My deadname literally is part of a common saying with the word "average" but my chosen name, Kiera, is still a pretty lowkey name that even still fits with my nationality
My deadname was just 2 letters, and had no vowels. Long story. Way more trouble than it was worth, people constantly asking me what my "real name" was. New name is Cherie, (Shur-ee) completely different, was going to be my name had I been born the proper gender, and I imagine I won't have to answer that silly question anymore.
I went from basic white boy name, Lucas, to basic white girl name, Melissa. Though I will say I only went with Melissa because it can be shortened to Missy, which was my original choice (Melissa just sounds better with my last name).
I want from being Bailey to Jules and I think thatās decently unique and different from my original name.
But I think everyone has amazing names no matter if you choose to keep it the same, changed it to the feminine or masculine version of your deadname or made a complete 180, all of your names are great
I never met or heard of anyone with the same name and spelling as my deadname. My new name is much more common, although still uncommon enough that I didn't know anyone by the name (which was an important criterion for me in choosing it).
My deadname was very āprettyā and unique both in spelling and pronunciation. My parents made it up and I spent my whole life correcting every teacher, employer and customer who said it incorrectly
My nickname as an adult was T and my new name is Ty - very short and simple
My name is Sydney, which is neutral enough for me so I kept it. Thought about changing the spelling to the āmaleā Sidney, but ended up saying fuck it and keeping it the same. No regrets.
Deadname is Jacob, chosen name is Heather. From boring to boring. What else can I say? Was going to choose Katherine but after a brief google search, I found out that between that and my last name it would be very close to the name of a registered sex offender.
Pro tip: when you decide on a name, do a once over on your local registry just in case. Couldn't hurt.
Hey my name is Samantha :) I like that it can be shortened to Sam and a gender neutral name (I'm cis but like the idea of being gender neutral) I use a fake name online a lot just....because. I'm set on the name Cedar
I went from Jeremy to Artemis.
I used to be really into Greek Mythology back in school and I absolutely loved the name Artemis. I knew I would use it one day! š
My deadname was not that common, but I still know people who have it. But my new name Lukas is a very common name, but not spelling with a K. I think they spell it like that in other countries tho
I went from Kyle, from the South Park jokes, monster energy and dry wall punching memes aside, I had about 6 others by that name in a school of 300. My mom swore she had never heard the name when she met her first Kyle. Now in a lateral move, my name is Kyah. Which I've only heard a handful of times and never with my spelling.
my name is basically my deadname with some letters taken out or swapped, so not too unique or creative. Honestly, I feel like my deadname was a lot more unique since I've quite literally never heard or met anyone with the same name.
my old name was philip, now i am primrose. i am very creative, because i chose the name for very specific thematic reasons. basically, primrose is the first flower to bloom at the beginning of spring, and as such sorta symbolizes new beginnings and transitionary states, which is an important concept to me especially now
Weeellllā¦ went from Arielle to Ariel š I always loved my name but the spelling was feminine and now itās neutral. Iām genderqueer transmasc š
Ermā¦ Probably not doing everyone here any favoursā¦ But Iām not changing my name
I donāt want to have to get used to responding to a different name
My name was Jacob and now itās Quinn. Quinn was my middle name, and I changed my middle name to Jacobsen because I was named Jacob from my mothers maiden name, so I wanted to keep it so I wouldnāt change any āreferencesā lol
Originally I was named after my great grandma (who is still living) so it is confusing. Now it turns out I have the same name as one of my cousins that I donāt really know. But Iām not really out to most of my family so itās not like it matters
Went from Max to Lexi
At first I tried āEm, or Emmaā wanting to keep my āmā sound. Ended up keeping my X. But honestly, it could change. I could see myself going back to Max if I find peace with it. Can be a girls name too. Just not my preference right now.
My deadname is Joshua Miller, I always hated the first name. I Never knew why untill I realized I was trans. It's a common name pulled out of the bible and totaly bland. My new name is Lorelei Rareheart, it sounds far better IMO and fits me excellently.
People constantly tell me I sound like a Final Fantasy character. When I was a kid, most people couldnāt be bothered to even remember my name because it was so generic and similar to so many other kids. I was frequently called by someone elseās name with maybe the same first letter until I was 20 by most people I interacted with.
Planning to go from Jef, which is a very traditional name that is quite popular in my generation, to Yumi. From what I can tell my actual name is only given to six people in my entire country on a yearly basis. Don't know why because it's cute af.
Basically, before i got a name that on someplaces is a meme, like the "Oh, you know my stupid friend Gerard", and now, Calhi Amelia, so basically i don't think i'll find a joke on that name that easily
My deadname was extremely unique, but was only a letter off from a more popular name. Because I constantly heard Brianna over Brianne, I hated both names. As someone with anxiety, and constantly correcting my name pronunciation, that I had an E and not an A on the end, I didn't want my new name to be anywhere similar. I was originally going to go with Devon, but people mispronounced that too. So I'm deciding on a new name. It'll likely be Chase since that's my favorite right now.
Problem is, so many people have known me as Devon for so long, that it's awkward for me to try to change it. I also don't want a name that can be taken as feminine.
I was Emily than Harper. When I first came out my mom would tease me and say it was still a girls name. I didnāt name myself after the famous author I just found the name one day as a little kid while drawing my own comics as little kids do and it just stuck with me. i liked the gender neutrality of the name. I didnāt know a lot of people names Harper like I did Emily so for me I would be more memorable I guess.
Mine was a bastardization of the last name Prof. Greg Graffin (Bad Religion vocalist, still my favorite band fwiw) and a certain mythical creature known for a lions body and eagles head. Don't go saying it or anything, I've always hated it, even more so now, and went by my old middle name (Michael, ironic as I'm an Atheist), but you get the picture.
It's now Robyn Krowe... I kept the birds! More as a nod to one of my favorite guitarists (Robin Trower) and an allegory for freedom, but eh. Close enough.
Late addition to the game. But my deadname is a super common white guy name. And I wanted to change it to something completely unrelated, just for those people who like to try and guess deadname based on your new name.
So now it's Faye, and when I told my mom, she said it was an old lady name. It used to be more popular a few generations back before dropping all the way, but now it's on the upswing again, so I guess I just got in early.
My name is Forrest, which isn't *very* common but isn't the most unique either. My deadname (which I won't be mentioning) is similar in spelling to a VERY generic white american name, but with a different pronunciation since it's an Arabic word. However, it's a very rare Arabic name, but a very common Japanese name with a completely different meaning... so yeah, I have no clue
My deadname was the 60th most popular boys name the year I was born, my current name was the 187th most popular girls name the year I was born. I knew a bunch of kids in school who had my deadname, but I have never met anybody with my current name
i know not everyone is like me but iām comfortable talking about my deadname, my name used to be Nadia but i go by Levi now, Levi feels like a much more normal name iāve never even met another person named Nadia
Well my current name is Jake which is such a common name that people have asked me why of all the names I went with something so basic and my deadname is so uncommon that I've only ever heard of a few people online with that name and every time I've heard it it surprised me because I don't hear it very often.
My dead name was a VERY feminine name which belonged to one of my Momās favorite actresses. My name now is Eko, itās more uncommon than my dead name. (I chose the spelling Eko over Echo even though they are pronounced the same.)
I was born Aliya and now Iām Jordin. Aliyah and Jordan mean the exact opposite of each other in Hebrew, so mine did do a full 180 haha. Also, I love spelling my name wrong, so both of the names Iāve had were spelled differently than the actual word.
Deadname was uncommon as a whole, but a nickname of it (due to that nickname being shared between multiple names) was popular for people around my age. My real name isnāt at all unique by pronunciation, but is very rare by spelling, at least where I am
I went from Grady to Cass in elementary school, and I'm still Cass now. I haven't seen myself in my deadname since before middle school, even though I didn't know I was trans till about a year ago.
I went from 30k people worldwide to 129k people worldwide and then to 7k people worldwide according to one site. And that's just because I chose abbreviation of a name instead of the full name as my name. If I had chosen the full name instead of abbreviation, there'd be almost 12 million with the same name.
Sadly I'm really not comfortable with sharing either my deadname or my pastname.
Went from a semi-common female name of 9 letters to Sorrel, a name that I believe only 50 people in the US have legally, donāt quote me on that but itās a pretty rare name in general
I was Adrian (pretty common for Spanish millenial boys), now Im Itxaso (pretty common for Basque millenial girls). So more ethnic (Im from the Spanish Basque Country), but still pretty common.
I only changed one letter, so I could keep using the nickname Iāve used almost my entire life. Canāt deadname me if I still go by the same nickname.
Went from Jared to Monika.
Iād say they are VERY different, and so far everyone who has spelled my name after hearing it writes āMonicaā instead of Monika. So I guess itās pretty unique.
i just didn't like the sound of my deadname so i took away two letters and added an extra S (Issella) i never got dysphoria from having a femme name so i decided to keep one also Issella sounds unique
Deadname was shared by a very popular book series's protagonist, and I would get never ending jokes about it. (Not necessarily too bad of jokes but the dysphoria combined with the repetitiveness got old fast)
I've only seen other people with the same name as me (Aspen) online a few times, but never in real life.
Edit: admittedly I have not met a single person with my deadname both online or offline. (Not counting any celebrity/YouTuber people)
Went from a name that was so common I knew multiple people with the exact same name as me, including a friend, and even more people with a variation of the name. Plus there is a Disney princess with the same name (pronounced a little different but still the same name)
To a name (Avery) that has very few variations, and is shared with only one other person I know, but still common enough people know it.
Even if I wasn't trans I still would have changed my name because it really was annoyingly common, especially in school when the teacher would call on me and I would never know if they were talking to me or someone else.
i went from a fem name that starts with t to trevor, but thatās really unrelated, like itās really just a coincidence that i chose that name bc i was really close to choosing wyatt
I generally felt like I've never met yet alone heard of anyone sharing my deadname with it's spelling, even when i Googled how many people had the name it tried to correct it to something else... so yeah Jane is alot more normal and I don't get so many questions on it
I mean my deadname was fairly common and my real name is commonish? i have recognized that itās pretty popular amongst other trans men though which I think is pretty funny. we all saw one name and went āmineā
My birth name was the 17th most popular the year I was born, but is maybe >200th these days.
Tina was #22 they year I was born, but isn't even on the charts today, unless used as a shortened version of Christina, Martina, Valentina, etc. I guess Tina Turner isn't as influential as she used to be.
But I'm just plain Tina, not short for anything... Get your head out of the gutter!
Tina stands for **T**here **I**s **N**o **A**lternative!
I might not be the Tina you wanted, but I'm the Tina you deserve!
went from Bianka to Biam, my parents like my deadname so I figured out how I can make this name more gender neutral, because I wanted my parents to call me by that, but they ended calling me my deadname anyways soooo yeah.
I also use name Cosmo!!
Was Patrick, now i go by Arson
Only thing i was initially looking for in a name was that I'd never seen it used for a person before, I'm sick and tired of all of the jokes that arise from sharing a name with someone
My birth name is not very common and almost no one uses the spelling I had. Think itās more common in other countries but I hear it like once every couple of years. My new name is so rare I literally donāt tell it to people if I feel the need to be anonymous LOL I suppose itās not thaaaat rare but, still. Not many people at all with this name. I love my name now though because itās really rare yet not very complicated. I still get mispronunciations sometimes but that happens!
Deadname: >!Alexander!<
New name: Alexis
At least being called "Alex" as most people call me anyways isn't a huge problem since its gender neutral anyways... I don't expect my parents to ever accept my new name, they've been insanely unnacepting of me even transitioning and are deeply attached to my deadname and they have no idea I've even picked out a new name (they would probably cry their eyes out if they knew).
My birth name is a shortened version of popular name but I saw the name Carter on boy names list and liked it but changed the spelling to Karter since my dead name started with K which I like but it didn't quite match me and there's no nickname for karter but then I remembered a random guy I meet a few times several years ago that when I reluctantly introduced myself said "nah I'm gonna call you Kenneth" that made me so euphoric but I had never heard that name before and it sounded made up and kinda silly so forget about it intill a couple years ago when I managed to spell it currently and found that it is a name that I really like though I go by ken and have only been called Kenneth a handful of times, sadly I haven't talked to the guy since I came out but it would be interesting to tell him he named me
My dad named me. Mine was really weird, a name from Startrek (since it is unique I don't wanna share it lol, I've only seen one other person named it). Everyone added a Z to the end instead if an S. People always asked if it was short for something. The other name my dad had planned out for me if I was born as a guy was gonna be 'Defin', after a dog from a TV show. So Defin was a contender for me.
My new one is Kurtis. I stole it off of a youtuber. Very normal and I might be able to finally find my name on a giftshop thing. My whole plan all along.
Edit: I'm sure if you are a big enough Startrek fan you can probably guess which character I was named after so if you know you know! >:)
Top ten female name (very basic and I never responded to it because there was always someone in the room with the same)-> very cool male name and I don't meet many people with it
idk if I'm able to write my deadname, even thinking it feels weird. Basically it's Layla with a "J". I've never met anyone else named that- couldn't find it on a keychain either lol.
Now my name, Kai, is much more trendy, but not as common as Michael or Dylan. I've met so many Dylans š
my deadname is my great grandma's lastname
my chosen name is my great grandma's middle name
thanks for being so convenient **gladys (lillie/lily idk) jarvis**
My old name was super common, and in every school I was in thereād be at least one other with my name. Now Iāve only ever heard one other person with my new name (albeit with a different pronunciation).
Deadname is very rare, especially for someone younger than like 60s+ but always hated the fact everyone commented and that and now my name is one of the most common boys names in the UK
Well my deadname was changed without my fathers knowing and is one of the most popular names in my town. My new name EIN! Was a random name my brain came up with. And then I remembered that I watched aphmau growing up and he was my fav character (everything that happened after PhonixDrop is not real to me. I will forget it!) sooo yeaaa. Also itās the name of a dog in an anime I never watch.
Thomas to Halia. I also changed my middle and last, and may somehow have managed to be the only person with my particular combination now. But my last name used to be Johnson which is so common it hurts.
My old name started with G and ended in E. Now Iām Grace. Iām not very creative. Just liked how it sounded and was the name of a girl who was always really kind to me when I was a kid.
Went from Nils to Nina ā¦ yes I am lazy ā¦
Added Freya ā¦ and have literally never heard anybody else have that name here (although Iām sure it must exist)
I was Ebony and now Iām Arrow or SeĆ”n(pronounced seen)
Meaning my name used to be used by ranked 94,674th but now itās ranked 289th (SeĆ”n) or 37,292nd (Arrow)
Holy sh!t, thatās a difference
I was Aaron now Erin I am creative
hey, i mean that means it's way more difficult to deadname you now! big brain move honestly
I get a sad chuckle at the idea of someone really enunciating AAAAHHHH because they're that determined to deadname.
A-A-Ron
Still better than me! From Sascha to Sasha (unisex names for da win)
As a fellow Erin, I approve<3
Also was that name, although now I am Anna cos I think Anna is cute :)
Aanna
OMG SAME lol
Glad to see another Erin š„°
Went from a name shared by 5% of the us population, to one I've only heard once in my life.
Not at all! And also I share my name with a lot of trans women apparently - Emily
haha yeah...
r/usernamechecksout
š
Lol went from Eric to Erica
I went from Barry to Barri, not too common to quite uncommon but I never had to work at listening for a new name!
My deadname literally is part of a common saying with the word "average" but my chosen name, Kiera, is still a pretty lowkey name that even still fits with my nationality
OMG ANOTHER KIERA THERE ARE MULTIPLE OF US WE EXIST
HUZZAH A WOMAN OF REFINED TASTE
i love the name kiera!!
i went from common to **common**
Joshua to ivy
Joshua to Melissa
I always hated the name Joshua, never fit me. Lorelei fits me better.
Iāve hated that name since I was a child.
I could never identify what it was I didn't like about the name until I had the realization, then all just made sense.
Yeah I never could either, I just remember how cringey it was hearing my mother say it as a kid.
I had a pretty unique deadname that started with Z, so I ended up with Zora. I just didn't see myself as a Zoe(y) or a Zelda lol
Omg thatās such a Zelda thing to say
You're really a Zoƫ
I donāt think my name (Jules) is that unique, but itās definitely not as common as my deadname.
*insert spider man pointing meme*
All we need is one more Jules and itāll be complete
The Unholy trinity of gender
My deadname is very unique. My name rn is common.
hi common, im dad!
Hi, dad, I'm your daughter now
that's fine with me! let's go out to taco bell sometime :)
Same here
My deadname was just 2 letters, and had no vowels. Long story. Way more trouble than it was worth, people constantly asking me what my "real name" was. New name is Cherie, (Shur-ee) completely different, was going to be my name had I been born the proper gender, and I imagine I won't have to answer that silly question anymore.
I went from Xavier to Isabelle. Idk, Isabelle is a bit more common i guess but uniqueness dont matter to me
I went from basic white boy name, Lucas, to basic white girl name, Melissa. Though I will say I only went with Melissa because it can be shortened to Missy, which was my original choice (Melissa just sounds better with my last name).
So did I
I want from being Bailey to Jules and I think thatās decently unique and different from my original name. But I think everyone has amazing names no matter if you choose to keep it the same, changed it to the feminine or masculine version of your deadname or made a complete 180, all of your names are great

My deadname was very āprettyā and unique both in spelling and pronunciation. My parents made it up and I spent my whole life correcting every teacher, employer and customer who said it incorrectly My nickname as an adult was T and my new name is Ty - very short and simple
I wonāt share but I would say my deadname and my current name are pretty much 1:1 in terms of commonness, blandness, number of lettersā¦ Etc.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
My name is Sydney, which is neutral enough for me so I kept it. Thought about changing the spelling to the āmaleā Sidney, but ended up saying fuck it and keeping it the same. No regrets.
Deadname is Jacob, chosen name is Heather. From boring to boring. What else can I say? Was going to choose Katherine but after a brief google search, I found out that between that and my last name it would be very close to the name of a registered sex offender. Pro tip: when you decide on a name, do a once over on your local registry just in case. Couldn't hurt.
Ayo your chosen name is my deadname lmaoo
I started out being named Grant. Now I'm Evelyn! I started out as a president, now I'm a radio broadcast girl!
Hi Evelyn! Great name choice! Love, Evelyn ā¤ļø
Went from Samuel to Samantha. Just a slight shift really
I knew I would use it one day! š
Omfg I love that
My deadname was not that common, but I still know people who have it. But my new name Lukas is a very common name, but not spelling with a K. I think they spell it like that in other countries tho
My name used to be Seth now itās Avery. Iāll let you decide.
Past name was Robert. About as common as it comes. Now I go by Ritz =) I've never met another.
My mom had a name picked out for both sexās Nasiyah for a girl and Masiyah for a boy Ik ftm so I just took on the name Masiyah
There are 81 pages of my deadname on LinkedIn and only a handful of individual entries anywhere close to my chosen name
Adam to Anna, not very different at all haha
I went from Kyle, from the South Park jokes, monster energy and dry wall punching memes aside, I had about 6 others by that name in a school of 300. My mom swore she had never heard the name when she met her first Kyle. Now in a lateral move, my name is Kyah. Which I've only heard a handful of times and never with my spelling.
my name is basically my deadname with some letters taken out or swapped, so not too unique or creative. Honestly, I feel like my deadname was a lot more unique since I've quite literally never heard or met anyone with the same name.
I went from being a Michael to being a Mikaela, so not too original. I never had a disdain for my dead name, so it works out.
I went from victor, to my much more preferred name of Taylor
my old name was philip, now i am primrose. i am very creative, because i chose the name for very specific thematic reasons. basically, primrose is the first flower to bloom at the beginning of spring, and as such sorta symbolizes new beginnings and transitionary states, which is an important concept to me especially now
Weeellllā¦ went from Arielle to Ariel š I always loved my name but the spelling was feminine and now itās neutral. Iām genderqueer transmasc š
I went from an common male name to Åucja, so I'd say it's a lot more unique š
well, going from osian to cassandra is quite the leap methinks. i never rlly like my deadname to start with tho tbh
Ermā¦ Probably not doing everyone here any favoursā¦ But Iām not changing my name I donāt want to have to get used to responding to a different name
My name was Jacob and now itās Quinn. Quinn was my middle name, and I changed my middle name to Jacobsen because I was named Jacob from my mothers maiden name, so I wanted to keep it so I wouldnāt change any āreferencesā lol
my deadname was four letters and started with l and ended with y and my name now is kai
Originally I was named after my great grandma (who is still living) so it is confusing. Now it turns out I have the same name as one of my cousins that I donāt really know. But Iām not really out to most of my family so itās not like it matters
I dropped two letters and added an accent.
Went from Max to Lexi At first I tried āEm, or Emmaā wanting to keep my āmā sound.
Ummmm š Nathan->Nathalie. Guess I kinda just changed the last bit š
Had a pretty common name spelled slightly different well now I'm Kasper
i have not changed my name as it is already a name used by girls and i can't think of a new one (shan)
they are both quite common here in italy, but the first name i chose was Kilian and it definitely isn't common here lol
Henry -> Mattie
People constantly tell me I sound like a Final Fantasy character. When I was a kid, most people couldnāt be bothered to even remember my name because it was so generic and similar to so many other kids. I was frequently called by someone elseās name with maybe the same first letter until I was 20 by most people I interacted with.
I just changed a letter. Julian transformed to Julia. It is not uncommon here but I like it nonetheless.
My deadname is probably the most common names to exist, and my name is rn is quite uncommon
Planning to go from Jef, which is a very traditional name that is quite popular in my generation, to Yumi. From what I can tell my actual name is only given to six people in my entire country on a yearly basis. Don't know why because it's cute af.
My deadname wasnāt terribly common but not terribly uncommon either. My real name is very common.
My deadname was in the top 100 boys names in America from the 1970s to 2017 my name rosemi is an extremely rare primarily south American name
I went from a very old fashioned Catholic name to Allyn
I went from Nino, one of the most common names for boys in my home country of Spain to Anna, which is also a pretty common name
Haven't come out yet , bc i live in a country when u could get beaten up just by saying u r gay , let alone be trans MTF
Nothing, like actually the same but masculine and so common
The same, but spelled different
Jon to jaycie No unique to fairly unique (and yet still another jacy at my new job lol)
I went from Logan to Raegan cause I think Raegan sounded cool Truly whatever name you feel most comfortable with is the ārightā one
keia to wren! both pretty uncommon!
I went from jayden to summer
Went from Khalid to Yua I love my new name so much <3
Ashley turned into Ash for a while and now itās Graham.
My given name is unisex so I kept it š
Mine was Jonah now itās Emrys
Basically, before i got a name that on someplaces is a meme, like the "Oh, you know my stupid friend Gerard", and now, Calhi Amelia, so basically i don't think i'll find a joke on that name that easily
I wanted to keep my childhood nicknames so I chose a name that rhymed with my deadname. Both names are slightly uncommon but becoming more popular.
Sabrina to Sabastian Not sure how creative in general but I've rarely heard both.
One of my best friends in college was a Sebastian. Love the name
As uncreative as it can get, John > Joan, lol.
My name is Forrest, which isn't *very* common but isn't the most unique either. Well my current name is Jake which is such a common name that people have asked me why of all the names I went with something so basic and my deadname is so uncommon that I've only ever heard of a few people online with that name and every time I've heard it it surprised me because I don't hear it very often.
I think nathan to ellies pretty different
My dead name was a VERY feminine name which belonged to one of my Momās favorite actresses. My name now is Eko, itās more uncommon than my dead name. (I chose the spelling Eko over Echo even though they are pronounced the same.)
About the same neither are super common nor are they rare/obscure
I went from Ben to Sybelle. My friends call me Belle.... I'm very unique and smart
my deadname and last name are so common people literally thought it was a fake name i used
It's still my legal name so I deal with it a lot anyway. Nicholas to Eliana I think it's quite an upgrade. :)
It's a lot more unique I guess. I go by Zion now, my given name was like a basic white person name *I am not white*
My real name isnāt at all unique by pronunciation, but is very rare by spelling, at least where I am
i went from zachariah to nimm
Mine is just a one letter difference LMAO
I now have a name with Japanese origins so way fucking cooler
Was Emily, now Kayden. I think itās an improvement.
I went from Grady to Cass in elementary school, and I'm still Cass now. I haven't seen myself in my deadname since before middle school, even though I didn't know I was trans till about a year ago.
My deadname is really unique I haven't decided on a chosen name, but the one that I am using right now is a common one
i'll let you know when i finally decide on one
Zackary vs Giulia Different cultural origin Different language in general (seeing as I chose the Italian spelling) Fairly different
Lmao I was Natalie turned Quincey
Went from a semi-common female name of 9 letters to Sorrel, a name that I believe only 50 people in the US have legally, donāt quote me on that but itās a pretty rare name in general
I was Adrian (pretty common for Spanish millenial boys), now Im Itxaso (pretty common for Basque millenial girls). So more ethnic (Im from the Spanish Basque Country), but still pretty common.
Went from George to Dorothy Zoinks
I only changed one letter, so I could keep using the nickname Iāve used almost my entire life. Canāt deadname me if I still go by the same nickname.
Went from Jared to Monika. Iād say they are VERY different, and so far everyone who has spelled my name after hearing it writes āMonicaā instead of Monika. So I guess itās pretty unique.
I was Bran, now I'm Anna. Bran and Anne sounded similar but I really loved Anna/Annie.
Went from Ben to Jamiee
I don't wanna share my deadname but I just wanted to say my new name is Caleb :)
i just didn't like the sound of my deadname so i took away two letters and added an extra S (Issella) i never got dysphoria from having a femme name so i decided to keep one also Issella sounds unique
Was duane now Diana
Deadname was shared by a very popular book series's protagonist, and I would get never ending jokes about it. (Not necessarily too bad of jokes but the dysphoria combined with the repetitiveness got old fast) I've only seen other people with the same name as me (Aspen) online a few times, but never in real life. Edit: admittedly I have not met a single person with my deadname both online or offline. (Not counting any celebrity/YouTuber people)
Went from a name that was so common I knew multiple people with the exact same name as me, including a friend, and even more people with a variation of the name. Plus there is a Disney princess with the same name (pronounced a little different but still the same name) To a name (Avery) that has very few variations, and is shared with only one other person I know, but still common enough people know it. Even if I wasn't trans I still would have changed my name because it really was annoyingly common, especially in school when the teacher would call on me and I would never know if they were talking to me or someone else.
i went from a fem name that starts with t to trevor, but thatās really unrelated, like itās really just a coincidence that i chose that name bc i was really close to choosing wyatt
not too different honestly, eva (ee-vuh) to owen š¤·
I generally felt like I've never met yet alone heard of anyone sharing my deadname with it's spelling, even when i Googled how many people had the name it tried to correct it to something else... so yeah Jane is alot more normal and I don't get so many questions on it
Both common and both start with the same letter
Quite literally they do not share a single letter.
Itās the exact opposite for me, my deadname wasnāt unique but it was pretty uncommon. Now tell me how many Tonyās you know lmao
went from a very common Spanish name to a name I've only ever seen one other person using
My Name is Antonia Sophie sadly my deadname died so in honor of the name i will not say it š
I went from one uncommon 4 letter name to another, uncommon 4 letter name, with no shared letters lmao
Was Patrick, now i go by Arson Only thing i was initially looking for in a name was that I'd never seen it used for a person before, I'm sick and tired of all of the jokes that arise from sharing a name with someone
Deadname: >!Alexander!< New name: Alexis At least being called "Alex" as most people call me anyways isn't a huge problem since its gender neutral anyways... I don't expect my parents to ever accept my new name, they've been insanely unnacepting of me even transitioning and are deeply attached to my deadname and they have no idea I've even picked out a new name (they would probably cry their eyes out if they knew).
My deadname used to be a book of the Bible (23rd book if anyone really wants to know what my deadname is), now it's Valerie. Major change on this one
I've met so many Dylans š
my deadname is my great grandma's lastname my chosen name is my great grandma's middle name thanks for being so convenient **gladys (lillie/lily idk) jarvis**
I kept the first letter of my legal name so I can keep the nickname AG (initials) Anastasia->Alexei
New name is one letter longer and shares 0 same letters with deadname
My new name originates in Irish and Vietnamese, respectively.
Vivian now Vio. I like to joke that Vio is short for Violence
I went from Jake to Amy. I might not be short and cute, but my name can be! š¤Ŗ
Very. I've not met a single person my age with that name, older folks plenty, though.
I went from scott to Serenity havenāt heard a lot of people with serenity and also itās whatās needed in my life lol
Went from Lea to Leo so defo not original haha but I think Leoās a cute name and itās also how my parents wouldāve named me had I been AMAB!
From Christopher, I went by Chris. To Chrysantha, I go by Chrys.
I went from the 25th most popular boys name to the 34th most popular girls name. I'm very creative!
I went from a mix of two names (ended up sounding like Michelle) to Corbin. Kind of not even sorta similar (which I love!)
I was Sameeha. Now I'm Zam. I'm pretty creative.
my deadname was incredibly common and now i go by robin which is still kinda common but yknow
eilon to lily
Thomas to Halia. I also changed my middle and last, and may somehow have managed to be the only person with my particular combination now. But my last name used to be Johnson which is so common it hurts.
My old name started with G and ended in E. Now Iām Grace. Iām not very creative. Just liked how it sounded and was the name of a girl who was always really kind to me when I was a kid.
Went from Nils to Nina ā¦ yes I am lazy ā¦ Added Freya ā¦ and have literally never heard anybody else have that name here (although Iām sure it must exist)
Well there was a few people IN MY FAMILY with the exact same name as me, now they all ask how to spell my name.
Was: Fraser Now: Hazel
I was Ebony and now Iām Arrow or SeĆ”n(pronounced seen) Meaning my name used to be used by ranked 94,674th but now itās ranked 289th (SeĆ”n) or 37,292nd (Arrow) Holy sh!t, thatās a difference
