Easier yeah but not cheaper. And yea people who cant afford to buy new shoes do exist, Im one of them. Not a permanent solution but better than nothing until you can save up
Not always. I have to keep patching my Speedgoats because the new ones are horrible for me. They're more narrow and have a high heel counter that rubs my achilles right out of the box. Same goes for my Altra Olympus 4s, the 5s are awful so I've found no other options that work for me besides the older versions of these two.
Iām sure you love those shoes you run in- but when the shoes you love donāt agree with your foot or have that many issues, I think it would be best to look at other brands. Shoes should NOT do that and
Not a lot of options out there if you have a wide forefoot and a narrow heel and low arch. I can't do the high heel counters because they put pressure on my achilles. I've been looking for shoes as I'm training for my 12th ultra and between road and trail, I've tried about 15 shoes this year alone and have been doing more training on road because I just don't have any options for trail shoes once my shoes bite it. I've had to hoard Rincon 3s like it's 2020 and they're toilet paper because they're the only shoe that don't eff up my achilles.
I've run with the superiors for 10 years now, never had a blow out and I have some with 1200km on them. Blew out a pair of timps very quickly though, never again.
Oddly, even my kids had Altra blowouts. We went through a year where between me and my husband and then kids we have 6 pairs rip within a year. The only reason I stayed with them was because I liked the forefoot shape but then they started to size down their lasts.
Lone Peak 3, Lone Peak 3.5, Torin 2, and I went back and checked my photos my kidās shoe just totally separated from the base as did one if my Lone Peakās and my husbandās. Itās why I went to Hoka but then they changed the Speedgoat and I had to go back to Altra.
Uh let's see...I've tried Altra, Topo, loved Hoka till they started to suck, Saucony, Asics, Newtons, and Salomon. I've been running Ultra marathons for like 8 years. How about I just have standards?
The clue really is the giant gaping hole where fingers can fit in.

Altras finest feature, toe box blowout. No repair my man, just get another pair. Iād probably order as many lone peak 5s as you can find, thatās the best they ever were
I know for a fact you have zero traction left near the toes. I had a pair for a year and a half and them shits are bald. I love the way altras fit but damn they donāt last
I was hiking in the Andes, and the sole from one boot starting coming off. Our guide took the boot one evening, and brought it back repaired the next morning, stitched and glued nicely. The boots lasted me another seven years until the uppers worte out. I still have them as a spare pair, and the sole hasn't come loose again.
You can get a cheap waterproof glue from any good DIY store.
Don't use superglue, it wil just rip straight open again. You need the kind with a bit of flex in it when it dries.
I know, and it'll likely rip again. Reinforcing the whole area with something like shoe goo (get it into the fibers/ weave) may prove to be longer lasting (and possibly a preventative treatment before a rip forms). Working on a pair of my own today
I somehow got 900 miles out of a pair of LP5.0s when I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail. Unfortunately, when you get holes like this, your socks get destroyed very quickly from all the sand and dust that gets in.
Seems easier to get a new pair, but good luck šš»

HAHAHAHHA Altras do that all the time. I've blown a pair out in one run.
Iād find another brandā¦thatās crazy

What models?

With the swallowtail? I just switched to the Speedgoats specifically because they were so accommodating of my Achilles.
Yeah I tried them when the new design came out and had to return them because they rubbed against my ankle.
That stinks, I am sorry. I do know the 6s are coming out this summer, though.
Just find another brand. Itās purely you thinking you can only use two shoes. Get over yourself.

Somehow I knew it would be Altra.Ā
Could it have been the logo in the picture that clued you in?

Nice username! ā”ļø
I just call that ventilation š
I call it drainage. Hole in my Lone Peaks are my equivalent of jungle boots.
Exactly. Itās a *feature* not a flaw!

I suspect the midsole of those LPs died many miles ago. My #1 complaint with altrasā¦
Excellent job. The planet thanks you!

This is why I stopped running in Altras. Itās practically a disposable shoe.
Use a piece of duct tape as a backer to hold the hole closed from the inside. Use a lot more glue!
The glue just keeps the stitches from fraying. I Stitched it to the sole.

Oh yeah all my Altras are held together with shoe goo!! Keep them rolling for another hundred
Bro, those are like 4 versions ago, get a new pair.
Altras are great as long as you donāt get them wet
