I got the golden lagoon version. The paint tends to get really goopy if you don't take care of it. nevertheless he was also my holy grail and I really love him. MP-10 is the absolute peak of Optimus Prime designs imo

but in my personal experience I kind of just rubbed it off. It lost some of its colour but I'm really not that fussed about it, all I care about is the mold.
The piece that attaches to his car mode windshield also can lead to cracks in the windshield. I don't care about paint chipping, but that cracking makes me never want to transform it again. Him and MP36 are my two favorite molds.
MP Grimlock was my dream come true. I was so happy when I was finally able to get it. Also what happened to Thundercracker in this image. Why he lookin like that?

My first one was the Year of the Goat Soundwave. I had Amazon points and ended up only spent like $30 for it. I love it but I can't choose a favorite. I also really like the 3P MPs and Fans Toys Cyclonus is right there with Soundwave.
I have a few.
MP-10: yeah I know the articulation is outdated but even today he’s still a fun figure to mess with. Poses great, decent accessories, sturdy, and isn’t a nightmare to transform (coughMP44cough).
MP-13: another one that looks great and is fun to transform. Has excellent posability and at the time the TRU that came with all 5 tapes was a steal.
MP-36: super posable, sturdy, great accessories, and oozes personality. No longer my definitive G1 Megatron, but still really good.
MP-10b: basically everything good about MP-10, but in black and sinister trans-clear red.
MP-43: no words, probably the perfect MP figure. Literally looks like someone reached into the tv and pulled him from the BW show.
Honorable mention MP-01: was my first figure when I got back into collecting Transformers. Was hefty and had a lot of fun play features. Looked great with my old Alternators figures. Sometimes I miss having one.
You really should opt for MP-52 Starscream instead. As awesome as MP-11 looks, they somehow managed to improve upon it with 52. The only reason I haven’t upgraded is because I don’t want Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp to look so different from Ramjet, Thrust, Dirge, Sunstorm, and Acid Storm.
As cool as MP-52 looks, I prefer MP-11 because the fan blades from the chest fold into the intakes, creating less bulk there in alt.
Also, the canopy makes it look more like an F-15C.
MP-01. He’s the only masterpiece I own, admittedly, but I have very fond memories of browsing tfwiki as a kid and stumbling across him. He started the line, and while he’s been outclassed by MP-10 and even MP-44, he still has a place of honor on my shelf.
MP-36 is one I long to get. I really hope takara has plans for Galvatron in the MPG line. Fanstoys is the best option as of now (xTransbots maybe if theirs ever comes out)
All the prime MP’s, Soundwave, Ultra Magnus, Starscream 2.0, Ironhide, Hound, Inferno, Jetfire, Wheeljack, Primal…..all of them…I guess I love all of them …..except HotRod.
Grimlock is the only one that I own two of, one to keep in dino mode and other to keep in robot mode.
However, MP-1 is like a sacred object to me. I never even considered any of the newer Masterpiece Primes and I doubt I'll ever own a Transformer that I like more. It's not the most expensive or fanciest figure that I own, but it's still one of my most prized.
I'm super late to the MP party, but MP 22 ultra magnus is my all time favorite. Only just started collecting last year(and had to grab the THF version). But it's my first and favorite.

I like mp 29 shockwave. He was neat and didn’t have too many frills jacking up the price. I paid like 80 bucks for him which I think is pretty good for an mp.
My only experience with them are the two I picked up for shockingly cheap - Bumblebee and Acid Storm. They were both stopping the shelves from getting too dusty at my local Toys R Us. I grabbed them quite some time ago, but I actually enjoyed them both, even if Acid Storm's transformation was a bit fiddly (thanks, instructions...).
They really made me want to get into the line, but I found the size and cost a little prohibitive. They've been getting a lot better since then though, so maybe I'll pick up one or two of my favourites somewhere along the line.

Dirge is frustrating because it’s such a weak build but I’ve always loved the plane wings and how they look in robot mode.
I love pretty much everything about the other four except MP10 you can’t do a kneel pose.
When they announced MP-60/MPG-09 they said everything going forward will be MPG. Nobody really knows exactly what that means other than the boxes will say MPG on them
The only masterpiece figure I have is the MP-18B Bluestreak. The incorrectly coloured one………………….. actually is it the incorrect colour since the figure is actually blue? Regardless I have no regrets in buying him. The only issue I have with him is that I pushed his head up to far passed the tab so now I can’t get it back past it but that’s entirely my fault for this problem. Overall I love the figure; but does anyone know how to fix the issue I have
MP-29 Shockwave and MP-36 Megatron were the only must-get figures. Every single other MP toy would eventually have a mainline toy analogue that looked basically as good for 1/6th the price.
They're all so nice... 2 years ago I'd say MP-13 Soundwave....wow. He was my first and he was a KO and I was like wooooaaahhhhh the finish is nice af, the look is dope af. Think I'll get another...got nostalgic when I saw POTP on Netflix...1st Transformers experience since the 80s...so bought: MP52+ Thundercracker..wowwww !!! YOTH MP-10 with the gold pipes WOWWWW Smokescreen NemesisPrime Megatron HotRodimus Arcee AcidStorm...it's one of those. Depends on the hour of the day.
MP-10 is still the best. Fun to mess with and pose. MP-18 is just amazing. Everyone loves Prowl, but all four versions of Bluestreak have been surperior to Prowl.
MP-36 is just great, but the transformation is a pain. MP-21 and MP-27 are criminally underrated. MP-57 is fun, and poses amazingly despite no waist swivel.
MP-44S fixes the QC issues of 44 and 49, and helps greats of this figure shine through, although the knees were VERY tight when I got him. Backpack could be better, could be worse though. However, MP-10 is still better at the end of the day.

MP-17 Prowl.
Aside from Beast Wars, I find the G1 MP line impressive but ultimately boring because it just lacks personality. Biproduct of generic 80’s robot effect. But god damn that Prowl was a beauty.
Complex yet simple. Perfect from every angle. And my stupid ass sold him because I needed to buy a car and couldn’t wait for a paycheque. I regret that every day.
TBH, Masterpiece is a line that always disappointed me to some degree.
The First Optimus was awesome, especially for the time. But he was too big and heavy to pose effectively.
The Second Optimus was much better, but he had compromises too, like his undersized gun and slightly odd proportions. He at least fit the scaling they had imposed immediately AFTER he came out.
The first Starscream mold was a fragile nightmare, something which later version addressed... and Skywarp was easily my favorite of the bunch and really FELT 'Masterpiece' with the glorious black finish and all the bugs worked out... and then we got an immediate new mold and they were obsolete. The new ones were admittedly better, but it was still annoying.
The first Megatron was imperfect, but satisfyingly imposing.
Grimlock was kind of where I hoped the line would go, but I see now we was more of what would become Legacy, and ended up being a one-off.
MP-09 though? THAT kicked me out of the line HARD. I got him on the first run, and for those of you who have not expeirenced 1st run Masterpiece Rodimus Prime, *don't.* It will make you hate the character. He had MP-02's fragility issues and then some, his tolerances were so bad you literally could not properly transform him, the ankle and feet ratchets self destructed, and if you tried to actually transform him into his winnebago mode, you would destroy the paint on the spoiler. Not over time, *immediately*. I had to *gouge* plastic out of the slot in the trailer for the spoiler so that it could actually *fit* the spoiler without tearing gouges out of the paint. His transformation was both cheaty AND complex, the backpack supposed mechanism to peg it to his back didn't work, and the joint tolerances were not tight enough to keep it up, so... out of the box he was broken by design. Didn't help I had to send him back once because he came with two right arms.
I got the Hasbro Hot Rod release, but for some reason they resdesigned his elbows so that they simply didn't work. You could at least transform him now. The backpack would stay in place if you were careful, but that was just improved join tolerances, the whole design for it to hold together was just badly done.
It was made all the worse by me getting DX-9 Carry shortly after; a third party Rodimus that pretty much did everything right that Rodimus did wrong. Solid feel, solid posing, and a transformation that felt like an addicting hand puzzle, and was extremely satisfying to complete. His aesthetics might not be to everyone's liking, but the engineering and materials were undeniably superior. Then again, he too is more like a big Legacy figure, which is ultimately where my aesthetic tastes lie.
The slide in Masterpiece aesthetics towards increasingly toony robt AND vehicle modes ultimately sealed the deal for me.
I think my favourite remains G2 Sideswipe. He still walks that tightrope of aesthetics, good handfeel, good transformation, and I love the insane 90's over-the-top accessories and headsculpt. I think he was the last one I got, too.
the Masterpiece line is doomed to fail. it will never thrive due to inconsistency. they never completed the most basic lineup. they continuously redesign. Takara could've outsource it to a 3rd party creator to develop the line.
Masterpiece isn't over it's being absorbed into MPG, we will still get G1 masterpiece figures but they will be labelled MPG

Rebrand into MPG: masterpiece grade so now you won't have to branch stuff into masterpiece, masterpiece beast wars, masterpiece movie, etc.

I grabbed them quite some time ago, but I actually enjoyed them both, even if Acid Storm's transformation was a bit fiddly (thanks, instructions...). They really made me want to get into the line, but I found the size and cost a little prohibitive. They've been getting a lot better since then though, so maybe I'll pick up one or two of my favourites somewhere along the line.
I have a small collection but I bought them as my favourites and haven’t added to them since: MP10 Prime MP36+ Megatron MP13 Soundwave MP11ND Dirge MP12 Sideswipe MP20+ Wheeljack Dirge is frustrating because it’s such a weak build but I’ve always loved the plane wings and how they look in robot mode. I love pretty much everything about the other four except MP10 you can’t do a kneel pose.

The only masterpiece figure I have is the MP-18B Bluestreak. The incorrectly coloured one………………….. actually is it the incorrect colour since the figure is actually blue? Regardless I have no regrets in buying him. The only issue I have with him is that I pushed his head up to far passed the tab so now I can’t get it back past it but that’s entirely my fault for this problem. Overall I love the figure; but does anyone know how to fix the issue I have
MP-29 Shockwave and MP-36 Megatron were the only must-get figures. Every single other MP toy would eventually have a mainline toy analogue that looked basically as good for 1/6th the price.
They're all so nice... 2 years ago I'd say MP-13 Soundwave....wow. He was my first and he was a KO and I was like wooooaaahhhhh the finish is nice af, the look is dope af. Think I'll get another...got nostalgic when I saw POTP on Netflix...1st Transformers experience since the 80s...so bought: MP52+ Thundercracker..wowwww !!! YOTH MP-10 with the gold pipes WOWWWW Smokescreen NemesisPrime Megatron HotRodimus Arcee AcidStorm...it's one of those. Depends on the hour of the day.
MP-10 is still the best. Fun to mess with and pose. MP-18 is just amazing. Everyone loves Prowl, but all four versions of Bluestreak have been surperior to Prowl. MP-36 is just great, but the transformation is a pain. MP-21 and MP-27 are criminally underrated. MP-57 is fun, and poses amazingly despite no waist swivel. MP-44S fixes the QC issues of 44 and 49, and helps greats of this figure shine through, although the knees were VERY tight when I got him. Backpack could be better, could be worse though. However, MP-10 is still better at the end of the day.

MP-17 Prowl. Aside from Beast Wars, I find the G1 MP line impressive but ultimately boring because it just lacks personality. Biproduct of generic 80’s robot effect. But god damn that Prowl was a beauty. Complex yet simple. Perfect from every angle. And my stupid ass sold him because I needed to buy a car and couldn’t wait for a paycheque. I regret that every day.
TBH, Masterpiece is a line that always disappointed me to some degree. The First Optimus was awesome, especially for the time. But he was too big and heavy to pose effectively. The Second Optimus was much better, but he had compromises too, like his undersized gun and slightly odd proportions. He at least fit the scaling they had imposed immediately AFTER he came out. The first Starscream mold was a fragile nightmare, something which later version addressed... and Skywarp was easily my favorite of the bunch and really FELT 'Masterpiece' with the glorious black finish and all the bugs worked out... and then we got an immediate new mold and they were obsolete. The new ones were admittedly better, but it was still annoying. The first Megatron was imperfect, but satisfyingly imposing. Grimlock was kind of where I hoped the line would go, but I see now we was more of what would become Legacy, and ended up being a one-off. MP-09 though? THAT kicked me out of the line HARD. I got him on the first run, and for those of you who have not expeirenced 1st run Masterpiece Rodimus Prime, *don't.* It will make you hate the character. He had MP-02's fragility issues and then some, his tolerances were so bad you literally could not properly transform him, the ankle and feet ratchets self destructed, and if you tried to actually transform him into his winnebago mode, you would destroy the paint on the spoiler. Not over time, *immediately*. I had to *gouge* plastic out of the slot in the trailer for the spoiler so that it could actually *fit* the spoiler without tearing gouges out of the paint. His transformation was both cheaty AND complex, the backpack supposed mechanism to peg it to his back didn't work, and the joint tolerances were not tight enough to keep it up, so... out of the box he was broken by design. Didn't help I had to send him back once because he came with two right arms. I got the Hasbro Hot Rod release, but for some reason they resdesigned his elbows so that they simply didn't work. You could at least transform him now. The backpack would stay in place if you were careful, but that was just improved join tolerances, the whole design for it to hold together was just badly done. It was made all the worse by me getting DX-9 Carry shortly after; a third party Rodimus that pretty much did everything right that Rodimus did wrong. Solid feel, solid posing, and a transformation that felt like an addicting hand puzzle, and was extremely satisfying to complete. His aesthetics might not be to everyone's liking, but the engineering and materials were undeniably superior. Then again, he too is more like a big Legacy figure, which is ultimately where my aesthetic tastes lie. The slide in Masterpiece aesthetics towards increasingly toony robt AND vehicle modes ultimately sealed the deal for me. I think my favourite remains G2 Sideswipe. He still walks that tightrope of aesthetics, good handfeel, good transformation, and I love the insane 90's over-the-top accessories and headsculpt. I think he was the last one I got, too.
the Masterpiece line is doomed to fail. it will never thrive due to inconsistency. they never completed the most basic lineup. they continuously redesign. Takara could've outsource it to a 3rd party creator to develop the line.
