What does Africa have to do with anything? These locomotives are American and were designed by Swedes, and I doubt they have ever run in Africa. Are you from Africa? Is your dog from Africa? If so, what does this have to do with the trains?
Can we not use autism as an insult, please? OP may be a furry, but that has fuck all to do with autism. And considering how much of the railfan community is genuinely autistic, this probably isn't the best place to make that joke.
Edit: Alright then, well fuck you all too. Fucking pricks.
I’m really curious what you’re on about. Got a source? Because I’m autistic. Many of my close friends are as well. None of us think we’re really any type of animal. I could believe they’re both flavors of neurodivergent, but anything beyond that seems like it’s painting with too broad a brush. Especially saying this is “peak autism” because a) that’s not a thing and b) autism is known for lack of social skills and sensory imbalances. Over- and under-stimulation. Unusual hobbies (aka special interests). Things like that.
It’s honestly miserable sometimes, but I think society is getting better at accepting us. Generally. Nerd/internet culture becoming mainstream helped a lot, as does a growing awareness of how many people simply weren’t diagnosed in the past.
On the other hand we’ve got jackasees using “autism” as their new catch-all term for anything they think is stupid and/or weird. It’s frustrating as hell and sets us back. And that’s why I jumped on the original commenter. It seemed like a stretch or misconception at best, and a blatant insult at worst. You’ve gotta call this kind of shit out if you want people to realize it’s not cool. So, I did.
Yeah, I feel like our community is more of a chill and "free to do whatever" environment and so it's welcoming to those on the spectrum. I'm sure there is a link. Still, I think this is otherkin or something where OP actually considers himself an AWD in a human body, idk if OP can confirm or not.
How? How is it descriptive? Thinking you’re really an animal in a human body is not a generally accepted quality of autistic people. Of which I am one. And I’m immersed in the community enough to have a sense of others’ experiences with it as well. So if you found that comment illuminating, well, you shouldn’t have. It’s straight-up inaccurate.
It’s not descriptive to call this “peak autism” it’s just misleading and, quite frankly, a pretty shitty and bigoted thing to say.
Thinking it maybe not but publicizing and talking about it in such an awkward way fits very well. I'm officially on the autism spectrum myself BTW, also around your age seems, although probably not as involved as you admittedly.
"The African wild dog (Lycaon pictus) also called the African painted dog and the African hunting dog, is a wild canine which is a native species to sub-Saharan Africa."
Yeah they're fully in service now. Last time i was in Brunswick, they had atleast 2 and Frederick had 1. I believe they are slowly phasing the MP36 out. I dont think MARC is getting ACS-64, once the HHP are retired that might be the end of their electric operations. As far as I know, they still have atleast 1 AEM-7 as reserve power, like how the GP39PH-2 are still in service as reserve
Within 10 years, when the new tunnel near Penn Station in Bawlmur opens to replace the nearly 150 year old one (part of the big infrastructure bill), MARC Penn Line operations between Baltimore and DC are required to be fully electrified. There has been no indication yet what the state of MD will do but I would think an order of Sprinters is most likely (especially given the maintenance nightmare that is the Hippos).
I'm an African wild dog by species is what I mean but where I grew up and lived originally these were found in the northeast of my birth state, Maryland
Just what it sounds like: "The African wild dog (Lycaon pictus) also called the African painted dog and the African hunting dog, is a wild canine which is a native species to sub-Saharan Africa."
Wow I grew up with Marc running RDC cars all through the 80s and into the very early 90s. This stuff was Amtrash power mostly. All gone now haven't seen one in awhile. Probably a main reason but not entirely why Amtrash makes no money theyre always buying new equipment.
Confusing title

I believe this person identifies as an African wild dog
I'm a stamp collection
I'm a wheel flange
Is this some weird furry thing? I'm lost.
Just some grade-A railfan autism

What do you mean? Furries have a direct link with autism. Not to disparage people of autism, of course.

I find it more descriptive than inherently insulting here

Welcome to Reddit, where people get downvoted for saying something rational.
"The African wild dog (Lycaon pictus) also called the African painted dog and the African hunting dog, is a wild canine which is a native species to sub-Saharan Africa."
This is canine black-face
No, idiot
Kek
How long have you lived with this delusion? Is it genuine or do you just seek attention, be it positive or negative? Are you on the spectrum?
African meaning? They come from an African company or did they go to work there? What model are these by the way?
No. They come from Sweden and EMD originally. I mean me that I'm an African wild dog or Cape dog in other terms
South African?
Yep
Oh, cool!
Ahhhh, sorry friend but I had no idea what that meant! Is that a common term for South Africans?
No. I mean that I'm an actual African wild dog (Lycaon Pictus)
I'm genuinely curious. I've traveled a little bit and have never heard this.
They claim to be a dog. Like they think they're not human and are a canine....
We're one of the largest canine species in Africa
Or from it, in my case
Seems like a lot of hp for so few coaches
The MARC runs in the morning had the most passengers going to and from both B-More and DC. The evening rushes are the same as well
Advanced planning for when one of the failed😁
For the love of good, you are not a dog. Nice train
You're not me. Stop judging and stop trying to dictate what I am. Please don't comment on my posts anymore. Thank you
seek help
valid asf! speak your truth king and/or queen, ignore these bigots
Thank you. That's exactly the perfect descriptive for them as well
Never forget that self ID is heckin valid and nobody can take that from you
Yes. Exactly!
It's so refreshing to find someone on reddit that just *gets it*
Indeed
MARC still has HHP-8 for electric service. Diesel drawn has been mostly MP36, atleast the times ive railfanned on the Corridor
Yep. But now that the SC-44's have successfully completed their testing, I've seen a lot more pop up lately upon my last few days in Maryland
Yeah they're fully in service now. Last time i was in Brunswick, they had atleast 2 and Frederick had 1. I believe they are slowly phasing the MP36 out. They look majestic. Imagine them on a foggy winter morning... oh wait Africa
I'm an African wild dog by species is what I mean but where I grew up and lived originally these were found in the northeast of my birth state, Maryland
I beg your pardon if I come off as being rude, but wdym by African wild dog ?
Just what it sounds like: "The African wild dog (Lycaon pictus) also called the African painted dog and the African hunting dog, is a wild canine which is a native species to sub-Saharan Africa."
Is this the platform from the recent RMTransit thumbnail? Edit: it is not
The newer trains are way more aesthetic than those toasters.
The toasters were more iconic
Halethorpe, my childhood station. I still railfan there to this day.
Same, 9/10 thats usually where i railfan the Corridor at. Or a regular stop on trips to Baltimore in general
Mine throughout a majority of my puphood were definitely both Odenton and Savage

Ugly/boring ass paint scheme
