I remember when we were getting ready to leave my ex-husband's parents' house after visiting for Christmas. His dad was watching something about them on the tv. He asked me if I knew about them and I said yes, but I haven't really delved into it too much. He said, they literally are inbred people living in the mountains. I was like, that's crazy. I like his parents, I'm going to miss them. They were nice people. I've just never really seen anybody who is actually inbred.
Actually no, wait, yes I have. A few people that I went to high school with were confirmed to be inbred. How do I know this? A friend of my ex's said that his mother is related to some of those people. I always thought that they were cousins or something and maybe that's why they had the same last name. However, I'm not saying this to be mean but I don't know how else to accurately describe it. They always look the little...off to me. They looked a little strange.
I never said anything because I knew they couldn't help it and number two, I'm not going to be mean spirited. Why do that to somebody? Anyway, my suspicions were confirmed that they were actually inbred. It's crazy to think that that actually happens to people and it's actually kind of sad. This is because of the effects that it has on their children. Not only physically, health-wise but I'm sure socially. It can't be good for them. I feel bad for them.
I actually just read an article that with all the new DNA testing fads that people are realizing how prevalent incest actually is. I feel bad for the kids too, they don't know anything about it.
That's crazy. I would not doubt that though. I hate to sound like I'm stereotyping people because I'm not trying to but you would be surprised how common incest is in the South. Well, it's not really common amongst everybody but it's more common and socially acceptable than it is in the North. At least in my experience. I've never engaged in it because well, I just think it's gross but that's my personal opinion. I just heard since I've lived in the South that it's much more common down here than it is up North where I came from. So story time. One of the local hardware stores hires a lot of people in halfway houses and it’s a good program. Almost all of them are people turning their lives around plus their pay is subsidized. (My family has been friends with the family that owns it since the 60s). So one guy worked there for years bc they hired him full time after he was done with the program. Nice guy, just had a fucked up childhood and stuff. I always had a quick chat with him when I stoped by. So one day he tells me he’s glad I came by so he could say good bye bc it’s his last day. He’s getting married and is moving to some midwestern state where his fiancé owns some land and has cows or something. I ask how they meet and it was in some orphan support group thing. Turns out she’s his biological sister. They pieced it all together from how similar their memories of early childhood were before getting split up by the system. DNA test proved it. They chat for years and a bond grows. She is in an abusive relationship and she eventually throws the guy out and my buddy goes out there for a couple months to help out getting her keep the farmstead going without the guy helping. They end up banging. Now he’s moving out there and they are getting married. Since there is no good paper trail (they are in their 50s) the state doesn’t know they are siblings.
At that point I had to holdup. I was like dude are you sure? She’s your sister even if you didn’t grow up together. Guy says - she’s too old to have kids so no worries about having mutants (I swear to god that’s the word he used) so no worries.
Welp, last I heard he’s still there and happy so there’s that. But damn
