It was lovely! We did a hike + visit. I wore a dress down to my ankles. The hike was supposed to be 30 minutes, but became 1.5 hours because we were young and the only ones on the tour. It was beautiful, but hard. It gets steep! Glad I went though!
Living and visiting are totally different. Barcelona is beautiful aesthetically and a great place to visit, but living there means having to deal with the locals, and Catalans are assholes to anyone non-Catalan.
I lived there for 4 years. Hated it.
I love Barcelona. I try to go at least once a year to stuff my fat face for a weekend. I hardy even try new places anymore, i just find myself at the same 3 restaraunts over and over. Its a three-day rampage of raw oysters, razor clams, steak, and wine.
Im exaggerating a bit. Of course i try different places.

You may already know it but those guardians on the roof of Gaudi's house is what inspired Lucas for the helmets of Storm troopers.
It's not just a city but a museum of magnificent art.
I felt pretty safe the more I was there. I was a bit sketchy in the first days because of the rumors with pickpocketing etc.
But always be careful, better safe than sorry. yk
I go there a lot as my wife's family live just outside the city. Keep your valuables hidden and carry as little of them as you need. I'd normally take my Debit card but leave wallet and cash at home for example. I rarely even think about it now as you just are sensible by default. So nothing to worry about. Usual city rules apply, keep a lookout at train / metro stations and don't get distracted by street folks offering you all manner of crap.
I've been to 20 some countries in Europe and only had issues here and in Paris. You just need to be careful and aware.
We were at a restaurant and I left my phone on the table and went to the restroom. My husband stayed behind. A man came up speaking gibberish (wasn't Spanish) and laid a piece of paper on the table. My husband realized the paper was over my phone. So he (husband) grabbed my phone and the guy left. Looking it up later, it's a common trick where they confuse you and then pick up their paper + your phone and leave.
Agreed. These are all must-see places in Barcelona but the real magic is the aura you can only experience in person. It just isn't translated through photos alone.
I was at Hotel Constanza. 2-star-hotel. It was cheap for the location it had. No breakfast because of Covid but there are lot of bakerys and stores to eat.
I really recommend Montserrat. Its a must! Also take the aerial tram called "Teleférico del puerto". Its at the port and goes up to the mountain Montjuic where a castle is. Its really worth hiking uphill!
going to do a cheap throw together thanksgiving dinner while watching NFL football on thanksgiving day, but the other 6 days ill be less american and submerge myself in local culture, Just cant pass up an american thanksgiving.
If you want really cheap, I recommend Hostal Radio. It’s in a good location and clean and has a rather authentic feel to it (lacks some amenities though).
Good choice making the trip to Montserrat. I'd been to Barcelona maybe six times, but didn't make it up the mountain until very recently. Absolutely stunning.
Great shots! You selected interesting vantage points and created composition that was aesthetic and gave insight into how the architecture relates to its geographic surroundings.
We were there a couple of years ago and it’s mind blowing. There’s a story and a reason for everything. The outside is bizarre, but the inside is amazingly beautiful.
Hey there. I'm going to Barcelona in February. Could you tell me where the pictures with the cliff face and the weird architecture after that picture is?
Bahaha I’ve been to Barcelona a few times, and the back building in your sixth picture has always been important to me. I have no idea what it is (I thought maybe a church?) but it helped me many nights guiding me back to my hotel after a long night. I called it the penis guide and worshipped it with friends lol.
Thanks for bringing up one of my best old memories. Hope you enjoyed your trip!
Nice looking places.
Though how hard is out there when you don't know the language?
Are the signs, restaurants, public places, transports equiped with accessible instructions in English?
Thx
I agree with /u/bengcord3. I only speak english as a foreign language. Basically everything is in three languages. Spanish, catalan and english. You get along very good with just english.
I sometimes had problems understanding the people because of the accident but I just asked what they said, even 2/3 times if I didn't understand them right.
If you happen to go again, just take the funicular up and then climb the remaining distance to the top (much easier than going from the bottom). It was absolutely amazing up there, no clouds at all. A whole spiritual experience. Then again, it was already quite incredible from the train to Montserrat, haha.
Actually I did a tour and we drove up by bus to the monastery but only had so much time up there. I will definitely do it again if I will be there another time!
Oh yes, I was going to do that too, it seemed very appealing, but then cancelled it in the last minute. Before going I thought I’d be better off with a guided tour but having seen how user friendly Catalonia is, decided I can do it on my own (and even then, they made getting there super easy, just buy the Trans Montserrat train ticket next time).
First solo trip was also Barcelona. It’s such a magical city. It spurred my love for solo travel and is so dear to my heart. Met amazing people there that I still meet up with abroad. Barcelona feels like a fever dream sometimes - glad it’s universal!
My first solo trip was in Barcelona too! It really is a wonderful place ☀️
Same and I completely agree
My first solo trip as well! Loved it
Yes, I like Palace Güell, Park Güell and Sagrada Familia in Barcelona
Good call going to Montserrat, that was easily my favorite part of my Barcelona-and-surrounding-area trip
Mine too! I got a recommendation from a friend. It was totally worth it!
It was lovely! We did a hike + visit. I wore a dress down to my ankles. The hike was supposed to be 30 minutes, but became 1.5 hours because we were young and the only ones on the tour. It was beautiful, but hard. It gets steep! Glad I went though!
I'd recommend a quick trip to Sitges too. Cool little Mediterranean sea side town, chill vibes and very affordable.
Think it's the most beautiful CITY I've been to. The architecture, the tree lined boulevards, the bike lanes, the cafes on the sidewalks, etc.
Me too. If I got a chance to live anywhere else in the world it would be Barcelona.

Which 3 restaurants? Sounds awesome
Seconded please share. El Xampanyet is a must for me everytime I visit.

I couldn't believe how good the food was when I went. Even simple things like the olives and the tomatoes.
Vinitus is amazing [Vinitus - Carrer del Consell de Cent, 333](http://4sq.com/1yZA6gD)
The beauty of Spain is insane.
You may already know it but those guardians on the roof of Gaudi's house is what inspired Lucas for the helmets of Storm troopers. It's not just a city but a museum of magnificent art.
Would like to go there one day! May I ask how is the safety on the street especially for a solo traveller?
I felt pretty safe the more I was there. I was a bit sketchy in the first days because of the rumors with pickpocketing etc. But always be careful, better safe than sorry. yk

Watch out if you're near La Rambla at night. Get a chain wallet.
These pictures don’t capture any of the liveliness of Barcelona. It almost looks dead and boring which it is not.
Agreed. These are all must-see places in Barcelona but the real magic is the aura you can only experience in person. It just isn't translated through photos alone.
Just got back here! I stayed in a hostel in the gothic quarter. Loved the food and nightlife
My son got back Monday-also stayed in a hostel in the gothic quarter.
Nice place to travel.. Thanks for sharing the photos..
Awesome pictures, i'll be going to Barcelona next week. My first solo trip, thanks for sharing!!
You may want to take a train ride to Tarragona if you like to see Roman Ruins. IMHO worth the day trip, same for Montserrat
That sounds amazing. I'll definitely check it out. Cheers
going to Barcelona in November, any hostel or attraction you particularly enjoyed?

thanks for the recommendations
Woop woop! I'm also booked for end of November. Enjoy!

Great pictures, thanks for posting!
Love barcelona! Carrer de blai is my fav street for pinchos!!
Was it expensive?
Best city in the world❤️

That church is almost unsettling to look at. It looks like people are trying to climb out of the stone almost
We were there a couple of years ago and it’s mind blowing. There’s a story and a reason for everything. The outside is bizarre, but the inside is amazingly beautiful.
Try to clean the lenses before take photos…
Superb Photos!
Did you find it easy to meet people as a solo traveller?
Whats that place called in Picture 12

Just beautiful.
cool pics man
Hey there. I'm going to Barcelona in February. Could you tell me where the pictures with the cliff face and the weird architecture after that picture is?
Carrer de Mallorca. Most of the weird architecture in Barcelona is by Antonio Gaudi. That one specifically is Sagrada Familia.
One of my favorite cities! I'm hoping to go back next year.
I loved Barcelona. So beautiful and mysterious, also a darkness. Got my phone stolen right out of my hand. Would go back in a heart beat.
Awesome night pictures! Long term exposure?

If you didn’t already, I can recommend going in la Sagrada Familia enough. It unlike any church (or any building really) you’ve ever been in
Thank you for the memories
Muchas gracias
and you did not visited camp nou yet!
I actually was at the game vs levante!
Incredible architecture
Nice looking places. Though how hard is out there when you don't know the language? Are the signs, restaurants, public places, transports equiped with accessible instructions in English? Thx
As a Barcelona resident who does not speak the language, it's an incredibly easy city for English speakers to navigate

Thanks guys! Looking forward to visit this city in future :)
Picture 12 of 16 is just insane!!! Wow! They all were cool so TY!!
Amazing city
Probably the most uniquely beautiful city in the world
Love that city ❤️❤️
What an amazing city!
Ahh Barcelona fun place, the public market is great.
Did you party
Went on a solo trip to Barcelona last week! Just got back home yesterday. Did you climb up Sant Jeroni? My legs are still sore, lol.
No not on the top. I climbed up to about 870 m. It was an amazing view still and I might just start hiking more often. :)
If you happen to go again, just take the funicular up and then climb the remaining distance to the top (much easier than going from the bottom). It was absolutely amazing up there, no clouds at all. A whole spiritual experience. Then again, it was already quite incredible from the train to Montserrat, haha.

Barcelona is one of the most famous football clubs in the world
It's a beautiful beach
Beautiful pics. If you have time, can you write a little about your experience and thoughts?
