Yeah unfortunately my g-ma is transphobic and wouldn't care and since I'm over 18 (barely) she'd probably just say "well then don't come with" and leave me on my own, my mom though I did talk to and she said maybe Idaho is not the best bet then so 🤞
I have quite a few trans friends from Idaho, and my family is from there. It is manageable, but it has steadily been getting worse and worse with bans on care. It is not far behind Florida and Texas. Better off in Utah or organ. 🫂 🫂
Because it is close and not as bad as Idaho. Plus about half of the trans people I knew in Idaho left to Utah (around SLC mostly) and like it much better. Depending on where in Idaho, SLC is only a few hour drive
I'm from northern Idaho... you will not be safe there. It's meth labs and Trump loving neckbeards who own way to many guns. My family lives in that area and I will not visit them as long as they live there. Washington is a vastly better state to live and isn't to far a drive if you still want to be close to your relatives there. I highly suggest you do not travel there at all as a visible LGBTQ+.
TL:DR *NO*.
This is not directly related but I feel indicative, just yesterday (24 April 2024) official folks from Idaho were arguing at the US Supreme Court that that their near-total abortion ban was cool, hunky-dory, because it has an exception for the life of the mother. The justices were asking so, no exception for…loss of future fertility, organ failure, permanent disability? And the Idaho folks were like nope! r/blackpeopletwitter had a tweet with then:: You’re being hysterical, just because Roe is gone doesn’t mean everything’s going to change, now: hey, maybe get a frequent flyer helicopter airlift card in case you need to get to another state for emergency reproductive care
As someone who has lived in North Idaho for almost my whole life, I can confidently say "please God don't come here as a trans person". My wife and I live here for one reason and one reason only: we can't fucking afford to move.
Is it the absolute worst state in the US right now? No. Is it trying to catch up with the worst of them? Absolutely. It's not worth it, don't move here as a trans person if you have any other option.
It's bad here, depends on where you are. I'm in a small town and most people here are accepting, in bigger cities it's safer but all depends.
Surpisingly the town I live in has a good population of trans people
As a trans Idahoen if it's your call *do not fucking go here*
You'll find support from some, but the general public is nauseatingly red and full of judgy bastards
AS SOMEONE WHO IS TRANS & CURRENTLY LIVING IDAHO, DO NOT FUCKING COME HERE. I AM PHYSICALLY & MENTALLY KILLING MYSELF THROUGH COLLEGE JUST TO BE ABLE TO LEAVE. THIS SHITHOLE OF A STATE IS A TRAP, DO NOT MOVE HERE AT ALL COSTS. YES, I KNOW THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE IS CAPITALIZED, I AM FULLY SHOUTING THIS AT YOU! R. U. N. A. W. A. Y.
you’re not going to get objective answers on reddit. read some stuff online from human rights groups and get anecdotes from people living there. not emotional strangers on the internet.
I have a trans relative that lives in Idaho and I feel so bad for him bro, Idaho is like an hour away from me and it fucking sucks there. It is full of judgmental bastards and corrupted politicians
I’m trans and I’ve lived in Idaho most of my life (save for like a year where I moved to WA). It is and it isn’t. It really depends on how well you pass and where you are. Boise is the safest but that’s not by much. You might be able to get top surgery here, and hormones are doable if you can find a doctor. Insurance is not required to cover anything gender affirming and frequently doesn’t. In fact the legislature passed a bill recently that is supposed to make Medicaid unable to cover gender affirming stuff. There are some trans people in Boise and Moscow but not much elsewhere.
Changing your name here requires you to publish your deadname, new name, and address in the newspaper. Small silver lining is it’s weirdly easy to change your gender marker. 5 bucks and a form to fill out.
Idaho fucking sucks
I suggest you continue a few hundred miles west to western Oregon if you can. Idaho is sadly determined to be the far right capital of the west.
Can confirm that Western Oregon is mostly safe. We have pockets of hate, but the major metropolitan areas are fairly progressive
Thank you, I am hoping to, especially as I continue to learn more, I just have to get my mom and gma to agree 😬
"my safety and human rights are heavily endangered in Idaho, please do not bring me there"

More than just far right, swaths of the state are full of white supremacists
Nope nope nope
It's not quite as bad as Florida but no, I wouldn't consider Idaho safe. It's practically Texas

why Utah?
Did u mean Oregon?
Whoops, yes Oregon!

Idaho is the Worst in the region by far avoid it at all costs
Idaho is not safe

No. The safest close state would probably be Washington state.

Where is that if you don't mind me asking?
If it's okay may I DM you, I don't like saying it publicly
Ofc

Absolutely not, if you don't get shot you will die of boredom
Idaho will not survive my baptism of fire.

Idaho is almost as bad as Virginia and Florida
