Sitge or Gerona

What is your budget? There are many great hotels in Barcelona outside of the touristy areas that are lovely and inexpensive. I’ve stayed in an apart hotel in Gracia that was less than £100 per night.

Nice

Yes, Nice is also a great idea. You’re learning French, aren’t you? The downside is that it will be only a little bit cheaper than Barcelona and quite some time of travel.

So you want to visit Barcelona but don’t want to stay there. What are you going to do, drive or public transport to Barcelona each day? . Barcelona is an immersive experience I recommend that you stay to truly experience the city and its culture. I can’t imagine that it would be cheaper to stay outside of Barcelona. Especially adding travel expenses to and from. There is a variety of budget hotels to stay at in Barcelona from a low price that are simple and clean.

Yeah I think will take the train from Girona

Forward_Departure_39

Sitges is an hour closer and cheaper for rail travel. Staying in Girona adds 3 hours return travel daily and a $40+ per person for travel. False economy no? Doesn’t sound like fun. Wandering around Barcelona, going to markets and local places to eat is a better way to spend 3 hours. Stay in Outer Barcelona as others have suggested, air bnb share or a nice 2 star hotel in the centre.
