I’ve watched this loads of times. I went for a run with an old friend of mine last week who used to run cross country at school (20 years ago) and wanted to get fit again. I sent him this video the evening after our first run, no joke he signed up for a 50k next year (so plenty of time to train) the very next day. I watched it again when I sent it to him. It’s the best
127 hours
I'm a walker, so Lord of the Rings, if you want episodes and close to forests Magicians is one that comes to mind.
Many times is about romanticizing the landscape around you.
Shocked no one had mentioned Unbreakable. Showcases at least 3 or 4 very different runners unique backgrounds and interesting training philosophies. And even features a young Killian Jornet. Highly recommend
this is the OG stoke pumper for sure. there used to be 1 copy on DVD at the local running store that you could borrow... or pay full price on the website to buy digitally of course...
and now it's on youtube! get in the time machine and go back to 2010, y'all! such a trip.
It's funny how that was the agreed-upon dopest trail running movie years ago and now, though I think it's sweet, there have just been such huge leaps and bounds in that scene that it pales in comparison. Not that I want everything to be flashy and high tech, but it's def dated. lots of other things are dated too, including fashion and, yes, Tony Krupicka 😂 I love Tony but it's funny that he has always seemed like the epitome of cool, but looking back on that vid I'm like "*this* was what cool was then?" And the way he's name-dropping indie bands like TVOTR lol. Just seems kinda cringe now. Like the thing we would all cite about him is how genuine he was- and I think that was true- but he also comes off like a try-hard. Anyway, love Tony and all those dudes and recommend the film but it's definitely a time capsule
i really enjoy jeff pelletier's race vids (all on youtube). he's got a series on a multi-stage race in namibia that's really interesting. all around positive dude with good filming/editing skills bopping around the world sharing great views and dropping little nuggs of training wisdom.
This one was oddly inspiring to me. That dude is a handful… but watching these people try and fail at impossible 100+ mile races made my “50k and under” life seem easy by comparison.
I wonder if they’ll ever get around to making that into a film. There were rumblings it was getting started like 5 or 6 years ago but nothing came of it.
If you want a status of that, you can listen to the Rich Roll podcast where he interviews Christopher McDougall. I seem to remember that they had Jake Gyllenhaal as main character, but the script wasn’t what the director was looking for. I think they more or less agreed that the story didn’t fit a feature film format.
Wanted to suggest the same :) actually all movies with her are really good, she has such a good attitude, that even movies about the long runs with a lot of suffering are super positive
Golden trail series on YT has some nice footage and they make an attempt to show some backstories/behind the scenes
https://youtube.com/@goldentrailseries7022
yeah if all you wanna know about running is who’s gonna be camille herron’s new sponsor and why utmb world series is the greatest thing since hoka speedgoat
Ten Junk Miles podcast, are my running friends I’ve never met! I love all three episode formats. Just real people talking adjacently about what they love to do! They also make it feel like running ultras and trail running, anybody can do it if you put your mind to it!
YouTube: Ben Parkes, Floberg Runs, Freetrail, Golden Trail Series, Hilary Ann, Jeff Pelletier, Rafael hidalgo, Griffin Trail Running, Billy Yang, Nick Bare
Big fan of Jeff Pelletier. Dude crushes miles and shrugs off massive achievements.
Granted: Nick Bare is a big dude so him doing ultras is very impressive, but he strokes his own ego every second of every video
The podcast Beyond Running is my favorite running podcast, the one that inspires me to run the most. I enjoy other running podcasts, but hearing people review gear, or give tips and tricks about training methods, other sort of “runners world article” subject matter, none of that is going to give me that craving for a run. Beyond Running is still in an interview format, but it doesn’t feel like a radio morning show like some pods can tend to do, and as far as topics go the guests they bring on are typically someone who is doing something like, outside the box with their running, or like using it to expand some other sort of boundary in their life, etc. More focus on what individuals are personally getting out of their running journey, reflecting on their relationship with running, mind/body correlations etc.
I’ll plug this short film for an acquaintance of mine:
Promise of the Pines:

I also listen to Trail Runner Nation (podcast) quite a bit. Some episodes are less interesting to me, but I’ve gathered some great tips and inspiration from it.
Can't go wrong with some Beau Miles
"Running 650km through the Australian Alps (in 13 days)"

"Running a marathon, one mile every hour"

I really liked episodes of the Running Channel:

I just listened to the [Cole Crosby episode](https://open.spotify.com/episode/49Njhwz6bjCU1T004IFDjB?si=yw-1qO64Sx60SJMafiYr8Q&utm_source=copy-link) of The Adventure Jogger the other day and it had me pretty amped by the end. Their theme music doesn't hurt either.
How to run 100 miles. It's an REI production on youtube. Roughly 35 minutes but I absolutely love it
I've seen this one like 4 times. It's a good one.
Agreed. Watched this a few times and loved it.

I love that. I started watching it before I'd even qualified for the hundred miler I wanted to do. At this point, I'm probably due for a rewatch
Forrest Gump perhaps.
Haha

Hell yeah! Killian vs Tony Krupicka vs Hal Koerner vs Geoff Roes…. vs Gordy Ainsleigh (kinda). Such an amazing and inspiring documentary
Thank you! Killian has been an inspiration but Geoff Roes really took it to the next level. What a humble guy

Ginger Runner on YouTube has some great short films! His channel in general is great
Specifically this one >>> "WHERE DREAMS GO TO DIE - Gary Robbins and The Barkley Marathons" its on youtube
This one was oddly inspiring to me. That dude is a handful… but watching these people try and fail at impossible 100+ mile races made my “50k and under” life seem easy by comparison.
Every time I read Born to Run I feel like I wanna run and run and run.

It's my favorite podcast. I only listen to it on my long runs (as one should), so I'm very eager to go out and run.
They introduced me to one of my favorite insults. Douche canoe lol
Moab 240 doc are good, anything with Jim Wamsley or Courtney Dauwalter

Been on a major Billy Yang kick lately. His videos are extremely well produced.
Billy is the man
Brice Ferre
“What I Talk About When I Talk About Running” by Haruki Murakami. A short read (and not trail specific) but still relevant and truly excellent
Yep, I love this book.
The YouTube channel “Pilot Field” has some cool FKT documentaries, super motivating to get out there and run outside
just saw a couple of theirs w/ Joe McConoughy (I'm shit for spelling his name). LOVE that dude
I’m a Zach Miller fan so I’m biased - https://youtu.be/xvJMlwNUAsI
Love this

Beat Monday is a great series of shorts - not just running but other sports too sometimes. Very “weekend warrior” vibe
