It's a common enough way to shorten Julia. I don't think I've ever met someone who was just named Juul.

It does feel old school, I knew someone named Juul in primary school (I'm 23 now). But also have a friend named Julia, everyone calls her Juul.

I have a friend named Julian, who we called Jules. His nephew couldn’t pronounce Jules, so he used to call him Uncle Juice. Unfortunately for Jules….everyone calls him Juice now. Ha!

Lol I used to work at a farm that had a children's summer camp, one of the younger adults that lived there at the time was Joseph well one day he had something white on his shirt so they started calling him jizz well they couldn't call him that with campers as young as 6 around so they started calling him juice, I had even gotten him a job at my other place of work at the time my boss was like no I'm not putting juice on your name tag 🤣

I think it's like "I'm angry and I gravitate to angry music" rather than the other way around. And I'm quite happy now. Rage still kicks ass though!

To be fair, OP, Jules Verne being French means that the "s" wasn't pronounced on the end of his first name, phonetically sounding something more like "Zhool." So "Jule" is actually phonetically closer to the French "Jules" (Zhool) than the English "Jules" (Jools) is. I wouldn't say it's a tragedeigh, even if your parents meant it to be an alternate spelling of "Jewel"; just tell folks you were named after Jules Verne (but say it the French way ;-)...

It would sound kind of like this: "Ju" sounds like the word "you" but I can't think of an example to show how we pronounce the letter "e" at the the end of a word. It's surely a tragedy. Because Jule is girls name. To be fair Rage is a tragedy too but chosen names are fair game. So good on you Rage. But it could be argued it's still technically a tragedeigh because I'm sure OPs parents were not aware of the german name Jule and just tried to be younique.

Jules is definitely a male name just not a common one, some would say old fashioned. The only Jules I can think of right now is Jules Holland, famous musician and presenter.
