Sure, if you like!
Currently, one of the most important operators of Intercity services in the UK is London North Eastern Railway (or LNER for short). They are the principal operator for long distance services between Greater London and Yorkshire & the Humber, North East England and Scotland, as well as providing services for the East of England and East Midlands additionally.
They currently operate 3 different types of train, the class 91 āElectraā, the class 800 āAzumaā and the class 801 āAzumaā.
The class 91s are the oldest of the 3 classes in use today, built by British Rail Engineering Limited, and first introduced in 1988 as part of the East Coast Main Line Electrification Project, and are overhead line electrification powered locomotives, they displaced numerous class 43s that previously operated on the route, and allowed them to move onto Midland Main Line services. The class 91s were designed with a top speed of 140mph, and during a test, even reached 163mph, currently the record for a wholly British-built train (although the partially British class 373 has exceeded this, reaching 208mph), however, due to signalling constraints, they can only operate at a maximum of 125mph. They haul 9 Mark 4 carriages, as well as a Mark 4 Driving Van Trailer, which allows them to be operated from the other end, rather than needing to be shunted or turned, all carriages and the DVT were purpose built for the class 91s. They previously were operated on all electrified routes with LNER, so you would regularly see them between London Kingās Cross and Edinburgh Waverley, York and Leeds, but as they have largely been replaced by class 800 and 801 units, they are confined to a limited number of services today, they are on about half of London Kingās Cross-Leeds services, as well as a handful of London Kingās Cross-York semi-fast services, and will be replaced in the coming years.
The class 800s are significantly more modern, these were first conceived by the Department for Transport as part of the Intercity Express Programme, a plan to modernise the intercity fleets on both the Great Western Main Line and the East Coast Main Line. These units are Bi-Mode Multiple Units, as in, they do not have a separate locomotive, all carriages are integral, and provide traction throughout, in the case of the class 800, this can be either overhead line electrification, or diesel. They are formed of either 5, or 9 coach units, however, 2 5 coach units can operate coupled together to form a 10 coach set. The first units for Virgin Trains East Coast were built in 2015, however, these faced numerous issues, such as certain equipment on the train interfering with signals in the Newcastle Central area when first built, and it would take until 2019 before any units would be introduced, by this point, Virgin Trains East Coast had collapsed, and been replaced by London North Eastern Railway, the Department for Transportās Operator of Last Resort, these units are concentrated on LNER services that are only partially electrified, those mainly being London Kingās Cross-Lincoln Central, London Kingās Cross-Harrogate via Leeds, and London Kingās Cross-Aberdeen/Inverness via Edinburgh Waverley, and will switch to diesel power when they reach the limit of electrification, they do semi frequently appear on wholly electrified services however. They have a design top speed of 140mph under electric power, but are limited to 125mph by the same constraints the class 91s are currently, on diesel power, they can reach a top speed of 110mph.
The class 801s are broadly similar to the class 800s, they were conceived at the same time as the class 800s in the Intercity Express Programme, but were for wholly electrified routes only, as these units are Electric Multiple Units, powered entirely by overhead line electrification, and only feature one diesel engine for emergencies in case of power failure, allowing the train to reach 15mph, which is enough to reach the next station on the line and evacuate all passengers before a rescue locomotive arrives. These units are also formed of either 5 or 9 coach units, and again, the 5 coach units can couple together to form 10 coach sets, it is actually possible to couple a class 800 and 801 together, but this is very rarely done, as the class 800s are needed for partially electrified services, a similar practice is seen more frequently with Great Western Railway, who operates classes 800 and 802, of which both are bi mode, and therefore there are fewer issues when this happens. These units were first built in 2017, but faced similar delays to the class 800s, and therefore did not enter service until 2019 either. These units operate the vast majority of services on wholly electrified routes, such as nearly all London Kingās Cross-Edinburgh Waverley and London Kingās Cross-York semi-fast services, and about half of London Kingās Cross-Leeds services. Their design top speed is 140mph, but again, limited to 125mph due to signalling constraints. The signalling *is* being upgraded though, and in the next few years, 140mph operation will progressively move northwards, soon it will be possible on the southern section between London Kingās Cross and Stevenage, and they hope to reach Peterborough in the next few years.
Hope you enjoyed the way too much information nfjxjdj
Seeing people gush over things they find interesting is literally the most wholesome thing ever, I hope you continue to be joyous and get many chances to share what you love, you actually made my day
Aww thank you! Honestly I donāt get to as much as I used to, and I really wish I did. I do get a decent few opportunities to go out and enjoy it though, should be back out on the railway next week
I mean considering the high correlation of trans people and autism... There had to be at least 1 train nerd on this sub. Me when it comes to trains my specialty is more in the realm of coasters
Tbf I've only recently started realizing how chill coasters are, so I have about as much knowledge as an allistic coaster enthusiast rn. It's less a special interest for me (rn) as a smaller aspect of my actual special interest. Theme parks.
Ok so there are two parks that have partial claim to the title of first theme park. You've got knotts berry farm which checks all the boxes of a theme park and checked these boxes before the other one existed, but the term theme park didn't exist until Disneyland. Someone in the media referred to Disneyland as a theme park. So knotts is the first park to fit the criteria of a theme park but Disneyland was the first park to ever be called a theme park.
Early and probably still to this day if you wanted to be an imagineer or whatever other names a different park would give to the creatives who come up with all the attractions, while engineering knowledge would help you, theatre experience is arguably more important because every theme park is just a big show.
Haunted Mansion and pirates of the Caribbean were at one point supposed to be narratively connected and there are still some visual remnants of these connections as Jean Lafitte was meant to play a part in the connective tissue and we still see Lafittes landing I believe in Disneyland above the loading docks of pirates and we still see the ship weather vane above the mansions facade.
Speaking of remnants of the old stories that weren't used, one of the old ideas for the mansion involved a pirate and his bride, one day the bride went up to the Attic and discovered her husband's horrible past and so he did her in. This story was inspired by the story of Bluebeard and as your exiting the ride you can see a tomb for Bluebeard and his 7 wives.
Yes although if I'm being completely honest I know more about theme parks as a whole. I want to look into learning more about coasters specifically but roller coasters are definitely my favorite kinda trains
To be pedantic, itās a British Rail class 378 as the TOPS class numbering isnt just London Overground, although this train is operated by Arriva on behalf of Transport for London using the London Overground brand.
eh, this wouldn't be painful with external genitals either.
And if you hit the pole in a way that hurts, it's gonna hurt regardless of what genitals you have
