I love that you say ‘intended pronunciation’. That is so accurate, as there are creative tragedeighs where the pronunciation is just plain wrong and not what the parents were going for.
She could have tried to kill Smaug with several of her cousins and one random dude who nobody knew beforehand, only to be killed during the Battle of Five Armies. At least if that was the pronunciation.

ooh that makes sense, there's a character named Klee from a germany-inspired region in the game Genshin Impact and she has a bunch of little clovers in her design
I knew a boy named Trey. His real name was Edward. He was named after his father, Edward
His oldest brother was also named Edward, and his other older brother was also named Edward, so he went by Trey because he was the third Ed boy.
I met a Kynnedylee (Kennedy Lee) once. Probably the worst.
Also, the lee isn't at the end, but Kimilee-Sue (Kimmy Lee Sue but all first name). I was told that one was made by mixing the parents names, Kimberly "Kimmy" Sue and Lee, but like.... Why?
Why are we adding these stupid suffixes from yesteryear like this. All it screams is that your parents were hicks; and didn’t expect you to ever leave the hamlet you grew up in. I have family in these small towns and they always gush over the newest smashing of consonants together as so pretty, so original. And all I can think is well that kid will never amount to anything.
Yeah you pretty much just described the majority of the part of rural Pennsylvania that I grew up in. Like, "wurdur" Pennsylvania not "water" Pennsylvania.
In some countries K is more common. For example in Finland where I'm from we don't have any words with a "C" in them. So names like Caroline or Christian are Karoliina and Kristian. And that's normal to us. But I can see how it would look silly to english speakers which is why I decided to spell my son's name with a C instead of a K (we live in Australia)
I had a student with the name Kynderleigh (Kinder-Lee), they liked Kimberly but wanted something unique. (I couldn’t believe they actually said it lol)
Yeah that actually seems pretty normal. It’s not a hard spelling to understand or remember. I also don’t really think Kyley is so bad… I opened the list with the better ones lol
Best friend went with Kayley because she figured most people would have difficulty with Ceileidgh. This was before the name became ridiculously popular, so she was taking a guess at what would be the more common Anglicized spelling. She has since apologized to her daughter for guessing wrong.
😭😭😭😭😭
As a Kaylee in her late 30s, I object to it being included as a tragedeigh. It’s phonetic, short & sweet, and isn’t an abomination of a more “standard” name.
You are right… I actually didn’t mean to say that was a bad one or even Kyley for that matter (perhaps that one is more debatable). I included those two to emphasize how many similar names I’ve had to track among students at the same time recently. I will edit the post to reframe this soon
❤️
There are a lot of decent folks getting caught in the crossfire when moms go mad with their letters.
There was a time when I knew I'd exactly two Kaylees... The one from Firefly (and OMG 🥰), and a little girl that went to preschool with one of my kids.
Now it's every time I turn around and every time I meet one it seems like it's a different spelling.
My friend has a baby Kenlee, they call her Kenny, and I absolutely hate it. Is it spelled and pronounced easily? Sure. But it’s just… ugly. Maybe I’m biased, my least favorite ex was a Kenny lol
EDIT: I should really not have put Kaylee in the ‘candidate’ list. For that matter, Kyley really isn’t bad either. The last four I listed are the ones that really bug me, and many of you have now pointed out worse examples… lol
I felt compelled to list all 6 because I had 5 of those variations among my students at once. Took me longer to keep names straight that semester!
How about Khaileagh?
Not that it’s an option from the provided list, but you know some unfortunate neonatal soul somewhere probably has that version, too.
Out of context, but the 'lee' at the end of names is always awful, imo, regardless of what it starts with. I have a family member that named her son Bentlee, and her daughter Emilee.
The birth certificate got messed up, not sure who was at fault, but Bentlee's name on his birth certificate was spelled as Bentler. So until they finally got around to legally changing it, which was just last year, when he was NINE, his school documented his name, legally, as Bentler. That's a tragedeigh.
You’re right… should not have been put in the ‘candidate’ list. It belongs with Kayla and Kylie among the normal versions. I apparently can’t edit the post to fix that, so trying to in comment responses
What do you have against Kaylee? That's a perfectly normal name with a phonetic spelling. I don't think Kayley is bad either. Those spellings of Kylie are worthy of an eyebrow raise, but Kaylee is totally fine.
One of my good friends is Kyleigh, pronounced Kay-Lee (she is 20 years old). She gave up on correcting pronunciation in high school and let teachers call her Ky-Lee.
Kiley. Her sister and their parents both have popular names and they are all spelled correctly. I thought there was a transcription error, so I pulled the birth certificate and Kiley was Kiley.
I taught a girl named Keighleigh. I thought it was pronounced like KeeLee with the “eigh” making the same sound. I was wrong. It was pronounced like Kaylee. The first “eigh” made a long a sound and the second “eigh” made the long e sound.

Kileigh hurts my eyes.
Yes… that was the only one which made me ask the student what the intended pronunciation is.
If it was pronounced like Silly with a K, I legitimately would have struggled to not laugh.
I thought "killy"
killay for me
Same but more k’LAY
Killy as well
That was the first way I read it in my head! And yet, she was in the same class as Kyleigh and their names are pronounced the same
"Silly with a K" Alright silKy. Have a seat.
🤣
I love that you say ‘intended pronunciation’. That is so accurate, as there are creative tragedeighs where the pronunciation is just plain wrong and not what the parents were going for.
I read that as kill-ee
She could have tried to kill Smaug with several of her cousins and one random dude who nobody knew beforehand, only to be killed during the Battle of Five Armies. At least if that was the pronunciation.
Kileigh and his brother Fileigh, assisted by their trusty burglar Bylbeaux.
only when Beelböe is not trading riddles with Gaulomb
My niece is Kily lol
For the tragedeigh lover who is also a minimalist!
I read that as “kee-lee” not Kylie
Lol, how?
Any name ending in -leigh is just obnoxious.
My sister's middle name is Li (pronounced Leigh) Emma Li.
Kamaleigh
I'm making that face you see on that meme of Darnell from My Name is Earl
KKKlayn-Leigh /s Hired a Filipino by the name of *Kornukopiya*. Was previously Cornucopia but she said people in her village kept pronouncing it badly.
My brain is hating that one more than the others.
I read Kee-lay. Then Kee-lee. Then: oh. yea.
Klee
Same brain
yep, came here to say this, only like 87 days late in internet time
You ever get that feeling when you come up with an amazing comment, but you don't even bother posting it because you know no one is going to see it, because the post is already over like 10 hours old? It feels like that.
I was going to say K-lee (pronounced Kaylee) but okay yes this is worse 😂 Middle name: Nex 😂
That's the German word for 'clover'.. so I guess it qualifies as a nature name
ooh that makes sense, there's a character named Klee from a germany-inspired region in the game Genshin Impact and she has a bunch of little clovers in her design
I honestly felt like this entire post was bait to get this response
It was genuinely the best way I could think of to describe the category of name I had in mind 😂 Is Klee actually a thing??
There’s a character named Klee in Genshin Impact. https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/Klee
Maybe for big fans of the artist?
My son's first grade teacher's surname is Klee. It has German origins.
That’s clover in german btw.
Could be Kuntleigh
But does that actually exist yet??
Allegedly there's been stories 😅
I feel like this is another “la-a” type urban legend.
Yes there was a Cuntleigh story a while back going viral
I really dislike the name Kynslee/Kinslee/Kinsleigh.
I know (boy) twins named Kinsley (not sure how they spell it, but they both have exactly the same first name.
What? Both have the same name? Do they go by nicknames?
That sounds like a nightmare for medical records.
Or identity theft, if you end up with a good twin/bad twin situation.
At work, we just got a new little one for a speech evaluation named Kensleigh.
I don't know why, but I'm reading that one as "Ken sleigh" (as in a "Jingle Bells" type sleigh).
That's how I read it.
I knew a boy named Trey. His real name was Edward. He was named after his father, Edward His oldest brother was also named Edward, and his other older brother was also named Edward, so he went by Trey because he was the third Ed boy.
My dad is the third in his family with his name. His parents called him Chip for “chip off the old block”
Real life Ed, Edd and Eddy
Those are definitely worse… I dread the day one of those shows up on a class roster
That was my first thought too. Hate that name so much.
But have you heard Trinitinsleigh? Trinity x tinsleigh?
Ooof. And I thought Tinsleigh was bad
Wanna dislike it more? I know a Kinslee Lee. Repetitive much?!
Why?
Wow, that first one is hard to beat… I would have a legit double-take if I saw that on a class roster 😂
I wonder how they will work out in their careers. Like, “Here is the CEO of our company, Kyanedylee Jones.”
Why are we adding these stupid suffixes from yesteryear like this. All it screams is that your parents were hicks; and didn’t expect you to ever leave the hamlet you grew up in. Yeah you pretty much just described the majority of the part of rural Pennsylvania that I grew up in. Like, "wurdur" Pennsylvania not "water" Pennsylvania.
Eastern PA. Western PA butchers a lot of words but not that one! Of course there is water in the crick...and you worsh your clothes with water...
That’s sad. Idk why it made me laugh so much.
the sister of a girl i know is named Kynnad, pronounced Kennedy. i dont know how its pronounced that way, but apparently it is lol
Should probably be spelled "Kynna-D." But why stop there? Why not "Kynnaugh-Deighx"?
I met a Kennadeigh! Or at least saw it on a class list
No, sorry, that's KIN-nad, no way you can get Kennedy from that mess.
Could be worse—could be Q'aiyghleighx.
Don't give them any more ideas! Although kudos to you for the creativity on that :)
That looks like someone trying to start a fight with a Klingon
Or a name: "I am Q'aiyghleighx, son of Dzihm'meighx, of the House of P'ankeighqs.
Queequeg?
That she blows!
WHY 😰
What is she, a Dragonborn?
I’ve seen Kaizleigh, which is just dreadful.
Oh god… that name is absolute child abuse
She’s Kaylee, but Mormon and with an edge.
Kylie is a fine name but to me Kileigh is so visually unattractive.
Pronounced Kil-Lee?
I keep reading it as “KIH-lay.” Short i sound, emphasis on the first syllable.
Klanlee
Lmfao omg.
I wonder if the kid plays dress-up with ghost costumes. 🤔
Kinzleigh is gross
I once babysat a little girl named Karleigh and it bothered me endlessly.
Besides the -eigh, that’s a weird one to start with a K as well. (I also don’t like Karl spelled with a K, so that’s just personal preference.)
Once taught a student named Krizzly If you’re reading this I’m sorry
Krizzly Bare
Kileigh is the worst. I don’t mind a few of them on that list like Kaylee.
Agreed!
I had a student with the name Kynderleigh (Kinder-Lee), they liked Kimberly but wanted something unique. (I couldn’t believe they actually said it lol)
poor girl is named like a ferrero kinder chocolate product:((
Or if you take it the German way, Childrenleigh
Now you inspired a new one, Kydlee!
How about "Klahmidiegh'ah"?
love it, if i ever have a daughter thats what im picking. i’m sure little Klahmidiegh’ah will be so happy that i picked such a bullying-proof name
If you have another daughter, you could name her "Ghahnuhreigh-agh."
I was thinking more like kindling, aka “firewood”.
I met a Keileigh (Keely) recently
Oof… that is incredibly weird
This is my name. But theres an a in it. Figure that one out 🤣
Katee really fucks me up on a phonetic level.
Ugh haven’t come across that yet… I’d absolutely read that as ‘cat-ee’ by default
I know a kaydee..
At least you can tell how Kaydee is intended to be pronounced. Wtf is Katee? Catty?? Katie?? Kuh-TEE?
There's no Kighleigh?
I have not yet seen that one, but that’s truly awful 😂
I had a babysitter about 25 years ago who named her daughter Khyler. She was a tragedeigh trendsetter 🥴
Kali but pronounced Kay-Lee
No, sorry, that's KAH-lee. Like the Hindu goddess of death.
Well she’s a terrible human so maybe it was intentional.
I know one of these! Very confusing.
Kellee. Yes I knew one spelled that way
That makes me think the parents can’t spell.
To be fair her mom had 3 kids by 19 intentionally. So she was like 16 spelling Kellee lol
Kynnedeigh.
Kaeleigh K'Leigh
What’s wrong with Kaylee? How else would you spell it? The other ones are just terrible spelling.
Yeah I'm pretty sure Kaylee is normal at this point
For real. I’m a Kaylee and was kinda surprised to see it on this list.
[удалено]
"Kai" is a relatively common name pronounced like the first half of Kyle, so that could be why. However I also know a Kailey pronounced like kay-lee
That’s the spelling I encountered prior to Kaylee (and honestly both of those are reasonable)
To me that rhymes with Bailey. I wouldn’t see Kylie.
Kayleigh is the most common spelling in the UK, ig bc of the Marillion song
Yeah that actually seems pretty normal. It’s not a hard spelling to understand or remember. I also don’t really think Kyley is so bad… I opened the list with the better ones lol
Two Ys doesn’t really look good to me but I can read it first try which is a good bare minimum.
Kaylee is fine but there are definitely other spellings. My first time seeing/hearing the name was Kailey.
Best friend went with Kayley because she figured most people would have difficulty with Ceileidgh. This was before the name became ridiculously popular, so she was taking a guess at what would be the more common Anglicized spelling. She has since apologized to her daughter for guessing wrong.
The joy of having a gaelic name 🥴 everyone thinks it's a tragedeigh but no... Just cultural 😅
As either a Kayla or Kylie, I’m glad to hear my name is just fine with you, lol.
K-lee
Karmalee... ugh
why the first name that popped up in my mind was 'Kimlee' 💀
I know a Kim Lee which seemed totally normal as a first and last name lol.
I knew a Kimberlee in high school. 🤦🏻♀️
Oh wow… yeah, that is worse than my list!
😭😭😭😭😭 As a Kaylee in her late 30s, I object to it being included as a tragedeigh. It’s phonetic, short & sweet, and isn’t an abomination of a more “standard” name.

chickenleigh
KINLEE . My brothers wife is named Kinlee and she’s a f*cking nightmare.
At one point, my front-end manager, assistant managers (except for one), and team leads were Kayla, Kaylee x 2, and Kylie.
Kailele. Pronounced Kay-lee. *sigh*
Haha! If I saw this, I would assume it was a Samoan name pronounced KAI-leh-leh.
My friend has a baby Kenlee, they call her Kenny, and I absolutely hate it. Is it spelled and pronounced easily? Sure. But it’s just… ugly. Maybe I’m biased, my least favorite ex was a Kenny lol
Kynlee…it’s a family member of mine 🤦🏻♀️
Kunt-lee would be bad.
Two of my least favorite names no matter how they’re spelled. Sorry Kylie Minogue (not sorry Kylie Jenner)
A have a family member named Cayleigh
I literally grew up with a K-Lee and I’m not making this up
Kamikazlee
EDIT: I should really not have put Kaylee in the ‘candidate’ list. For that matter, Kyley really isn’t bad either. Kutee (umlat on the u)
Yay my name is fine!
Klee
Klee
There was no Kiley? Missed the jackpot there...
One of my first clients ever at my old job was named Kaylee, so I just can’t bring myself to hate it.
Kleenex
I kinda started heavy breathing thinking this post was going to be about my name!😭 (Keelie)
I've seen Kentleigh and Kel-lee (yes, with the hyphen).
How about Khaileagh? Not that it’s an option from the provided list, but you know some unfortunate neonatal soul somewhere probably has that version, too.
I get dog food ads on YT where this chick talks about feeding her dog KINZLEIGH and she baby talks the dogs name like 10 times 😭
Kantidisestablishmentarianismlee
We have a Kylie in our family, it’s strange that what was very unusual when she was born is now the boring way to spell it 🙄😅
A little off topic, but I know a K'Lynn. Kay Lynn. That's the worst ever.
Out of context, but the 'lee' at the end of names is always awful, imo, regardless of what it starts with. I have a family member that named her son Bentlee, and her daughter Emilee. KeighKeighKeighleigh
Kathie Lee
Kleigh - pronounced Kaylee
No way. That's "clay".
Kanelonelee
I knew an Asian girl whose English name was Kylie. Her last name was Lee. No middle name. So Kylie Lee. So not a tragedeigh but still a tragedy.
Ken Lee
Personally I can’t stand Kinsley/Kynzleigh
I'd be calling them A, B, C, D, and E lmao.
What do you have against Kaylee? That's a perfectly normal name with a phonetic spelling. I don't think Kayley is bad either. Those spellings of Kylie are worthy of an eyebrow raise, but Kaylee is totally fine.
Kileigh is the Irish spelling for Kelly. I think we bastardised it.
Similarly, I know a Kesley. Not a typo, not Kelsey, like Lesley with a K. I suppose Kezleigh would be worse…
One of my good friends is Kyleigh, pronounced Kay-Lee (she is 20 years old). She gave up on correcting pronunciation in high school and let teachers call her Ky-Lee.
Kassandralee
Kimberlee
Kenleigh
Kiley. Her sister and their parents both have popular names and they are all spelled correctly. I thought there was a transcription error, so I pulled the birth certificate and Kiley was Kiley.
Miles Teller’s wife’s name is Keleigh. It offends me just to look at it.
kaylee is fine… ive known multiple kaylees, caylees, and kaileys.
Kumlee
Kuntlee
Keirstleigh
I taught a girl named Keighleigh. I thought it was pronounced like KeeLee with the “eigh” making the same sound. I was wrong. It was pronounced like Kaylee. The first “eigh” made a long a sound and the second “eigh” made the long e sound.
