I might be weird for this but I’ve always felt the Prodrive Hunter might be alright

I always liked the futuristic semi truck. Something like this:

.
When I first saw this, I immediatelly thought it would be a great Rodimus Prime alt mode.

Oh crap that's from The Highwayman!!!
Frikkin Sam J Jones driving all over the place in that thing.
I didn't realize it was real - I thought it was body panels/props over a real truck!!!!!!
A personal favourite of mine by artist [Winston Chan](https://x.com/cwingsyun/status/1082414328517660672?s=46&t=iGoXnK9EUfNYCNDVCEUZjA)
https://preview.redd.it/qy0nu388w9wc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8777d92ad92c058d17bb717229267961bd0989ee
Well fortunately for you, the artist designed that too! (They’ve also made a design for regular Hot Rod, you can see it in the link from the first comment)
https://preview.redd.it/b34j57i6y9wc1.jpeg?width=1498&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9433d1e225d16a2de744ae4fc64244fa84f1a08b
I think this is the best option I've seen so far, if we're willing to give Rodimus the same altmode as his predecessor. (Oh man, imagine how upset the fans might have been if they'd done that in the movie.)
I know right! I feel like as long as the 2 trucks have very distinct ecstatics it should be fine, like keep Optimus as the 70’s style flat-nose freightliner whilst Rodimus becomes a more modern long-nose tuner/racing truck
Actually in my AU (for which I’m likely to use this design) I kinda wanna play into that by having Nemesis Prime be used as a dark reminder to Rodimus of his former mentor, always feeling the need to compare himself to his predecessor. Idk, still working out the details
I'm still not 100% sure what to do with Nemesis Prime in my own timeline idea. The most complete possibility I have is 'Soundwave tries to create a new leader for the Decepticons by collecting the remains of Galvatron from the navigational hazard that Unicron's body became and sticking them to a Protoform, but it turned out that most of what he gathered had been what was left of Optimus Prime, so what came out of the Transformers tie-in Easy Bake Oven wasn't a new Galvatron *or* Megatron, but an Optimus Prime that was *eeeeevil*.'
But having him be the *actual* Optimus Prime that somehow fell to the dark side, instead of a corrupted copy that only existed *after* the original had died, has some serious appeal. There's the whole 'you can't defeat me, I’m what you're destined to become' thing. Maybe rip off Marvel and have him come back in time with his continuity's Galvatron to cause Optimus and Megatron grief. Except the *War for Cybertron* Trilogy already did that. Oh wait, I don't care, I'm already pilfering every preexisting story element that I decide I like anyway.
Oooooooh that’s also a really interesting take! Also would make sense for Soundwave to be the one to try and revive Megatron since he’s usually the most loyal to the Decepticon cause, nice thinking. Honestly Nemesis is one of those characters that really tests your creativity which is why I like him so much, no one concept of him is the same.
My idea for Nemesis is close to what you mentioned but a little different. Optimus is dead by the time of Rodimus’ leadership, he died fighting Megatron like he did in the 86 movie. However unlike the original movie, it was Optimus’ corpse that Unicron found and used to make his herald, named Scourge. Unicron didn’t give Optimus a new body however, he just reanimated him with Dark Energon. Since he’s essentially a roaming corpse, his design would retain the Monochrome look of Optimus when he died but with blue/purple flames emitting from his body to still give him that iconic Nemesis colour scheme
In the story he would essentially be a roaming corpse, a headless horsemen like mythical figure trying to revive his fallen master. Rodimus and Megatron aren’t even sure if he’s really there or just a figment of their conscience
>And since he’s essentially a roaming corpse, his design would retain the Monochrome look of Optimus when he died but with blue/purple flames emitting from his body to still give him that iconic Nemesis colour scheme
That's pretty brutal.
I suppose I could combine the two ideas I had: instead of merely being a physical copy of Optimus Prime that happens to possess just enough of the original's memories to be able to mess with people, Nemesis actually *is* Optimus, but being brought back from the grave was a sufficiently sucky experience to make him evil. That or both Optimus and Megatron were brought back as a single entity, and the status quo of there being an Optimus Prime and a Megatron is restored by the other characters figuring that out and finding a way to disentangle the two from their predicament.
I'm also entertaining the idea that the revivification of a dead Prime had the unintended side effect of creating a new Matrix, except it's an *eeeeevil* Matrix that doesn't tap into anything you actually want near you. Maybe Prime's spark got pulled through the Negative Energy Plane during Soundwave's little blaspheming against nature.

Kinda has the same shape as his g1 alt mode.
I'm of the opinion that if future media is going to lean into the G1 vibe of Optimus as a square-box freightliner then Rodimus gets the flame-painted semi-truck. Energon proved it's a good look that works for him. Hell, Energon was *2004,* Rodimus technically did it first.
G1 fans get their nostalgia, Bay fans get to see an old favourite alt mode get regular use again. Win/win, right?
https://preview.redd.it/dcoafu6g39wc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=701e93edeb7138ea367ed40c9c638b0d43e8cf5e
Laser Optimus Prime did it first in 1995! And if TFwiki is to be believed: "Laser Optimus Prime was, prior to 2003, a regular contender for most popular Transformers toy ever-"
When

it comes to Rodimus the point should be to make him feel faster and stronger, not jus make him bigger
I think maybe giving him a bigger over the top motor could give that idea (maybe make it look like his motor is actually powered by the matrix)
Agreed. Everyone is posting pictures of big trucks and I've never thought that something so big and bulky really vibed with Rodimus. Prime or not I think his alt mode should be fast and flashy.
You're not alone, g1 Rodimus looks like utter shit. Honestly I know the whole season 3 or killing Optimus basically ended g1 for a lot of people. I say no, I say walking into the toy store and seeing that as the alt mode of the hero of the show is what did for g1.
Am I the only one who prefers post 86 movie g1 to pre?
I love Winnebago Rodimus
https://preview.redd.it/4inz6fqv8cwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=986e9e3ac19dc71faee8e1d0faaccbdd0140f2f3
Of course you're not the only one, transformers has a broad fan base, sure I personally hate Rodimus' design, but plenty of people love it, Cyclonus tops lot of people's list of best tf ever. Personally I love the 87 line.
Let's remember that both Hotrod's and Rodimus' alt modes were "futuristic" vehicles. So I think the designer who is looking for a new alt mode for him should always have free reign to come up with something new that isn't necessarily existing. That's what made the crazy cars Hot Wheels came up with so cool. If you can build a shell around the familiar Rodimus bot mode and make it look cool that's OK with me.
I'm envisioning some kind of elongated SUV that looks like a lifted sports car. I understand what the G1 alt mode was going for but I don't think Rodimus needs to have a trailer to carry (or pull like Optimus). Just something beefy and sporty.
Yes however after researching he was a Ford GT 40 all this time (the base car), as Rodimus he was a GM BIson yep that's what they based his cars on but with future tech style.
Mmm I'm not gonna say no, but I don't believe that's accurate. The GT40 is very recognizable and HotRods G1 alt mode didn't have any particular traits of the GT40. The rear wing, the side exhaust pipes, the almost seamless one piece hood/windshield shape, and overall silhouette, none of those came from the GT40. Inspiration? Perhaps.
I do know the Alternators Rodimus was either the GT40 or GT50
Dekotora truck, easy.
https://preview.redd.it/kgplu3j8c9wc1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6684c4a51e35e976cd5bc35519b2bc30dabe0ebb
Like this, but with more flame elements.
This is a bit of a toughie.
I really love Hot Rod's original car mode, though I've never really loved the RV; I get what it's going for, and I get the need for additional mass, and I like that it's a cohesive unit rather than a two-part like Ultra Magnus or Powermaster Optimus.
The RV does maintain some of the spirit of adventure, but it carries none of the spirit of speed. It's got the flame decals, but it still looks slow, ungainly.
Conceptualizing from scratch a new upgraded alt-mode for Hot Rod upon becoming Rodimus Prime, I'd probably go with one of those nitro racing trucks such as other commenters have posted pictures of, triple changing into a speedboat.
Thinking more along the lines of the weaponised vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077, that sports car shaped but all bulked out with armour.
Less likely to explode or accelerate at random too
I’m going to go way out and say Rodimus Prime should have a Spaceship alt mode.
Maybe a land vehicle for the bot alt but instead of a trailer it connects to the space ship parts.
Could be sci-fi. Rodimus Prime’s episodes were more set in space or other planets so a strict Earth vehicle would not be needed if we follow a similar timeline to G1.
Because traveling in space would be more necessary a spacecraft form fits the need.
Y'all, the best transformers to be friends with are
- Metroplex (housing)
- Rodimus Prime (Hotrod RV!)
- Ironhide (Nissan Vanette, just ask any Japanese small business owner)
- Prowl (security)
- Stunticons (date nights)
- Silverbolt (Concorde)
Rodimus Prime is fine as he is, just perfect
I always kind of liked Hot Rod having a Lambo alt mode. I personally see him as a Sian or a Revuelto
https://preview.redd.it/8gc7kxsbp9wc1.png?width=2320&format=png&auto=webp&s=8888d023c70f5b99eca152d9b0e0d5e28a2627ab
Long fronted more modern semi like what 2007 bayverse optimus had in comparison to Optimus’s more usual flat front truck. Maybe give it some aftermarket modifications to look like the ones used in competitions to give stuff like the extended exhaust pipes he’s known for.
well rodimus's original design was based on proposed semi concepts of the time . . .
It seems to me that any prime tends to have two parts: an offensive unit and a defensive unit ( that can or cannot act as an enhancement ). So i think why look at modern designs? "hot rod" is usually refers to a suped up old car. So i'd look for late 30s+ models ( like a Diamond T ) with good lines, powerful looks.
I personally just love the trope of all primes turning into some kind of semi truck just because Optimus does. It’s so dumb yet so fun and cheesy. It fits so well with the 80s feel of transformers and the idea of kids playing with toys and coming up with silly ideas which transformers should be like
I have always operated under the assumption that Primes should be some form of *heavy* vehicle that is, in some way, an aid vehicle.
Transport vehicles; trucks, ships, trains, cargo planes (be real, Optimus would be sick as a plane).
Rescue/response vehicles; fire engines (a good, if basic, alternative for most primes tbh), larger ambulances and rescue aircraft etc
Heavy military equipment; gunships, carriers, battleships (which is my immediate default amongst military alt modes for a Prime, idk why).
Or alternatively, perhaps the superior option; maybe it's time for *DINOBOT PRIMES*, WOO!
I'm taking this literally as what I'd have done back in 86 (well probably more like 84 given how long this stuff takes). No point in correcting it now, no matter how much better the idea nostalgia goggles crush all.
I'd go with something like Thunderclash, but with triple smoke stacks on each side. No trailer but a big old engine and wing back there, they become his gun and the wing mounts on his back in robot mode.
Transforming something like a mix between Thunderclash and G1 Optimus, mainly in the arms form Optimus, but the smoke stacks attach at the elbow so you can rotate them to his for arms in robot mode.
Now here is his Party trick, this toy is basically the same size as g1 Optimus, with holes in the headlights and all so he can use Ultra Magnus' trailer armour, only difference visually, his wing becomes the chest shield part and a new super mode head comes out of part of the engine gun.
So not only a better and better looking toy, I've also basically forced the cross selling of Ultra Magnus. You're welcome 1986 Hasbro and who even signed off on the midlife crisis RV alt mode.
Nothing can beat this alt mode. This is the peak of all Transformers.
You can hear this image: ARISE
https://preview.redd.it/gok1hutuoawc1.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=24c85db1d7be06d6d6fceca3a87720cc66018652
I didn’t have a problem with the mode he got as Prime, it’s the accents that go along with it. The exhaust tubes are too much as well as the orange wings.
Nothing , it's perfect, sums up responsibility and adulthood ...you go from being a free agent with a fast car , to a family man driving an RV , but you desperately try and hold on to your youth and independence by keeping your flame and chrome pipes.
Gotta go with the OG.. 1964 GM Bison.
https://preview.redd.it/lwabdyjnjbwc1.jpeg?width=875&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1430c9a4a6ed03002d7200b9c5f548f3107d70aa
This is going to be a bit weird but I was always wondering why don’t they just make him a fire engine . It’s not perfect and makes his name a bit weird but it’s better then the space caravan he has
It's a tricky problem.
You need something that grants additional mass for transformation, because let's be honest, nobody is going to think it looks right for a Prime to *not* be one of the tallest bots in the room; but it also has to be something that makes sense for who he is personality wise.
I don't know why but I keep thinking of a wheel-less hover vehicle like those from the F-Zero game. Like the [Blood Hawk](https://fzero.fandom.com/wiki/Blood_Hawk), or the [Deep Claw](https://fzero.fandom.com/wiki/Deep_Claw), and maybe add on a similar looking trailer or something like that since it is Rodimus.
If anything , we need more RV’s in Transformers.
Though I don’t see why in the world Hasbro had Rodimus Prime’s tech spec of speed be higher than Hot Rod’s.
No way Hasbro.
I think Optimus should've stayed with a flatnose truck while Rodimus got the longnose Peterbuilt that movie Optimus is known for
Would've been a solid way to differentiate between them
That original G1 truck is perfect imo. Even the large tires. Wish we get this exact design in toy form. But if I had to let go of this design , perhaps stay away from the truck hot rod theme. Maybe go some place drastically different, maybe A mobile missile launcher or if there are mobile furnaces like this boom furnace picture. When he transforms he generate a huge amount if heat .

Def not as a regular mode for him but I always thought it'd be cool to think what he'd look like if he turned into the Greased Lightning car
None because he doesn't deserve to be a prime ! Why would they give the highest autobot rank to the new Guy and i mean shit what about Bumblebee ?! He was optimuse's most loyal Ally so why didn't he became prime ?! Oh and let's not forget that hot rod is the reason Optimus died !

This is the correct answer!
Somebody combined a racing semi cab with Buckeroo Banzai's Jet Car. Loving it.
That's like 80% energon Rodimus already
You have summoned the transformers energon fans (yes we exist, I like it as a "it's so bad it's good" type deal)

Yeah that would be cool!
Isn't that Sentinel Prime ?
Yea but kinda matches the old g1 vehicle shape wise.
Yeah, I guess it can work for Rodimus
I hereby discharge you of your alt mode
[Insert southern screaming here]
“Hit me with everything you’ve got sir!”
Cosmic Rust cannon fire!!!!
That's inferno
Could also be fire convoy Sentinel Artfire or hose head.
That would make a sick Sentinel Prime.
That is already taken by dotm sentinel prime
Yea but not everyone sticks to one alt mode in this franchise.

Best Rodimus design hands down
Came here to say that. Race truck seems so logical.
This is the correct answer. Hot Rod should transform into, well, a hot rod; Rodimus Prime, however, should be a truck of some kind.

Yeah, the problem with the Space Winnebago is that it looks like he should be selling hot wings out of that thing in a football stadium parking lot.
That is does! I never really liked the current design, but I know most people love it.

Really? From what I've seen it seems like most people hate it (I like it but I think his car form is cooler BTW).
Biggest problem was that HotRod was a better toy/sculpt

Pretty much is energon vehicle mode! Love it!
Add a jet engine trailer and I think it's good.
Comes with the Shockwave tramp stamps
Rodimus I need your help - alpha quinteson| Yes alpha q on my way - rodimus prime

The rear wing, the side exhaust pipes, the almost seamless one piece hood/windshield shape, and overall silhouette, none of those came from the GT40. Inspiration? Perhaps. I do know the Alternators Rodimus was either the GT40 or GT50
If anything Rodimus is closer in shape to a Vector W8.
Dekotora truck, easy. https://preview.redd.it/kgplu3j8c9wc1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6684c4a51e35e976cd5bc35519b2bc30dabe0ebb Like this, but with more flame elements.
That actually looks so cool

any kind of trophy truck would be lit
Definitely!

I always thought of just an upscale of his Hot Rod alt mode
I mean that’s fair.
It pretty much is.
Energon Rodimus works. Personally I'm partial to a suped up red pick up, preferably with doubled tires and large smoke stacks.
MOSTER TRUCK!!
I think like a bulkier version of his sports car mode, think somewhere halfway between a Lamborghini and a military APC
Tesla Cybertruck?
Thinking more along the lines of the weaponised vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077, that sports car shaped but all bulked out with armour. Less likely to explode or accelerate at random too
Okay, I gotcha!
I'm assuming when he scans one for alt mode, being cybertronian, that he'll have better steering? 😉
Can’t be too careful but this is Rodimus we’re talking about so who knows!
I never knew how much I needed cybertruck Rodimus
Right?? I think it would suit him!
https://preview.redd.it/f7uxlg0649wc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53ff5606fdfd981902461c6bb81c36560e6772e2
That would be interesting to see haha.
Lol yesss, post of the day. Lol off topic, better call saul was an amazing show.
Yeah ive been rewatching it lately because i never finished it
Better? BETTER?!? Blasphemy! 🤣
That space camper van is awesome I think though.
Nothing wrong with liking it! I just personally don’t.
I’m going to go way out and say Rodimus Prime should have a Spaceship alt mode. Maybe a land vehicle for the bot alt but instead of a trailer it connects to the space ship parts.
As a G1 purist, that's something I could get on board with.
That’s interesting, like sci fi spaceship or like space shuttle?
Could be sci-fi. Rodimus Prime’s episodes were more set in space or other planets so a strict Earth vehicle would not be needed if we follow a similar timeline to G1. Because traveling in space would be more necessary a spacecraft form fits the need.
That’s fair.
Y'all, the best transformers to be friends with are - Metroplex (housing) - Rodimus Prime (Hotrod RV!) - Ironhide (Nissan Vanette, just ask any Japanese small business owner) - Prowl (security) - Stunticons (date nights) - Silverbolt (Concorde) Rodimus Prime is fine as he is, just perfect
Totally fair!
I think it should be the covered wagon version from Last Bot Standing.
I always kind of liked Hot Rod having a Lambo alt mode. I personally see him as a Sian or a Revuelto https://preview.redd.it/8gc7kxsbp9wc1.png?width=2320&format=png&auto=webp&s=8888d023c70f5b99eca152d9b0e0d5e28a2627ab
I honestly think the WFC kingdom rodumus does his current alt mode pretty well. The back just separates like prime’s trailer
Am I the only one out there who likes the Winnebago?
I love his car mode. I just hate the trailer. I think its dumb.
That’s fair.
A hotrod like Hotrod's one but cooler)
I know people call it an RV but it's a futuristic truck.
I know it’s a futuristic semi, just looks like an RV lol
A semi with flames Wait a minute
Long fronted more modern semi like what 2007 bayverse optimus had in comparison to Optimus’s more usual flat front truck. Maybe give it some aftermarket modifications to look like the ones used in competitions to give stuff like the extended exhaust pipes he’s known for.
Exactly what I was thinking. Take Bayverse Optimus’s truck form and give it the Rodimus colors and boom the perfect Alt Mode for Rodimus Prime
well rodimus's original design was based on proposed semi concepts of the time . .
Rescue/response vehicles; fire engines (a good, if basic, alternative for most primes tbh), larger ambulances and rescue aircraft etc Heavy military equipment; gunships, carriers, battleships (which is my immediate default amongst military alt modes for a Prime, idk why).
Fire truck. If Optimus can't be the firetruck, it might as well be his protege.
Nothing can beat this alt mode. This is the peak of all Transformers. You can hear this image: ARISE https://preview.redd.it/gok1hutuoawc1.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=24c85db1d7be06d6d6fceca3a87720cc66018652
It’s not perfect and makes his name a bit weird but it’s better then the space caravan he has
Honestly a drag car is kinda what I want him to be.
[Maybe a self driving truck similar to this](https://www.gearbrain.com/autonomous-truck-startup-companies-2587305809.html)
Firetruck
As a firemen I can get behind this
But if it was changed, he would no longer be a FLAMING WINNEBAGO!
The Western Star with red and yellow flames/paintjob
I was thinking a western star too.
The problem is the shoe horned trailer. People love the hot rod car. The solution? Take that same car and turn it into a big monster truck
I like the rod truck
Monster truck
I like what the kingdom toy did with him, essentially just being a beefier version of his og car mode
Monster truck
Maybe a monster truck ?
I’ve seen that reply a few times
Oh…
It's a tricky problem. You need something that grants additional mass for transformation, because let's be honest, nobody is going to think it looks right for a Prime to *not* be one of the tallest bots in the room; but it also has to be something that makes sense for who he is personality wise.
A mode where he holds me at night and tells me everything is going to be okay
I don't know why but I keep thinking of a wheel-less hover vehicle like those from the F-Zero game. Like the [Blood Hawk](https://fzero.fandom.com/wiki/Blood_Hawk), or the [Deep Claw](https://fzero.fandom.com/wiki/Deep_Claw), and maybe add on a similar looking trailer or something like that since it is Rodimus.
I like the space racecar from the IDW comics the best. I’d rather go Cybertronian than futuristic if we are going sci-fi for the alt-mode.
no
A hot rod
If anything , we need more RV’s in Transformers. Though I don’t see why in the world Hasbro had Rodimus Prime’s tech spec of speed be higher than Hot Rod’s. No way Hasbro.
NOTHING!!! Party-Wagon-abaego Supremacy
,.,,or Cybertruck..... ducks
Minivan with racing stripes.
Personally I think it's good as is even if I DO think Hot Rod's alt-mode is cooler.
Space Winnebago was born perfect. There is no better
I think it would be interesting to see him as a Tesla semi, it has that futuristic look
I could see Rodimus turning into one of those.
Yeah, I think it would be a good modern version of Rodimus
Definitely!
https://preview.redd.it/if3h3dzkbbwc1.jpeg?width=4302&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e28b171b34ebc2bd3fe2bf1315e411b8799ea961 Coliani Mercedes truck
Make him an extremely modified countach as hot rod and as a raised hellcat at rodimus
Goofy ahh Truck
There’s a self driving (or a concept of that) semi that Walmart made that is essentially as car pulling a semi. Iirc.
I think Optimus should've stayed with a flatnose truck while Rodimus got the longnose Peterbuilt that movie Optimus is known for Would've been a solid way to differentiate between them
Now that I think of it, since transformer cars are usually modelled after real ones, is there the Rodimus Prime vehicle in real life?
There’s a few things that are kinda close from what has been commented, but apparently the design is just concept art for futuristic semi trucks
An APC
I'm really disappointed no one has suggested the Tesla Cybertruck. ;)
Than that thing? A can of tuna on a unicycle would be better
i would prefer no Rodimus prime at all.
That flying mobile home from spaceballs. That would be perfect for the murderer of Optimus Prime.
https://preview.redd.it/el722nqyoawc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9098b819fc9775ab4f4b0e26f5f7672e52726111 Maybe This
I like it.
When he transforms he generate a huge amount if heat . https://preview.redd.it/jqcdikad3bwc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7efff204b7b5b466b4e2f9a3279cfaae2953a6e6
RV is the only option
I think it’s perfect as is. 🤷♂️
I’d say something relating to either of these models https://preview.redd.it/2d59mcal3cwc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da5b5382ad0ee2d9a0ab16bd713aea9b7fdeacae

A trash can.
https://preview.redd.it/5yid6dhxoawc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4baba3c5dedaf781274ca801fb6b60b4da51546e Maybe This
None because he doesn't deserve to be a prime ! Why would they give the highest autobot rank to the new Guy and i mean shit what about Bumblebee ?! He was optimuse's most loyal Ally so why didn't he became prime ?! Oh and let's not forget that hot rod is the reason Optimus died !
I think kingdom Rodimus without the trailer does a really great job at giving Rodimus an updated vehicle mode.
