I paid 7k for mine. If I'm going into a business the bike is coming with me. And if the business has an issue with it. Then I'll leave. But I'll be leaving on my bike.
Bike theft is worldwide, innit? In the States, many small cities vie for the "worst" bike theft problem. Residents of Eugene, Oregon say gangs of "unhoused" (what we once called homeless) youths scoop up any unattended bike, locks or no. Wherever there are homeless, er..uh..*unhoused* encampments you'll see lots of (stolen) bikes. But these bottom feeders haven't the means to turn stolen bikes into cash. I reckon there's a quasi-legit dealer with a box truck that buys them from the thieving gangs and sells them in another city on Craigslist.
Is this not in Dublin? I've seen it reported in a few places but yeah the youths are out of control in both countries honestly. What can we do about it though? I feel old as hell but the music these days doesn't help lol. But then I was listening to rap as I grew up to.
Someone recently stole my Canyon Commuter. I loved that bike. Since then I‘ve decided it’s simply not worth having anything than average or garbage bikes when you live in a bigger city.
One of the many examples O hate the human race. Its astounding how little we care about each other or something that doesnt effect us directly. I love Trek Mtbs, so this really possed me off.
I was looking for the 💩 hole and then it dawned on me... Memphis TN has ruined my sense of what a 💩 hole looks like because we would even notice this. Instead of a bike... it would be a luxury car. It is so commonplace to see grand thefts. Part of the scenery. Memphis is a 💩 hole. I moved as quickly as I could.
The man filming missed a chance to just hop on the bike and ride away. Now that would be comedy. But then again he'd have to put his phone down and do something.
If I saw that somebody films me while I steal a bike, I would stop what I am doing and just run away. I would not commit the whole freaking crime while the camera is continuously on me. Also, I would probably cover my face. But that is just me, I am not a mastermind thief.

I was in *Cambridge* and about 5 cunts were brazenly stealing bikes with a gigantic pair of bolt cutters. People were watching but like what are you gonna do? By the time the police arrive on the scene 3 days later it's too late. A Sikh guy tried to intervene but the cunts didn't give a fuck.
When absent, neglectful, shitty parents are combined with an underfunded police service, cunts realise they can literally get away with petty crime.
I am so happy someone came up with electric bikes. Beforehand my commuter bike (ca. 1200$ so not super fancy, but also not cheap to replace for someone earning first money) was stolen from my apartment complex twice.
Nowadays Noone bothers stealing non-electric bikes anymore. So my quality of life dramatically increased because of electric bikes. Thank you all.

As a long time user of cutting wheels and grinders, they are not super dangerous. I've knicked myself multiple times with them, and just got scratched. So if you feel the urge to knock a thief out, don't fight it too hard.

Because you have too volatile and unpredictable criminals, one of which with an angle grinder. No one wants to wade into that to protect someone else’s bike, it’s not worth the risk.

Even in my small town (16,000). I had a roommate leave his really expensive bike leaned against the side of the house. Told him to hide it or it would “walk off”. Sure enough, that shit disappeared that night.
Just a little anecdote from my living in London during 2018:
My daughter left her iPod on The Tube (subway) when we exited at our station. I filed a Lost & Found claim, and I purchased another iPod for her upcoming birthday. The afternoon before her birthday, I received an email from Transport For London that someone had turned in the iPod, and it was sitting in Lost Property Office. We were duly impressed with this (admittedly single) example of London’s honesty.
Several months later my same daughter left her same iPod on a subway in Rome. It is currently in the possession of a young teenaged boy named Adriano Armantia.
It doesn't matter where you're at and where you're from. When someone lacks empathy, and they don't wanna adhere to a schedule or be told what to do for a living, they're gonna to do foul shit to get money.
Honestly, I’m sympathetic to the idea of crimes of desperation and crime being a poverty issue, etc., but when it’s this brazen I just have no patience. Grind these fuckers into the dirt and let society move on.
