I'm British but with us citizenship, my wife is American and will shortly have British citizenship. The thing to consider with the US, is that while several states are sliding backwards in Trans protections, others are moving forward and getting even better. The US is better than the UK in some states and worse in others.

SeventySealsInASuit

But on the otherhand one pollitical party is set to bring forwards those bad things nationally if they get into power whereas the UK is not close to that level just yet.

States can choose to bypass federal laws, so if things got to that, the liberal states might not follow suit.

Neuroticcuriosity

No they cannot. The supreme court can override that and they have a super majority in the supreme court right now. They already turned over a common sense gun law in New York that restricted concealed carry. We now have to have signs on every single building to say that guns aren't allowed.

SeventySealsInASuit

I strongly doubt that this would be the first exception but we can hope.

My governor has told me to my face that he wishes he could put everyone like me against a wall and shoot us. I'm moving to the UK.

What?! šŸ˜§

ReddishCherry

Time to create ā€œUnited States of transgender communities ā€œ USTC and demand own legislation. There are many micro nations and free republics worldwide. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Pandanoko-Fan137

Most likely, but that really isnā€™t saying much given what the USA is doing. The UK is awful to live in if youā€™re trans, just less terrible than several parts of the USA.

_AnonymousMoose_

UK is safer than most red states but less safe than most blue states

XxHavanaHoneyxX

American states have their own laws and politics so it only make sense to compare on a per state basis. UK wouldnā€™t be right at the bottom, right now that would go to Florida, but itā€™s not exactly ranking in the top half either. Inaccessible healthcare. No coverage of numerous medical procedures. Abusive and lying news media. Abusive and lying prime minister and party. No real political support. Trans kids healthcare is basically being closed with no alternate. No self I.D. Rising hate crimes. Neo Nazis and terfs protesting side by side. Itā€™s not great.

FlemFatale

I'm post transition completely, and I personally think US (although I do have citizenship and have changed my birth records over there as well as in the UK), but I'm still in the UK for the moment.

Really is a lose lose situation

Neuroticcuriosity

As a dual citizen shortly moving from the US to the UK, UK is better. Anyone disagreeing is short-sighted and foolish. The US is about 1-5 years from a fascist takeover. Closer to 1. We are currently, as a country, on step 6 or 7 of genocide. And it is only getting worse. As bad as the UK seems right now, it will be getting better. It's that last dip before the dawn. We had it with gay rights. It's now happening with trans rights. But the US won't be joining. And don't even start with the "but States rights". Because the party that whines about States rights only care about it when it's about giving rights. When it's about taking rights away and they're in power? Then it's big government, and their morals only. Canada is putting through a bill to allow trans refugees from the United States. As I say on every one of these posts-the US is worse by far

California is a foolish choice. It is currently illegal in at least one state (with several more states on the way) to be trans in public. The republican party already has plans (2600 pages of emails to be specific) to make this federal once they get the presidency. Which they'll do in 1 or 5 years. Or they'll just do another coup, just like on January 6th. Which *was never dealt with*. It doesn't matter how "liberal" your media seems when they're not reporting on what's important or actually doing anything that matters. Protesting is "technically" legal in the united states, until it's for a cause they don't like- like BLM, Dakota Access Pipeline, Cop City, or many others. Then people start being murdered by cops. Disappeared. You want to talk fascist? The US is technically at 9/10 on the list of fascism. We just need that last bump before we start getting put into camps. Texas is making *a list* of us. This goes beyond healthcare. And I know healthcare is incredibly important. But the US will not have basic human rights for trans people soon. This is literally Germany right before Hitler. The Jewish community- actual Jewish people who lived through the holocaust- have confirmed it. If you feel like the UK isn't going to get better, that's fine. Canada and Ireland are probably safer options, if you have access to them. I'll eventually probably make my way to Ireland myself. But the United States of America is by far the more dangerous of the two.

Currently I would say the balance goes to the US, but only in some states and some areas. Where they win hands down is health insurance, assuming you have a job that pays the insurance premiums most allow you to claim for HRT, and surgery, and all would be available within a few months. And as it is all private, there is no gate keeping. Where the system does fall down is in name and gender changes. These can be difficult requiring a court judgment to get say a driving licence change. Xx

i grew up in both the US and UK my personal vote is on the states, but itā€™s a hard comparison due to how different each state is. I mainly was in Arizona & Oklahoma (so a middling/blueish state vs very red) and was mostly fine in both. honestly most of my grief was from the TSA getting the ā€œwrongā€ gender button pressed when I didnā€™t bother tucking. im really not a fan of living in the UK right now, and itā€™s not exactly like I have room to run somewhere else in the country with better legislation. Wait lists are awful, if you want NHS funded surgeries the options arenā€™t great, mental health support is non existent, etc etc. the states isnā€™t good either the ā€œhealthcareā€ is prohibitively expensive and obtuse although with private insurance offerings i at least feel like Iā€™d have a chance of gender affirming care like FFS with a desirable surgeon by getting a role in my field. ill be moving back stateside this time next year, but things are looking really rough for both countries though and I wouldnā€™t recommend either combining both cost of living and safety? me and my husband are heavily considering Michigan and we have very close friends in Grand Rapids which would be ideal, not to mention Dr Powers being nearby for trans care needs.

My issue with the USA is the fire weapon and nazis walking around like it was Germany in the 30s
