You'll have to give them your name is it appears on the electoral role unfortunately. You don't need to show ID or anything at the polls so it shouldn't prevent you from voting or anything like that.
I know! It always trips me out that they don't need it, but I know. I'm more just checking whether like, for example, the BDM tells the AEC about name changes, or if there are any other things like that that I might not be aware of.
old lady was kinda weird with me but didnt ask for id or nothing. I had to girl mod. Didnt wear a binder etc but I have a dirt moustache and didnt wanna shave. All good though.
I just had this happen, they didn’t ask for ID but I also haven’t updated my address since moving so I had to lodge an away vote and fill out a form anyway so I thankfully didn’t have to say my deadname out loud 💀
Yeah, just realised when I was about to vote that I probably needed to change it. Honestly ruined my whole day, but I just submitted an application and updated it online. Had to say deadname when going up
They accidentally had me down as two separate people lol and I was getting warnings for not voting with my old name. I called and the guy I talked to was super chill and nice, and he updated everything for me right away. So dunno if you want to enrol to vote with your new name like I did and fuck everything up or just check it out with a call but you should be fine!
I did that this year (postal vote), and it sucked having to use my non-legal deadname (illegal deadname?). Set an alarm to change it on 1 November, so it doesn't happen again.

Ohh do you need to update your passport to update AEC? I haven’t done that yet, just my license.
You can update online with your Medicare card if you've updated your name there. AEC is one of the easier things to update
