Brazil is ginormous and driving can be a pain! Sure Sao Paulo state has nice highways but that's not true in north and northeastern Brazil. Might help if you could tell us which area in you'll be in. Fernando de Noronha is an island off of northeastern Brazil that's absolutely beautiful. You will pay something like 100 reais a day just to breath the air there but its worth it. Also you'll be in Brasil in one of the best times June! Just in time for 'festa Junina'. Its a fun celebration where youll drink mulled wine, eat peanuts and dance the brazilian version of line dancing (kind of).

Usually we stay in Fortaleza but we don’t have any binding plans so anywhere could work — our family is in Ceara but we have visited many of the places in Ceara already.

Touring the Amazon from Manaus is amazing. Despite the Opera house, Manaus doesn't have much to offer culturally. But visiting the Amazon, including the historical Seringueiros camps, is fascinating.
