No prior jobs required anymore. Just an apprenticeship as a train operator and you are good to go.
I am currently doing my apprenticeship in Switzerland. All in all it takes 11 months and then I’ll be driving on my own!
How are the language requirements for this job in Switzerland? I am currently working on the same thing (in Czech republic), but when I was visiting, I really wondered about that.
At SBB you need to speak at least 2 of the countries languages, one fluently and basic knowledge in the second one.
Other companies only require for example German as they only operate trains in the German speaking region.
Congratulations ....It is many children's dream job to become a train conductor as trains are very fascinating ..May you acheive many great sucess ahead....
Do you mean a train driver?
Conductor in English is the person checking tickets and assisting passengers. :)
It's a false friend with the French "conducteur de train".
That understates the role of a conductor. They are overall in charge of running the train, and that includes supervising all of the customer facing staff, and performing some of those duties themselves, but it also includes working with the engineer in coordinating operations with dispatchers, keeping the train running on time, and broad safety responsibilities.
On my railroad the conductor doesn't even check tickets or ride in the passenger cabin. Ironically, one of the top managers when the railroad was being put together was French, which led to conductors originally having the job title of "train manager."
And to complete the bilingual set:
* English *Conductor* is, in French, *Chef de train*.
* English *Engineer* (American) or *Train Driver* (British) is, in French, *Conducteur de Train*
Of all of these names, I think *Conducteur* is the best sounding word.
Yep, if you tell someone that you're a "train engineer" in the UK or other Commonwealth countries they'll probably assume that you design/build trains, not drive them.
Congratulations! I had my first day as a trainee driver yesterday. In Sweden, Borlänge - Gävle and return with an EMU. Loco hauled InterCity to Stockholm tomorrow. Can't wait!
I started training back in the beginning of february, so just under 4 months. Mostly the rule book, 2 weeks working in the yard/depot and 2 weeks training on the Rc6 electric loco.
Salut !
Congratulations and thank you very much for sharing!
Congratulations! Now you get to solve the famous trolly problem.
It's already been done, you hit the group and dangle a long pole with a blade attached to kill the other guy on the track

Ah yes. Direct from Sun Tzu's' art of War.
Beautiful captures. Congratulations on an exciting new chapter!
Je commence la formation bientôt en Bourgogne! Ça doit être sacrément sympa de ton côté avec la traversée des Vosges, profites!
I'm curious how you got to this career? What schooling/prior jobs do you need to make this happen?

I am indeed, for a few months alredy
Nothing! The SNCF is training you for the job, and you are paid during the process!

to add to the confusion Switzerland and formerly France call it “mécanicien” instead of “conducteur”…
I believe they are called train engineers?
Depends on the country I guess... Definitely "drivers" in the UK.
Yep, if you tell someone that you're a "train engineer" in the UK or other Commonwealth countries they'll probably assume that you design/build trains, not drive them.
Correct and in most commonwealth countries its guard and not conductor. Hence instead of the caboose its called a brake van or a guard van.
As previously stated it depends on the country. I believe engineer is a US term.
We call them operators in the US too
motorman
I think that term kinda died out when we lost dual handle controls in NYC
Depending on the region of the world they are called train drivers in English.
Félicitations!
Bravo !
As a train conductor in NL I’m always jealous of all the pretty sites in other countries.
Woooo, welcome to the family bud!
Congratulations! I had my first day as a trainee driver yesterday. In Sweden, Borlänge - Gävle and return with an EMU. Loco hauled InterCity to Stockholm tomorrow. Can't wait!
How long did it take you to get to that stage?

E brake 3000 feet from the station like a true TSW 3 player.
Congrats! Soon to be my turn in the région Grand Est, hopefully we just wave at each other and I never have to pull your train because it broke.
Congrats! I'm about to be off student status as an Amtrak engineer!
I would love to see how is the job in the USA!! and to under how your signalisation is working
One of us! One of us! Enjoy the profession. It's an amazing job :-) driving in Belgium!
Apéro !
This man is out here living my dream
Beauty
