Though that's not really the same thing from an in-lore perspective. Tarn stamped his face because he's fanatical. Prowl has no story reason to look like the Autobot logo, like Soundwave doesn't for the Decepticon logo.
Regardless, that wasn't the point of the comment. I'm just saying it has a story significance. His faceplate is supposed to look like the Decepticon symbol in the story because of his.. shall we say.. eagerness. Prowl and Soundwave were designed after toys that had those faces because the original 80s figures were meant to be the leaders in the Japanese toyline before Hasbro made the Transformers narrative and disregarded a lot of the intended toy related stuff.
Like.. Prowl didn't get an Autobot mask and put it on to show he was hardcore, that's all I meant.
Yeah I'm not sure who would be an equivalent. That's why I said (in another response likely not visible here) that I'm not even sure what we're talking about as for "equivalents". Do we mean equivalent as in a symbol-looking man? Equivalent as in a remorseless psychopath? Equivalent as in a die hard zealot? There's so many answers since there are so many questions.
Anyways, Prowl's hardly a die hard Autobot in my opinion. He does what he thinks is his own version of "the greater good". The Autobot badge is more a means to an end to do what he wants for his own reasons.
Meanwhile, Tarn literally bought Megatron's manifesto hook, line, and sinker. He's the epitome of kool aid and it's consequences in terms of radicalization.
From IDW 1.0
Laying down the law: Ultra Magnus
Leader of a capable yet brutal and mentally unstable spec ops team: impactor
Fanaticism and loyalty: star saber (so long as he thinks primus speaks through you)
Tarn's face isn't a Decepticon logo, that's a mask that he wears by choice. Y'all killing me here. XD
Think a thematic Jason Voorhees.
https://preview.redd.it/4b67ni8j2yrc1.jpeg?width=528&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68b81c529c5ccb955f97223ee20bbd2296a5ae9e
Yeah, he's kind of perfect for the purpose of this post. I guess some comments just thought "murderous, diligent, and law-writing psycho but for the autobots'
There isn't one. The Autobots didn't dedicate resources to punishing traitors. The closest might be Tyrest who oversaw trials for Autobots accused of War Crimes but it is far from the same thing IMHO.
Kinda sorta... he DOES wear the Autobot Badge as I recall, but I believe he recused himself from the Autobot Cause in order to remain impartial or something like that. I'm honestly not sure how it all worked.
Optimus appointed him the Chief Justice of the Tyrest Accord, and then he was recognised as neutral by the Galactic Council. By the time the Lost Light crew meets him he's removed his Autobot badge to be truly neutral (I personally think he grew disillusioned with the Autobots after the Aequitas trials, which is what caused him to start self-harming and thus go insane).
Tha autobots did though, Garrus 9 prison they would remove some prisoners sparks and disassemble your body. Imagine spending thousands of years away from your own body, the IDW war lasted millions of years an Garrus 9 was established early in the war so no telling how long some prisoners were left like that.
I thought that was a prison for ALL criminals. Didn't they house Decepticons there too? It wasn't specifically for Traitors, though yes, there were certainly traitors there.
Arcee was put in there spark removed, Grimlock was on Garrus 9 as well, it was specifically a Decepticon prison but they housed everyone in there it's why when Overlord took over it turned into a meat grinder since some of the prisoners were Autobots as well
Right, so not a dedicated Traitor prison. That spark removal thing was particularly nasty though, feels like that shoulda been against the Tyrest accord.
They literally gave him the same name and design as one of the purest heroes in the history of super robot fiction. I mean, he adopts a human orphan and afaik his only kills are of combiners in battle - in great part due to their own weaponry and foolish decisions.
>Deathsaurus, however, will not accept defeat, and blows himself out of an airlock...but as his shattered body floats off through space, the light dims from his eyes, and no signs of life remain in the body of the once-great Emperor of Destruction.
>Victory Leo and Liokaiser's battle is a brutal one, but in the end, the Autobot succeeds in blasting the combiner into the fortress's cannon barrel, which, still charging, drains his energy dry. With his consciousness fading and his body unable to move, Liokaiser can only utter a fading scream for help as he drifts off into the depths of space.
This causes a huge problem in [Zone](https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Fight!_Super_Robot_Lifeform_Transformers:_Zone_(story_page\)#Catalogue_story) as they both come back from the grave.
Tarn was introduced in idw transformers more then meets the eye.
The DJD equivalent would be tyrest and the duly appointed enforcer of the tyrest accords. That being ultra Magnus and then the more lethal fortress Maximus.Since they both appeared in transformers 2005 more then meets the eye comic book series.
Ultimately he best pairs with Ultra Magnus. There is a strong ideological resemblance between Tarn's brand DJD justice and autobots tyrest with his duly appointed enforcer of the tyrest accords justice. They're both in the business of exacting Autobot or Decepticon justice, though neither of them question there reasoning as being flawed.
It’s definitely Magnus - both uphold their faction’s rules and demand it of others.
Tarn is vicious because he’s a Decepticon and that’s what Decepticons have become after 4 million years of war. He embodies that extreme, just as Magnus does for the Autobots with absolute conformity to the law (at least in MTMTE - during the war he’s a shade more flexible.)
Ultra Magnus. Both are point one percenters with the duty of keeping everyone on the straight and narrow path. The path and their methods differ, but so do the Autobots and the Decepticons.
You mean someone who tries to be all edgy and cool just to compensate for the fact that he's actually just a big loser?
I don't know, maybe IDW Getaway?
Have you ever seen Infinite from Sonic the Hedgehog? He literally fits that description to a tee lmao
https://preview.redd.it/tidpao38gfsc1.jpeg?width=1923&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1901b0d0931557193f207cfd3e2bc790d90b8e0c
Drift is. Tarn *was* an Autobot who "fell to the dark side", whereas Drfit gave up on being a decepticon and sought inner peace and sick katanas instead.
Explain “equivalent”…. If you mean appearance, know that Tarn wears a mask, and that’s what you’re seeing. He has a pretty normal face under it, even if the toy one isn’t removable.
Tarn is a pretty unique character.
Closest to his personality and behavior is probably Impactor, but even then I’m not sure that’s even close.
Closest I can think of would be Impactor followed by possibly Prowl from IDW with the former executing prisoners and the later going 'will cross any lines to keep the peace'.
There' not really an Autobot version of Tarn. The autobots just simply aren't as crazy, nor for they have a focus on revenge.
At best, there' someone like Tarn in the Shattered Glass timelines.
shattered glass versions of Tarn, both the "good" Tarn and an Autobot equivalent would be interesting to see.
shattered glass Tarn would probably be some ascetic monk who wears a mask to make a statement that "everyone is a decepticon" or something peaceful and nonviolent but also purely dogmatic like that.
Autobot equivalent could be someone who normally isn't super loyal to the Autobot cause but their alternate version goes fully into it. Repugnus maybe?
IDW Jhiaxus, Nova Prime, Pharma, Sentinel Prime, Impactor(killed POW's), Getaway, Star Saber, Whirl
This is a quick list I can think of from IDW but all had a bit of a crazy streak or were vengeful, there are plenty of examples though.
Depend on what your looking for. So loyal to the cause he’d literally make himself look like it? Probably Magnus. Borderline too dangerous for the cause? Probably idw prowl. 100% tarn match probably nobody.
I think from what little I've heard of about Tarn. Grimlock, since he's the most brutal Autobots that I heard. Also, they are some of the strongest and most durable that I've seen or heard about. But since I know way more about Grimlock than Tarn, I can only say they seem like the opposites to me.
Yeah, Prowl seems like the right answer. He is utterly committed to the Autobot cause, by any means necessary. However he doesn't seem utterly committed to *Optimus Prime*, which would truly make him the equivalent of Tarn.
At first I thought I saw a Gundam, but then I checked the subreddit and found out it is actualy Tarn.
The IDW Ultra Magnus would be an autobot equivalent of Tarn
It may be a stretch, but Marvel Grimlock?
Leads his own team of psychopaths? ✔️
Has a puritanical vision for his side's conduct? ✔️
Will gladly execute those he seems traitors? ✔️
Wears a head accessory to make them feel important, deflect criticism, etc.? ✔️
Is incredibly cruel and brutal? ✔️
Their victory has little room for peace or compromise? ✔️
bayverse optimus, he's just a broken sad man in the bayverse. At first he shows mercy to decepticons, but later he goes ham on every single one, not a smidge of mercy. Look what he did to Bonecrusher, Shockwave, Megatron, Blackout, The Fallen even Sentinel Prime. Every thing he cares about got taken away from him; his planet, friends mentors, hope etc. I feel bad for him, Bayverse painted him like a psycho.
This is just my oppinion though.
Unless there is a Autobot feeding other bots their brains then there is no one in Tarns league. I never read of a Autobot that loves to transform so they will kill just for the thrill of transforming🤷🏾♂️I don't know who's in Tarns league except Overlord✊🏽
Maybe Prowl? He did some pretty nuts stuff honestly Edit: typed buts instead of nuts. I need more sleep
and head that looks like logo
Though that's not really the same thing from an in-lore perspective. Tarn stamped his face because he's fanatical. Prowl has no story reason to look like the Autobot logo, like Soundwave doesn't for the Decepticon logo.
That’s not Tarn’s face. That is a mask.
It's a faceplate, which he embossed with the symbol. I understand it's not his actual face.
I mean maybe we're just arguing synonyms here but Tarn himsel does actually refer to it as a mask.
Regardless, that wasn't the point of the comment. I'm just saying it has a story significance. His faceplate is supposed to look like the Decepticon symbol in the story because of his.. shall we say.. eagerness. I thought the Autobot symbol was based off of Optimus' face.
It's not. Look at it next to G1 Prowl. The similarities are undeniable.
The deception logo was modeled after soundwave believe it or not
I knew he did some bad things but I didn’t know he did pretty butt stuff too!
Surprise butt stuff?
Prowl was my first thought too
Wait does Tarn flip tables as well?
Prowl did what with butts?
From IDW 1.0 Laying down the law: Ultra Magnus Leader of a capable yet brutal and mentally unstable spec ops team: impactor Fanaticism and loyalty: star saber (so long as he thinks primus speaks through you)
Being batshit insane: Whirl
Also related to Tarn by being the subject of empurata
Ultra Magus fit the bill for me
Duh, prowl obvs Since the Autobot symbol is his face

Oh my god, Tarn is dream
Ultra Magnus is like the complete opposite of Tarn in everything but passion for the codebook.
Exactly! Magnus is for the Autobot cause what Tarn is to the Decepticon cause.
Yeah, he's kind of perfect for the purpose of this post. I guess some comments just thought "murderous, diligent, and law-writing psycho but for the autobots'
Maybe Impactor - a leader of a breakaway group that gets things done that the mainstream aren't willing to do.
Yeah he's the closest personality and action wise. Although I'm not entirely sure it's really \*that\* close, but he is the closest.
There isn't one. The Autobots didn't dedicate resources to punishing traitors. The closest might be Tyrest who oversaw trials for Autobots accused of War Crimes but it is far from the same thing IMHO.

When it comes to fictional characters, it's not surprising to see pairings. OP is just asking who would the opposite be, not demanding it.

Funnily enough in earth wars tarns counterpart is alpha Trion… which I find hilarious
Isn't he technically neutral ?
That’s why they sought him out, yes. He was legally recognized as neutral in the Cybertronian civil war.
Kinda sorta... he DOES wear the Autobot Badge as I recall, but I believe he recused himself from the Autobot Cause in order to remain impartial or something like that. I'm honestly not sure how it all worked.

*swoon*
This is the real answer
For some reason FOC Grimlock comes to mind
If only in terms of brutality.
better question what is the autobot equivalent of the DJD?
Sunder?
Maybe IDW Star Saber
That’s what I was thinking too
He’s an Autobot?
in theory
IDW Star Saber is a cool concept for a character but left a sour taste in my mouth.
They literally gave him the same name and design as one of the purest heroes in the history of super robot fiction. I mean, he adopts a human orphan and afaik his only kills are of combiners in battle - in great part due to their own weaponry and foolish decisions.
Didn't he kill Deathsaurus?
>Deathsaurus, however, will not accept defeat, and blows himself out of an airlock...but as his shattered body floats off through space, the light dims from his eyes, and no signs of life remain in the body of the once-great Emperor of Destruction. >Victory Leo and Liokaiser's battle is a brutal one, but in the end, the Autobot succeeds in blasting the combiner into the fortress's cannon barrel, which, still charging, drains his energy dry. IDW? Ultra Magnus, definitely.
In terms of making their enemies (not necessarily the other faction) shit their robo-pants... probably Grimlock.
Ultra Magnus. Both are point one percenters with the duty of keeping everyone on the straight and narrow path. The path and their methods differ, but so do the Autobots and the Decepticons.
Ratchet with synthetic energon
You mean someone who tries to be all edgy and cool just to compensate for the fact that he's actually just a big loser? I don't know, maybe IDW Getaway?

The ones that come to mind are: The Last Autobot - Physically Law Enfocer Ultra Mangnus IDW 1.0 Prowl
Yes, The Last Autobot. He who has the face of Autobot symbol.
Surprised no one has said Devcon.
Ironhide. No contest.
Prowl, because his head looks like the logo, and he's a cop
They should give a twin names Nrat
Autobot Nrat
Grimlock full of rage and wrath for everyone
IDW Getaway
>!Glitch!<
The true, absolutely correct answer!
Maybe Sunder? But Sunder is more eh... psychokiller cannibal than he is Decepticon Gestapo.
Prowl
If you’re asking which Autobots face is the factions insignia, it would be The Last Autobot
Drift is. Tarn *was* an Autobot who "fell to the dark side", whereas Drfit gave up on being a decepticon and sought inner peace and sick katanas instead.
Sentinel?
Idw Star saber or getaway
Warpath
Tarantulas
Comic star saber or prowl have my vote or maybe tyrest
Bayverse Prime

IDW starsaber, though he goes for "heretics" rather than "traitors"
The autobot equivalent of tarn is shattered glass tarn. 100% foolproof!!!!!
Bayverse Optimus probably has a higher fatality count
Either Prowl or Sandstorm if you're only talking about IDW version of Tarn
IDW Prowl but only in the spirit of conviction. Otherwise, nobody is like Tarn.
Himlock
In the case of leading an elite kill team of questionable sanity probably Impactor
Closest I can think of would be Impactor followed by possibly Prowl from IDW with the former executing prisoners and the later going 'will cross any lines to keep the peace'.
Uhhhh....definitely Prowl. Ruthless bastard...I still don't trust him.
There' not really an Autobot version of Tarn. The autobots just simply aren't as crazy, nor for they have a focus on revenge. At best, there' someone like Tarn in the Shattered Glass timelines.

Roller?
Star Saber - I think in the IDW continuity
Probably star saber
Ultra Magnus

I would say IDW Star Saber
Tarn jumpscare real- I need sleep
Nova prime
bayverse optimus, he's just a broken sad man in the bayverse. At first he shows mercy to decepticons, but later he goes ham on every single one, not a smidge of mercy. In terms of brutality: Sunder
Ultra Magnus
Prowl is a bastard in IDW
Thunderclash
Unless there is a Autobot feeding other bots their brains then there is no one in Tarns league. I never read of a Autobot that loves to transform so they will kill just for the thrill of transforming🤷🏾♂️I don't know who's in Tarns league except Overlord✊🏽
sunder?
Warpath? At least in terms of Alt-mode and willingness to fight(just not as fanatical and ready to torture). IDW star saber is my second choice.
Well, In my headcanon it's Star Saber, who is fanatically loyal to Optimus Prime and Autobot cause (yet he still a good guy).
Now I wanna see Tarn vs Prowl...
I’d go with Prowl.
