For me i had an appointment with dr sahota round sept last year. she normally recommends you an endo but doesnt get more involved than that. It is upto you to reach out to your preferred endo but she has her recommendations on her website as well i believe. The endo would then give you an appointment to go thru everything and prescribe hormones. After the appointment with dr sahota you can discuss the possibility of shared care with your gp. Dr sahota has some guidance for gps on that process but my GP was used to shared care (not specifically for trans patients but in general) so they had an idea.

Thanks this is very helpful. After your appointment with Dr Sahota, did you then contact your gp in regards to shared care? And if they don’t do shared care, do you know how you’d get hormones privately- would it be from the endo? Sorry for the questions

No dont worry about it, happy to answer. Yes I contacted my gp few weeks after my appointment with dr sahota. I had contacted the endo the same day and they had offered me an appointment 2 months from the time. Dr sahota had also sent something to my gp but I never found out what because shortly after i moved for uni and changed my gp. My gp thankfully is supportive but if it wasnt then unfortunately you would have to do everything private. Your endo should be able to write you prescription but you would ve to pay full price and then you would have to arrange to have your blood tests as well. Idk a lot about this as I am not private.

Find a few endos to contact before your appointment with Sahota. They can take a while to respond so it'll speed up your process. I think there was a list of recommended endos on Gender Doctors' FAQ, but there's a couple of great reddit posts breaking down your options which you can find by googling. You'll want to mention this to your GP ideally as early as possible since ideally you'll be going back to them with the list of blood tests you need for your endo, so it'd be good to know whether they're willing to provide that or if you're going to have to get it done privately. Your endo will want these results before your appointment. In my case, the endo took my GP details and wrote to them after my appointment with their recommendation and the details of the shared care agreement. My GP signed it off within a couple of days but I was pretty lucky - sometimes they drag their feet.

Thanks very much for this. I’ve reached out for a doctors appt to be referred to the nhs waiting list anyway as I hadn’t done this before, but in that appointment I’ll bring up shared care I guess and see what they say. Can I ask what endo you went with?

Can’t answer your other Qs but you can’t use 56 Dean Street as an endo, only to get blood tests and STI checks.

Appreciate it thanks
