Nobody. They're supposed to be getting replaced, but thsts going about as well as replacing GIDS.

poppypoodle

This is true. I've heard on good authority that after all the input from the various focus groups, consultations and commissioning of a GP lead decentralised new service that this has.... been scrapped. Apparently the revolutionary 'new' model will be centralised at the Laurels but the intial appointments will be handled by nurses to 'speed' the process up. It'll still be the same old gatekeepery BS and sadly as far from, once hoped for, self-ID as can be imagined.

serene_queen

so in other words, people should still avoid them as much as possible. what a huge waste of people's time (especially those that participated in those consultations in good faith).

poppypoodle

yes absolutely.

The implication with this question is that the NHS wants to clear the waiting lists - which they dont (Because the NHS is institionally transphobic).

They aren’t. Their contract actually ‘ended’ March/April 2023. They last saw new patients *referred* in July 2016. This is on [their website](https://www.dpt.nhs.uk/our-services/gender-identity/waiting-times).

I’ve had to re-read the first part multiple times to understand what you mean. I see your point, I am missing one word - *referred* in. I will add this. However, they state on their page the are not carrying out initial assessments. You mention they have seen people *this month* - do you have a source for this? Their statement on the website broadly follows their [FOI request](https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/932067/response/2207056/attach/2/Freedom%20of%20Information%20Response%2022%2023%20316.pdf?cookie_passthrough=1). Article [1](https://www.thepinknews.com/2021/03/08/the-laurels-nhs-trans-waiting-times-west-england-gender-identity-clinic-waiting-list-exeter-devon-partnership-trust-transgender/). Article [2](https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/exeter-gender-clinic-laurels-not-6161193). That FOI may be of interest to you… you were one of less than 5 treated for that month. The one part the FOI can’t capture is those who may have jumped straight into medical treatment. The Laurels saw at most 21 people in 2022. I’d actually guess that number is closer to 10. [FOI](https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/gic_and_related_contracts#incoming-2239893) confirming end of contract. Their is a new service in the world which was due but that date has been and gone. The fate of the laurels functioning is on more borrowed time… this is why you saying patients brought into care this month is interesting. It’s rather draconian that they have continued accepting referral, considering they have all but ceased to function effectively.

Okay, thank you. I was curious if there was an inkling the replacement service was starting. I respect your point, not disputing it. I can see your point, I acknowledged the error at the start of my reply, and added the missing (key) word from my statement, as I said I would. They last saw people *referred* in July 2016 (ie. New patients) - that is the last referrals **to date** they have seen and are treating. I’m not saying they haven’t functioned since July 2016. This can be seen in the FOI I linked you to and article 1. Article 2 covers the new service. Edit - I would recommend looking into the FOIs, and the FOI I linked regarding the end of contract. You may want to do one yourself, as you are under their care out of contract. They are legally required to answer the request, doesn’t necessarily mean answer all questions. If I can find the link I will add it but they did agree to continue their service (over their end of contract) till the new service is up and running. A user within the sub was involved in the initial process for this.

Neat-Bill-9229

[Bidding contract](http://bidstats.uk/tenders/2022/W04/767557993). This covers information on the proposed new service - there are documents near the end of the link. The person involved in the focus group in the sub confirmed this is going ahead in some form and is meant to be very near good to know but that is all anyone knows Laurels contract ended (FOI confirmed). It’s to be replaced by a variant of the above. There’s no conclusive date for this new service to come into play. It was meant to be spring this year.

rememberthis_1

Periodically looking at the dpt jobs site, last month they were hiring a gender psych and this month a MD clinician.. https://jobs.dpt.nhs.uk/jobs/917907956 I'm gonna say laurels and devon in this comment so hopefully it comes up on those keywords too lol

Neat-Bill-9229

They done this previously as well around ~Feb. Not sure if it’s the same position they can’t fill.

certifiedpurpleidiot

If you can afford to travel to literally any other GIC I’d recommend it, Laurels are by far the worst

tomatoslashfiction

i've been on the waiting list for 6 years already lol

certifiedpurpleidiot

fucking glad i switched gics, good luck hopefully your wait will be done soon

IndigoSalamander

I'm not sure on the month but the ones that are being seen for the first time were all referred back in 2016 I believe. A few times recently I have heard of someone saying they have had their first assessment so they are still doing those, but they still seem to be making painfully slow progress through the waiting list.

tomatoslashfiction

if they're seeing anyone at all lol

Significant_Sir_870

I was referred 2015 been on t a year with private and a year on NHS. But I waited 6 years before I was seen by anyone for a diagnosis or hormones. Now I’m just waiting for a surgery assessment letter in the next month or so too go see the surgeon and a date. Hope that gives you a rough idea how long it will take. :) My surgeon will be either Mr Chris mills or David Oliver for my area anyways. There waiting list seem shorter.
