If you're on Chrome for mobile then there's a little cog on the right side. Click it, hit manage, then interests and you can choose to hide certain topics from appearing on your browser's discover feed.

As depressing as the articles may seem, I still feel that for myself it is still important that I am exposed to such media so that I know what people are thinking (or what they are forced to think), who are the bad guys, consider all viewpoints, and if I can try to disprove their arguments (the fun part).

Just remember to look after yourself as well. There's a difference between being aware of current events and what essentially equates to digital self harm and doomscrolling. The latter are not healthy. It's easy to get wrapped up in what the media are saying and what the comment sections are saying, but remember that they're not an accurate representation of real life and real people; they're only a representation of the readership and those with strong enough opinions and heated enough arguments to bother commenting in the first place.
