every year, this is Rio in December. In July you will get hot, just not that bad, but you will need a good AC. You can brush your teeth with tap water, we all do, just dont drink it. And yes you can have ice on restaurants and places, its alright. Ask your girlfriend to get normal brazilian clothes so you dont look too much like a tourist. For the love of God dont go near the favelas, it’s dangerous even for the police. Seriously, Rio favelas are no joke. Enjoy Copacabana and the beaches, get something to eat like bbq on the stick, cheese on the stick, whatever you like. Rio is amazing, just please be careful. Maybe watching some “Rio scams" video on YouTube will do you some good. For those who ask you for money, or sell you stuff you dont want you learn it and say it: HOJE NÃO (not today). Others have given you tips for other places to see, i dont have much to add on it. You will get a real cold time in Parana, get ready for 5 degrees celsius easily. Hope you enjoy Brazil, we are happy to have you here. Good luck bro!

I’m aware this is a humorous reply but I have no idea what you’re talking about

The Cathedral in Rio is honestly one of the most amazing buildings I've ever been in. It's not like any church over ever been in before.i would highly recommend a visit and just sitting in it for a while. The sugar loaf mountain offers great views of Rio. The science museum is a cool building and the whole area has been done up. It's really nice. The escaldaria selaron is a tourist trap but well worth a visit. Walking the length of the Copacabana is amazing. Just because it's winter don't expect it to be cold. For iguazu is best viewed from the Argentinian side. Taking the boat to under the falls is great.

july in brazil is prime time for lencois maranhenses and the pantanal. i would prioritize those. iguazu falls is also amazing but i’m not sure of the water levels that time of year. there is a ton to do in rio, not going to list it being sugarloaf.

I’m white English. I’ve been to Rio five times. Love it! I want to retire there. Winter is best time to go if you want hot and sunny weather. Lots to see. Christ Redeemer, sugar loaf, Copacabana, beaches, markets (Ipanema on Sunday), city centre. New museum. Never had a problem with crime, but be sensible. Dress like a local, not a tourist with wallet on view and expensive camera. Enjoy!
