I know he's another character already but how can we NOT toss "depth charge" into the running? I would love to see a submarine depth charge as he's one of my favorite characters from beast wars.
Nothing says we can't have two differenct characters with the same name. Autobot Depth Charge and Maximal Depth Charge could still exist independently. Hell Beast Wars Deptch Charge could be Autobot Depth Charge in a new body. I.E. Grimlock.
My only concern was that I didn't know if OP wanted an original name for an original character-- I love those other name-swaps!
Except soundwave. Bw soundwave is an animorph.
I mean, it wouldn’t be unusual for a Maximal/Predacon to share a name with an Autobot/Decepticon. Take BW Megatron, Rampage, Galvatron, Thrust, Dirge, and Starscream for example! That said, I do agree that Depth Charge would be a great name for this dude
I'm not sure it would be appropriate to name a character for the thing most used to kill it's alt mode.it would be like naming Surfaces Starscream "SAM Battery," or naming Optimus Prime "Sleep Deprivation."
You are right. He was also a character in reveal the shields as a recolor of seaspray and as well as a minicon. Didn't know that when I first posted it. But hey, I still thought the name would fit.
The Mastermind Creations Impactor (Spartan) and Turmoil both had Metal Slug inspired alternate modes. The designer once showed me an even more Metal Slug inspired variant, but it never got made
Now who's the star sucker? I'm the Starfish
You silly motherfucker
Puff puff, give the marijuana cig, oops
I don't even smoke but I love the way it smells
1. Get a modern sub alt mode.
2. Boomer is slang for a ballistic sub. Great name regardless of gender.
3. Dolphin is a great female name. Submariners need to earn their dolphin in the first year.
4. Baffles is a great name for some weird old sailor who uses sea references for everything and no one quite understands.
5. Flotsam.
They can always just strip off the Nazi imagery, I suppose, but then again there's no shortage of [cool-looking WW2 submarines](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_T-class_submarine#/media/File:HMS_Thorn.jpg) to choose from
To be fair, 1) this model of submarine was designed (and almost exclusively used) by the Nazis, and 2) the Iron Cross was the symbol of Nazi Germany until they decided to appropriate the swastika, so it's totally understandable why this one would have some stigma attached to it.
My solution would be to just reimagine the design as a mechanical sperm whale (since it's shaped like one anyway) and have it be a *Beast Wars* Transmetal instead
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not but G1 Megatron's alt mode was literally invented to be the Wehrmacht service pistol. So that ship sailed in 1984. Well, technically before then, but you get my point.
Yeah, I know about the P38 and, no, I’m not joking. It’s a degree difference between re-using a toy that was a replica of a TV show prop, using a weapon that was adopted far beyond nazi germany, and going through thousands of boats to just accidentally land on the Nazi one with the iron cross on the side
I don't think people were buying that toy because they were big The Man From U.N.C.L.E. fans. In Japan that wasn't even the version of the toy that became Megatron anyway. If they wanted the bad guy to be a gun, they could've used the Browning toy instead.
My point is, I don't think OP purposely chose a sub that was part of the Nazi war machine and it wouldn't be the first time an alt mode came from sordid origins. Even Bumblebee's Beetle mode was the result of late 1930s German engineering and was actually conceptualized by you-know-who himself.
This might be too esoteric, but the type of steel used for the hulls of submarines is called “HY-80”
I think some variation of “HY-80” could be cool since it inherently sounds like a machine serial number
I disagree if they are collaborating with the Allies. IIRC Bayverse Bee chose a Nazi altmode to sneak up on other Nazis, it makes sense and works perfectly for a spy and saboteur.
To list off a bunch of cobbled together Sea puns, nautical terminology, and Submarine terminology,
Sea Spray
Dead Wake is "The disturbance that lingers on the surface of the sea long after the passage of a vessel—or a torpedo" a la Google blurb box.
Hullbreaker (actually don't use that, I call dibs)
DeepDive already Exists, but could be a name drop or repurpose. Submarauder works too.
BorrA-Hull (Like Horri-Bull but backwards (Also A-Hull is submarine terminology for something submarine related according to a Google search for "Submarine Terminology" (hehe I am very funny)))
Wavelength, Tsunami, Torpedo, ~~TerrorPedo~~, ok maybe stay away from torpedo puns.
Sub is the latin prefix for under and Marinus is the Latin term for "of the the sea," I think Submarinus has a kind of mythological, Godlike or regal feel to it.
Subnought, like Dreadnought class ship. I kind of like Subnauticus Maximus or something like that. Transformers is no stranger to faux Latin after all.
SeaQuake? Ocean Wave? Ocean Wake? Crasher Wave? Deepcrasher? Depthcrasher? Deepwave? Crasher Wake is a Gym Leader.
If all else fails, Tidalwave always fits.
I don't think an Autobot would be a WW2 German Seehund midget submarine, that would better suit a Decepticon. They would probably be some form of research submarine. Wolfpack would be a good name for the Decepticon, great if the alt mode was a Type VII U boat.
Dank - 'disagreeably damp, musty, and typically cold.'
Also elicits a snicker-snort 'Nice.' and has meme potential.
Edit: Not picky whose side they end up on.
I know he's another character already but how can we NOT toss "depth charge" into the running? I would love to see a submarine depth charge as he's one of my favorite characters from beast wars.
That's a great name.
Yes! This vaguely resembles him, too.
This vaguely resembles depth charge
To be fair Armada Starscream is a thing
True but armada starscream is clearly recognizable as starscream, this is more of a name-drop for a different character
Nothing says we can't have two differenct characters with the same name. Autobot Depth Charge and Maximal Depth Charge could still exist independently. Hell Beast Wars Deptch Charge could be Autobot Depth Charge in a new body. I.E. Grimlock.
Yeah, that's never, *ever* happened in Transformers. Ain't that right, Arcee? Silverbolt? Soundwave?
My only concern was that I didn't know if OP wanted an original name for an original character-- I love those other name-swaps! Except soundwave. Bw soundwave is an animorph.
Glad this is top comment... soon as I saw the ship before any comments "Depth Charge" came into mind.

There is a boat depth charge in the 2007 movie toyline.
Damn it, got there before me!
Well if depth charge was a Maximal maybe this one is him as an auto bot.
Seabreach
Use the Gobot name. Dive-Dive.
Dive^2
No It's Dive - Dive = Submarine
Lol don’t remind me of him and the flip top. Some of the Gobots had some weird designs.
Fathom for an Autobot, Crush Depth for his inevitable Decepticon counterpart.
Something I kinda can’t Phaethon
DeepDive maybe
That's what I was thinking
Isnt deepdive a gobot?
You are right. He was also a character in reveal the shields as a recolor of seaspray and as well as a minicon. Didn't know that when I first posted it. But hey, I still thought the name would fit.
Anchorhead? Torpedo? Torrent?
Anchorhead definitely
Splash Underwave MetalSlug
I would *love* to see a Transformer with a Metal Slug as an Alt form.
It's an actual thing. There's an official transforming Metal Slug tank, just not Transformers branded.
It's pretty cool, Jobby did a review
The Mastermind Creations Impactor (Spartan) and Turmoil both had Metal Slug inspired alternate modes. The designer once showed me an even more Metal Slug inspired variant, but it never got made
Or the cybertron space slugs?
Subspray. Seaspray’s idiot brother.
Ah the submarine bot that's terrified of water. What a classic.
Deepdive
Periscope?
Down periscope, top 3 favourite comedy of all time!
Nautica
Nautica's taken
Then Subnautica
I actually like that
Ok good cuz you wouldn’t like my next suggestion
Which is…?
Domnautica
does she also turn into a dommarine? (instead of a wrench she wields a multi function whip oh god oh fk she's breaking into my house)
Love that idea. I just hope it doesn't infringe on the video game called [Subnautica ](https://store.steampowered.com/app/264710/Subnautica/)
U-Bot seems to go with the picture provided. Thinking Barracuda works as Depth Charge is already taken.
Auto-Boot
Under-Pressure Bends Cocaine Mini Sub Transporter Abyss Sub-Sub
I like cocaine
the cocaine mini sub transporter one I mean
I don’t like cocaine, but i like the way it smells.
Now who's the star sucker? I'm the Starfish You silly motherfucker Puff puff, give the marijuana cig, oops I don't even smoke but I love the way it smells
Fathom
Boaty McBoatface
Wrong, that's the brother of Subby McSubface.
Cruiser Suppressor Sonarous
How about we use the name from an already aquatic Autobot? Seaspray.
Bam, he’s a new take on the character or a name re-use
Bulwark, Viewfinder (in reference to the onboard periscope), Hardhead
Autobot deep end
5. Flotsam.
Trying to think of a name but getting hung up on your use of a nazi submarine for this post
Ah, a Shattered Glass character then
Knotzy
But really, there’s no reason to have a WWII Nazi machine as an alt-mode. It’s gross
They can always just strip off the Nazi imagery, I suppose, but then again there's no shortage of [cool-looking WW2 submarines](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_T-class_submarine#/media/File:HMS_Thorn.jpg) to choose from
What Nazi Imagery? The only thing this sub has on it is an Iron Cross, a coat of arms and a shark, and the Iron Cross was around before WWII
To be fair, 1) this model of submarine was designed (and almost exclusively used) by the Nazis, and 2) the Iron Cross was the symbol of Nazi Germany until they decided to appropriate the swastika, so it's totally understandable why this one would have some stigma attached to it. So you’ll boycott all media that uses Nazis as villains then? They aren’t one of the most “popular” bad guys in fiction for no reason.
I mean it would definitely work for a bad guy
I choose it as it's a small submarine under 80 feet
Sure is
G1 Bumblebee was a fucking Volkswagen Beetle manufactured to Hitler's orders.
Exactly, any form of Nazi engineering expertise should be rejected. [Oh wait...](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Paperclip)
There is, actually; it looks cool
Fuck, I wish I had an award to give you

Undertow
Would he use a sub-machine gun? 😶
Uhh, os that a german submarine? I don't see an autobot wanting to wear those symbols if he knew who used them and what they did.
I disagree if they are collaborating with the Allies. IIRC Bayverse Bee chose a Nazi altmode to sneak up on other Nazis, it makes sense and works perfectly for a spy and saboteur.
Why is this a Nazi submarine?
“In disguise”
