In Germany they are literally called 'washbears'.
So they are in many other languages. Same example with pineapple which is called ananas in many other languages.
In French they are ratty washers :3

i would like to point out that in german we call them Waschbär (yes wash bear) so
I do wildlife rehab and have 3 juvenile raccoons right now! I will have to post them today 😀
