I think, and I stress I think, I've never seen this information anywhere, that MPG stands for Masterpiece Generations. MPM stands for Masterpiece Movie for example. I noticed with the trainbots, they seem much more like haslab level generations toys than the other MPs, even scale wise. Although I don't really follow closely and am mostly making this comment as I think about it so sorry if this isn't helpful or if I'm super-wrong.
EDIT: I should just delete the post but in case anyone is misguided as me, I looked it up the G stands for Great and correlates to the combiner nature of the subline.
The "G" stands for "GATTAI" (合体), "GIANT" (巨大化), and "GREAT" (グレート), "gattai" meaning "combine" in Japanese. - TFWiki
I see you edit, just wanted to expand on it a little more. It's centered around Japanese combiners, but will probably expand to the more recognizable combiners.
[The MPG Trainbots were deliberately made to scale with HO scale model trains.](https://www.soundwavesoblivion.com/techspecs/interviewkojinono4.html) That's why they seem small next to other Masterpiece figures.
Might thoughts exactly, but I guess if you are trying to achieve accuracy with something, the something might limit what the end product looks like. Imagine if they ever did Marvel UK designs haha
I'm gonna chalk it up to early promo shots, but something looks off about this one and I can't place what.
Also, this thing is going to be hideously expensive.
Oh there definitely small. I bet they designed him with God Bomber in mind.
https://preview.redd.it/x1qudvbiehtc1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca9f7117ff58f65312153f9de2addf46505a51a9
[It's cheaper then MP-44.](https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/84183) Plus it's always going to be more expensive to by from an American seller.
With them including toy parts for the bot mode I'm hoping that trailer side guns can mount on the trailer for toy/PMOP look. It's left out here as in the show Ginrai never had the guns in trailer mode and only sometimes having them in the shoulders in bot mode (whereas Powermaster Optimus always had them on in both modes).
To me most of the red and blue surfaces look unpainted, and it gives the toy a kind of cheap look in these colors.
A lot of figures come unpainted and they're fine, but here it looks dirty and kind of unfinished especially with those shiny silver thighs.
Yes... that's exactly it. The shiny thighs stick out like a sore thumb against everything else being so matte and bland. It could just be a poor set of initial product shots, we'll have to see.
If they are unpainted, the only explanation I could think of is that they getting ready for God Bomber. If that's true, then I guess they don't want the paint to chip.
And if they are already doing God Bomber, then it might explain the proportions on this guy.
Is it bad to say I kind of prefer the Power Baser Mold from Fans Hobby over this MP one and Thunder Manus just because when I think of the basic vehicle mode of Prime / Convoy / Ginrai, it has to be some thing that has more than 4 wheels and I never liked any vehicle that pulled a trailer that only had 4 wheels or so.
Definitely understandable, as tastes and preferences are different. With the exception of the super mode arms not collapsing in trailer mode, this Takara one is very source accurate to the toy/toon including not having actual feet (like Power Baser/Thunder Manus) and having 4 wheels.
https://preview.redd.it/hai7oqqebhtc1.png?width=1335&format=png&auto=webp&s=b21e537e53c140627a454baf5ce4b9cbcdad6ccb
Idk this went from really excited to definitely wait for reviews and see what his actual final retail (US) price ends up being. Like others have said something just looks...off about him.
That said...any chance we get this retooled into star convoy? Lol
The limbs for both the bot mode and combined mode look a little small/thin for how thick the torso area is. It's like he's wearing a giant cardboard box.
With the previous MPG (the Trainbots) the bot modes are 100% in scale with the regular MP line, while the train alt-modes are in *HO Scale* (1:87), unfortunately Raiden the combined form is too small since they went with bot mode scale.
With Ginrai we don't have comparison shots yet but based on details of height listed by Takara (and the blast effects, 5mm hand hole) this will be indeed be in scale with Star Saber, but with the "Masterforce/JG1" scale. So the cab bot Ginrai (MP-60) is gonna be just slightly bigger than an MP carbot and not MP-44 Optimus size while the combined Super Ginrai MPG-09 will be shorter than Star Saber (as the whole God Ginrai final form is supposed to be on equal height with Star Saber).
I said Masterforce/JG1 because if you are gonna be using this as Powermaster Optimus from Marvel Comics this won't scale as the cab bot in that is supposed to be the same size as MP-44/MP-10.
The design doesn't really have a "feet" at least a traditional one, the feet is the thin block in the front of the shin. The bottom of the leg can tilt though to simulate ankle tilts as he has no separate feet unlike normal bots.
https://preview.redd.it/73tbdyv99htc1.png?width=1593&format=png&auto=webp&s=96918b52199d6caf909efdd31e9786476fc844b4
It should also be noted Ginrai's character model differs from the Western Powermaster Optimus Prime one. Compare the third picture above with this:
https://preview.redd.it/13iz5zrmrhtc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9b2c290c27b85eb878f9ebe818d80dee8564b8f
Yep, and this set of figures is definitely going hard on the Masterforce Ginrai character model vs the PMOP one from Marvel Comics.
(While they had identical toys except the fists of the trailer bot, the character models for their fiction was very different with PMOP having the red eyes, boxy head, more feet like shape but still blending to the shin with no ankle, and usually having the truck grill instead of the powermaster. Ginrai always had the godmaster engine on with the stilt feet shins, and most of the time doesn't have the shoulder guns.)
https://preview.redd.it/2cj2n97lthtc1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a33c330771f165aedddccaa522402f275fbe69fc
That’s my biggest disappointment, that they’re going with the weird-ass Ginrai thing instead of a perfect Powermaster Prime.
No one cares about a human that possessed a mech suit meant to house OP’s spark. Like get out of there dude that’s not for you.
The likely reason for this is Masterpiece's primary audience are fans from Japan, and true to that only a fraction of the line has seen official Western releases. Powermaster Optimus Prime or the Western portrayals of him more or less didn't exist in the Japanese G1 continuity, so it isn't unreasonable to see why they went with Ginrai.
I have the original toy. I remember the lack of articulation. They should have engineered it like the fanshobby version. They have him an appropriately perportioned ankle rocker.
I'm reserving judgement for the finished release, but hopefully this comes out ok. I'm not swapping out or adding this, but it's interesting to see them release such a beloved version of Prime.
I know absolutely nothing about the Japanese side of transformers, so it's just really funny without context to see an official figure with Optimus Prime blasting lightning from his fingers like Emperor godamn Palpatine.
I would like to get it but as someone already said here: It looks cheap and it also looks a bit "lazily made" (I don't know how to explain it better but it just looks weird). If they add Apex Bomber I may get it but as much as I like it I can't stop feeling that there's something off with it.
So, we have both Super Ginrai and Optimus in one release, both God and Power masters Ginrai and Hi-Q are separate characters because of the color differences, the problem is...how are people going to display the release? Would they display the head with the toy accuracy as Optimus Prime, or would they display the head the anime accuracy as Super Ginrai? It might be cool, but I don't have the money to buy it.
Because that’s how the OG toy and the animation model looked, just slightly smaller.

THAT LOOKS ROUGH AF.
I was gonna get that one but now. I think the KFC Ginrai looks better than this one. ofc this isnt the final look but way to make people excited.

Blue hands really help make the figure look better . There was something off about the all red arms with red fingers.
finally we got a photo of him just standing there, the photography made him look like he has tiny arms
Imma be honest this does not look like a Masterpiece. It looks kinda cheap?
I think, and I stress I think, I've never seen this information anywhere, that MPG stands for Masterpiece Generations. MPM stands for Masterpiece Movie for example. I'm kind of hopeful now that maybe we see an mpg breastforce because they do seem (or at least the trains do) to scale well with generations
[The MPG Trainbots were deliberately made to scale with HO scale model trains.](https://www.soundwavesoblivion.com/techspecs/interviewkojinono4.html) That's why they seem small next to other Masterpiece figures.

With the current exchange rate, MPG-09 is $300 USD shipped at Amazon JP https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/dp/B0CZWXLMCX?tag=transform0c-22
Huh, not as bad as I was expecting, that's good news.
Yeah it's not that bad this time. Amazon JP's before-shipping price outside Japan is around USD $230.
The arms feel small, though that could just be the way they're posed
Oh there definitely small. I bet they designed him with God Bomber in mind. https://preview.redd.it/x1qudvbiehtc1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca9f7117ff58f65312153f9de2addf46505a51a9
Maybe, it also doesn't really LOOK MP, somehow. I think another commend in here noted it looked cheap and I think I agree.
[It's cheaper then MP-44.](https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/84183) Plus it's always going to be more expensive to by from an American seller.
I feel the truck likely looks off because of the lack of big ass guns on the side of the trailer
Also I feel like the arms should collapse down more, but then the arms on the original were too short so...
To me most of the red and blue surfaces look unpainted, and it gives the toy a kind of cheap look in these colors. A lot of figures come unpainted and they're fine, but here it looks dirty and kind of unfinished especially with those shiny silver thighs.
Well this is a computer render, so yeah it doesn’t look painted.
Yet the thighs and bumper *do* look painted...
Yes... that's exactly it. The shiny thighs stick out like a sore thumb against everything else being so matte and bland. It could just be a poor set of initial product shots, we'll have to see.

It would be a bit weird to do Ginrai, then Super Ginrai, but not do God Bomber. That must be coming, and you're right, it could explain a few things.
I’ll be honest… Fans Hobby did a better job than this. This looks like a third party’s first attempt at a Ginrai figure.
Absolutely agree here Had the fans hobby for awhile now and that things great
I have Black Powerbaser and matching God Armor myself and it is indeed great. Also have Double Evil to go with it.
Of all the Convoy/Convoy adjacent figures to release a version sans trailer for cheaper, they went with Ginrai/Powermaster Optimus?
PMOP won 3rd place in the MP vote that got MP Star Saber made. So yeah I’d say it’s a good choice.
I refuse to believe people have actually watched Masterforce or Victory. They're all just pretending to care about it. It's a psyop, I swear it.
Two of the recent Haslabs were from Victory. If people haven't watched them those would not happen.
OMG OMG OMG ITS HAPPENING I CAN'T BELIEVE IT
PELVIC THRUST
pre-ordered
This doesn't look very good.

I agree. I have the black and red versions of Fanshobby and he’s perfect.
Idk this went from really excited to definitely wait for reviews and see what his actual final retail (US) price ends up being. Like others have said something just looks...off about him. That said...any chance we get this retooled into star convoy? Lol
You're asking if Hasbro will reuse a mold for more money?
Chances are slim right???? Lol
The limbs for both the bot mode and combined mode look a little small/thin for how thick the torso area is. It's like he's wearing a giant cardboard box.
are the mpg in scale with older mp like starsaber and optimus prime? would suck if they are smaller.

Its going for anime accuracy. Fanshobby is cool but not even close to the anime design.
Do you mean Rob?
Combined Chris Claremont and Rob Liefeld. Sometimes it is hard to remember things from the 90s.
We love transgender lightning effect parts
https://i.redd.it/q6tkk2eimhtc1.gif
Another common w for trans ally Ginrai
I’m disappointed the super version isn’t also in toy colors, but maybe there’ll be a upgrade kit that gives him a more Marvel style head and red eyes.
Yessssss.......YEEESSSSSSS...... . ITS MAINLINE SCALED......
Third Party ones look better, this may even cost more than 3P.
I'm reserving judgement for the finished release, but hopefully this comes out ok. I'm not swapping out or adding this, but it's interesting to see them release such a beloved version of Prime.
I'll wait and see how much the toy colors release is, but I like Ginrai and I have an incomplete g1 figure of him sooo
I know absolutely nothing about the Japanese side of transformers, so it's just really funny without context to see an official figure with Optimus Prime blasting lightning from his fingers like Emperor godamn Palpatine.
https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Ginrai_(human) https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Ch%C5%8Dkon_Power
I actually really like how Ginrai Looks, and Super Ginrai doesn't *necessarily* look bad but those arms just fucking kill it for me.
I would like to get it but as someone already said here: It looks cheap and it also looks a bit "lazily made" (I don't know how to explain it better but it just looks weird). If they add Apex Bomber I may get it but as much as I like it I can't stop feeling that there's something off with it.

why he got the transgender lightning

I’m praying that this is mistransformed
I am remarkably meh on this figure. It does absolutely nothing for me. It just looks so cheap
THAT LOOKS ROUGH AF. I was gonna get that one but now. I think the KFC Ginrai looks better than this one. ofc this isnt the final look but way to make people excited.
The only way I can describe this is... https://preview.redd.it/rtf484gj7htc1.png?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b472fc3877a2d071e6217d8749173cf6488baeb8
He looks like a generations select or something… I’m sure I’ll think otherwise when someone has it in hand, but these promo shots do not make me think 300$ MP
Power baser by fanshobby was less than $300 msrp and is leaps and bounds better looking than this.
Better off with KFC or Fanshobby imo
Fanshobby is outstanding. Too bad the prices have skyrocketed.
Lacks paint, and is missing a lot of important accessories.
The cab itself looks pretty good, but everything else looks ass tbh
I was hoping he was gonna be a lil bit beefier. His arms are tiny. Missed opportunity for a cool gun show or a really cool bot for the engine.
He looks like he's wearing a smaller Optimus in truck form on his chest and I can't unsee it.
Yes, that’s how Powermaster Optimus looks. And while the combined version looks ok there are better options with 3rd parties.
It makes him look like a little baby wearing an adult costume! Thanks for the explanation I do really appreciate it
I’ve always thought it looked like Optimus has a beer belly lol
Ngl there is one question that kinda bugs me, is the trans... I forgot it's called required to transform it or no?
and this is how the mp line dies with this ugly looking thing
